This God-Awful Immortal Realm [GL] - Chapter 1
Chapter 1: It’s All the Tornado’s Fault
“Ling! Xi! Yao! You guy, you’re always the slowest out of the three of us!”
“Exactly! I’m telling you, if you don’t hurry up, we won’t make the boat departure time we agreed on yesterday! The two of us are leaving first, you take your time packing!”
“Hey! You two…” Ling Xiyao shouted. She threw the handbag in her hand onto the bed, stood with her hands on her hips glaring at the two standing at the door, and said through gritted teeth, “If you dare leave without me, I’m never getting takeout for you guys ever again!”
“Uh…” Hearing this, the two obediently closed the door. One of them added somewhat unwillingly, “Just hurry up. If the boat owner won’t wait for us, what are we going to do?”
Ling Xiyao, a junior at A University. This summer, she used the money she usually saved to go on a trip to Hainan with her two roommates and best friends. Yesterday, they agreed to rent a boat to go out to sea today.
“I know, I know. It’s not that I’m slow, it’s that you two are too fast. Besides,” she raised her wrist and checked her watch, “it’s still early.” Ling Xiyao stuffed a pile of things from the nightstand into her handbag all at once, muttering under her breath. She zipped the bag, ran to the mirror, grabbed a comb and pulled hard at her long hair while continuing to shout at the two at the door, “Hey, you two better not leave without me, I’m almost ready.” She tossed the comb aside. “Okay, okay, let’s go.”
One hour later.
“Wow, it’s so beautiful! This trip was definitely worth it!” The three of them sat on the boat, involuntarily exclaiming in unison. The small boat floated on the blue sea. They looked at the beautiful scenery of the sandy beach on the shore, the waves constantly hitting the reefs, and occasionally passed by several small islands. Those islands were covered with trees, looking like a lush green carpet from a distance, which was pleasing to the eye. Ling Xiyao opened her arms and closed her eyes, welcoming the sea breeze on her face. “Ah—it’s truly beautiful,” she whispered to herself.
She shaded her eyes with her hand, looking into the distance in all directions. Suddenly, she noticed a small island not far from their boat, and an idea popped into her head—an idea that would make her beat her chest in regret a few hours later. So, she pointed to the island, turned back to the other two, and said, “What do you think about going to that island to play and take a look?”
This proposal immediately received unanimous approval from the other two, who were equally fun-loving. “Sure! Actually, I just had that thought too. Let’s tell the boat owner and go up together!”
The three discussed it with the boat owner. Since they had already agreed to rent the boat for the whole day, the owner finally agreed to their request. The boat slowly docked at the edge of the island, and the three of them cheered excitedly and ran onto the land.
Ling Xiyao had always loved various natural landscapes. Now that she was on such an island—one that clearly hadn’t been visited by many people, let alone developed—she was naturally very excited. She wandered around the island, looking left and right; everything around her was novel and dazzling.
Looking here and there, marveling at the beautiful scenery, she unknowingly walked a long distance on the island and became further and further away from the other two. But at this moment, she was still immersed in the beautiful and novel scenery, not realizing that she had reached the other end of the island, completely separated from her companions. Suddenly, a strange sound came from far away. At first, the sound was very small, so it didn’t attract her attention. But the sound gradually became louder and louder, as if something terrifying was slowly approaching the island.
Now Ling Xiyao finally noticed the eerie sound and felt a trace of fear. She looked around, trying to find the source of the noise. Suddenly, she covered her mouth, gasped, and then let out a lung-tearing scream and took off running.
—A TOR! NA!! DO!!!
Ling Xiyao watched in horror as a rapidly rotating pillar of water, connecting the sky and the sea, was slowly approaching the island from the water.
However, this thing was a bit strange; it didn’t look exactly like a typical tornado… If you called it a tornado, the scale seemed a bit too small, like a miniature version of a normal one, or the kind of swirl a skillfully kicked soccer ball might trigger. Even so, she didn’t have time to think much at this moment. Terrified, she ran toward the center of the island while shouting the names of the other two, “Be careful! Get on the boat! Tornado! A tor-tornado is coming! Aaaaah!”
But it was useless; she underestimated the speed of that tornado. Although it looked like it was approaching the island slowly, its forward speed was actually very fast. In just half a minute, the tornado had reached the shore of the island where she was.
After landing on the island, its power seemed to weaken slightly, but it was still rotating rapidly, chasing in Ling Xiyao’s direction. In her panic, she remembered seeing on TV that when an avalanche occurs, you should run sideways, because a person’s running speed can’t keep up with an avalanche. So she quickly turned ninety degrees and ran to her left. But it was useless. No matter what curve she ran in, this tornado weirdly seemed to be chasing her. It didn’t take long to catch up with her, and the powerful suction sucked her into the vortex.
Ling Xiyao felt herself being instantly lifted off the ground by an exceptionally strong force. She screamed in panic, instinctively reaching out her hands to grab the air, trying to catch something around her, but obviously, in a tornado, such efforts were completely futile. Soon, her vision went black, and she fainted.
After an unknown amount of time, Ling Xiyao finally woke up. She shook her head, feeling a bit dizzy, but no part of her body felt particularly painful, just a little sore. She secretly felt lucky that she wasn’t injured in that terrifying tornado. It was soft under her head, probably resting on a pillow. She opened her eyes and found herself lying on a bed in a small room. She looked around and noticed the quilt covering her, the decoration of the bed, and the furnishings of the entire room were all in an ancient style. The room had no windows, only a small door. Although Ling Xiyao had little knowledge of what an ancient room should actually look like, this antique feeling couldn’t be wrong. Recalling being sucked into a tornado and then ending up safely in this bed—a flash of inspiration struck her mind, and she thought of the most cliché, tragic, and embarrassing possibility.
“Ah—Heavens, did I really transmigrate… I don’t want to transmigrate…”
She hurriedly threw off the quilt and sat up, stretched out her hands to look at them, crawled out of bed, grabbed the bronze mirror on the nearby table to look at herself, and checked her clothes. Good, the face was still her face, the body was still her own, it wasn’t a “soul transmigration”; and the clothes were the set she wore on the island, not a single piece missing, except her shoes had been taken off. She glanced at the bedside and found her shoes.
Just as Ling Xiyao was still thinking about what to do next, someone tapped gently on the door. Before she could react, the person had already pushed the door open and entered. Ling Xiyao hurriedly scrambled back under the quilt to hide. She turned her head and saw the newcomer was a young woman. A gold buyao hairpin inlaid with pearls and jade was tucked into her hair; her eyes were like autumn water, her mouth like a cherry, her cheeks rosy, and her skin like congealed fat. She wore a moon-blue plain thin shirt with exquisite lace on the cuffs and a moon-white pleated skirt. As she moved with graceful steps, her thin gauze skirt fluttered gently. She was so beautiful she looked like a fairy who had descended to earth.
“That… excuse me… Sister, may I ask where I am?” Ling Xiyao sat up, clutching the quilt with both hands, speaking cautiously and choosing her words carefully.
“Ancient times,” the woman replied with a gentle smile and a brief answer.
