The World-Weary Kitty Is Transformed Into A Weak And Sickly Beta - Chapter 1
Recently, a major event shook the cat community. The leader, a Tabby cat, bit a human who looked quite formidable. Now, he is being “hunted,” with a massive bounty of cat treats placed on his head.
A group of loyal feline lackeys has no choice but to follow their Big Brother, hiding and scurrying from place to place.
It is quite a loss of face for the cat kingdom.
A crowd of people, leading a Samoyed, is relentlessly chasing a group of cats down the street. The scene is somewhat surreal.
A little British Shorthair, who should have been tucked away at home sleeping comfortably on a heater, lets out a hiss of angry warning at the humans behind them before turning to meow at his leader.
“Meow, meow, meow…” (Big Brother, why are these annoying humans constantly chasing us?)
A Calico cat, charging forward with all her might, adds: “Meow! Meow, meow, meow!!” (That’s right, Big Brother! Everyone just gave them the most delicious, fat mice we caught as gifts! My mouse… Big Brother, I’m so hungry.)
The agile Tabby, Chu Fan, leads his lackeys as they leap across walls and eaves, personally acting as the rearguard. He spins his feline body, jumps lightly, and delivers a fierce kick to that silly dog, the one released to track them, who is currently drooling with excitement.
He is buying time for his younger brothers to escape.
The crowd is busy trying to catch this “culprit” cat who scratched their master. Since the other cats have scattered, they aren’t being pursued.
The head bodyguard bellows: “It’s just a single cat! You can’t outrun it, and you can’t catch it! What does the boss pay you for? If this many people can’t nab it this time, we’re all getting fired! Do you understand?!”
The other bodyguards shout their understanding.
But this cat is too fast.
Slippery as a loach, the cat remains uncaught. Instead, the guards collide with one another, tumbling into a messy heap. Nearby onlookers burst into fits of laughter.
Flushed with embarrassment, the bodyguards look up again only to find the cat gone. Even the boss’s favorite silly dog has vanished!
The guards look deathly pale. One asks desperately: “Brother Li, what do we do? Do we look for the cat or the dog?”
The man called Brother Li kicks him, roaring: “Find both!”
He continues muttering curses: “Damn it, the dog is lost! I said not to bring that idiot dog! The Master insisted his dog was ‘smart, cute, and clever.’ Great. The cat isn’t caught, and the dog is gone. We really are going to be packing our bags this time!”
Fuming, Brother Li splits the team into two to search, secretly vowing that if he finds that dog, he’ll give it a kick to vent his rage.
That troublesome, stupid dog!
Chu Fan, the Tabby, has already reached the gathering spot of his feline brothers. He struts with a composed feline gait: “Meow~” (I’ve knocked them all down!)
However, his brothers seem a bit afraid of him. Could they be intimidated by his heroic display earlier?
Chu Fan continues: “Meow meow meow!” (Don’t be afraid. I’m your leader; I would never hurt you!)
The little cats are shaking like leaves. Chu Fan realizes too late that they aren’t looking at him, they are looking behind him.
Instantly alert, Chu Fan arches his back, spins around, and bares his teeth.
He is met with a giant dog face.
A giant dog face wearing a hateful, punchable grin.
The Cat Leader doesn’t hesitate to swipe at it, but he only ends up pulling out a clawful of white dog fur.
Dog fur…
Chu Fan’s germaphobia suddenly flares up.
Wait? How can there be fur from that stupid dog on my paws?!
The massive Samoyed is chased everywhere by the furious Tabby. Yet, it maintains that unchanging smile.
“Meow meow meow!” (Why do you keep chasing us!) “Woof woof woof!” (Fun! Fun! Do it again!) “Meow meow meow!!” (What is your motive!!) “Woof woof woof!!” (Fun! Fun! Do it again!!)
The Calico steps in to stop her leader, standing between him and the dog: “Meow meow meow!” (Big Brother, ignore it! It doesn’t understand cat language. Let’s go! Those people will catch up soon.)
The Samoyed continues barking. (Don’t go! Come play!)
Chu Fan regrets not giving it a proper lesson. He looks back every three steps, seeing that the dog really isn’t following. Just as he is about to leave, he spots a person in black clothes and a black hat behind the dog. The person looks malicious and sneaky, holding an iron bar, raising it to strike.
Worst of all, the dog is still grinning, barking incessantly.
This dog is too stupid. It’s about to be knocked unconscious, yet it just stands there smiling.
As the coolest cat on the street, the “Little Overlord” of Yunshui Street, and the Leader of Cats, Chu Fan has a responsibility to protect every little life on this street!
Suddenly, Chu Fan turns around. In a few strides, he leaps onto the Samoyed’s head, taking the blow for the silly dog.
A piercing, bone-deep pain spreads from his spine to his limbs.
The Samoyed, finally reacting, grabs Chu Fan by the scruff of the neck and flees, accompanied by the Calico’s heart-wrenching meows.
Swaying and jolting, the cat feels like he’s going to vomit.
A group of kittens surrounds him, meowing frantically.
Chu Fan shows his tiny fangs and says weakly, “Meow…” (Cat is fine. Stop shouting. You’re giving Cat a headache.)
He is a Cat Demon with a thousand years of cultivation. To think he would fall to a mere iron bar.
The chaotic noises gradually fade. Chu Fan feels a hallucination of spinning and leaping, as if he is being rolled up and tossed into the sky.
In a daze, he loses consciousness.
After floating for an unknown amount of time, he wakes up to see several human faces with various expressions.
Chu Fan frowns, enduring the dizziness, and instinctively curls his body in a defensive posture. These humans, however, are very excited, which makes the cat uneasy.
A younger human male turns and shouts excitedly: “Dad! Mom! Xiao Fan is awake!”
Before the cat can figure out the situation, more unfamiliar faces appear before him.
“Xiao Fan, it’s Mom. How are you? Do you feel any better?” “Xiao Fan, it’s Dad. I’ve already taught that bully who picked on you a harsh lesson.”
Chu Fan ponders seriously for a moment.
He understands now. These people are taking advantage of Cat!
Cats are creatures of heaven and earth, they don’t have parents, only owners!
These two people continue to say things he doesn’t understand.
Mrs. Chu (Jiang Yueying) snorts, patting Chu Fan’s back: “That fellow… we hold you in our mouths for fear you’ll melt and in our hands for fear you’ll fall. How dare he push you directly into the water?”
She pokes Chu Fan’s forehead: “It’s truly outrageous. He needs to be taught a lesson, otherwise, he’ll never learn. Honestly, Xiao Fan, why do you like him so much? He’s just a substitute for Wu Qian, is it worth it?”
Chu Fan frowns and dodges, his eyes sharp.
Hold in the mouth?
Does that mean they want to eat Cat? These two people are terrifying, they actually want to eat cats.
Mr. Chu (Chu Huai) glares at the woman: “Jiang Yueying, what are you saying? What substitute? What Wu Qian? Don’t mention that jerk in front of our son. He’s been in a coma for three days and hasn’t visited once, despite how much our son likes him.”
Chu Fan’s head hurts.
What is all this? His eyes remain cold, filled with an uncontrollable animalistic instinct. Chu Fan wants to issue a threatening sound or ask where this is, but before he can speak, what comes out of his throat isn’t a “meow,” but a weird “hehe” croak.
The little cat covers his neck: “O.O”
Jiang Yueying slaps Chu Huai’s shoulder: “What are you doing? You know Xiao Fan has had a fever for three days. He finally got a bit better, and you’re forcing him to talk? What are you plotting!”
Chu Huai thinks, Wasn’t it you who spoke first? But he doesn’t dare talk back, submissively taking the hit from his wife.
The August weather is still sweltering, and thunder rumbles outside. Lightning strikes, as if tearing the sky apart and revealing hidden darkness.
Chu Fan instinctively shrinks back.
He fears thunder most. When it rumbles, the cat’s heart feels as though it’s being squeezed by a giant hand, causing bursts of pain.
In his panic, he suddenly realizes.
The cat… seems to have turned into a human with long arms and legs…
The young man is Chu Cheng, his second brother. He brings over a glass of warm water, resting the rim against Chu Fan’s lips.
His throat is indeed parched. He instinctively sticks out his tongue to lap at the water.
Chu Cheng: “???”
He frowns, leaning in with concern: “Xiao Fan, why are you drinking water like that?”
It’s a bit strange…
Chu Fan freezes, realizing humans and cats drink differently. Before he can speak, someone explains for him.
Mr. Chu Huai, finally finding an outlet for his frustration, sees Chu Cheng’s movements: “Look at you! You don’t know how to care for your brother at all. He has no strength right now. Your posture makes it hard for him to drink. If you can’t do it, let me!”
Chu Cheng quickly adjusts his posture.
The “Little Cat” learns to drink slowly in the human way. The burning sensation in his throat fades.
The man claiming to be his brother busies himself wiping his mouth. Chu Fan’s defensiveness vanishes, and he turns his head away with a flush. He isn’t a kitten, he doesn’t need this kind of care.
Suddenly, someone rushes in frantically: “Mr. Chu, that… that person is about to die. He’s injured and can’t stay out in the rain forever.”
Chu Huai snorts: “Let him learn how formidable we are. Give him a lesson, or he’ll think he can turn the world upside down. Daring to touch our Xiao Fan… he must pay the price.”
A sharp pain stabs Chu Fan’s brain. Fragments of memory flash by.
In his memory, the original “Chu Fan” wasn’t pushed, he slipped and fell into the water himself.
Chu Fan blinks, thinking hard.
The person just said: Harm Xiao Fan, pay the price. But no one harmed him.
The messenger is urgent: “Mr. Chu, please go look. If you don’t, that person will really die.”
Chu Huai: “Better off dead!” Chu Fan: “I’ll go look!”
The two voices ring out almost simultaneously. The messenger looks at Chu Fan, then at Chu Huai, unsure whom to listen to.
Chu Huai is shocked: “Xiao Fan, you can speak again? Quick! Doctor, come here! Check my son again, there must not be a single thing wrong!”
Chu Fan is also shocked that he can speak human language. But now is clearly not the time for that.
That person said the man outside is dying.
He supports himself with both arms, forcing himself out of bed. He needs to see the person he wrongly accused and apologize properly.
It is raining outside. Chu Huai doesn’t want his son to go out. What if he catches a cold, gets another fever, and his condition worsens?
But he can never refuse Chu Fan’s requests, so he can only accompany him. Chu Cheng and Jiang Yueying follow behind.
Chu Cheng whispers to Jiang Yueying: “Mom? Why did Xiao Fan suddenly become so… considerate?”
Jiang Yueying gives him a “just” slap: “Are you saying our Xiao Fan wasn’t considerate before?”
“Look how kind he is. Even though that person pushed him into the water, he still goes out to care for that little jerk, even before he’s fully recovered himself…”
Chu Cheng: “…”
Even though his “filter” for his younger brother was heavy, one shouldn’t lie through their teeth. Given Chu Fan’s past temper, “considerate” was definitely not the word for him.
He sighed and followed his mother.
Chu Fan steps out, his heart racing at the sound of thunder.
But the moment the door opens, he freezes, unable to move for a long time.
It takes a while before he suddenly snaps out of it. Suppressing his erratic breathing and refusing any support, he stumbles toward the person kneeling in the rainy night.
Chu Fan pulls the man into his arms, his fingertips trembling as he wipes away the blood on the man’s face. Blood mixed with rainwater, the man’s clothes are soaked and he looks utterly wretched.
This is his Master. The Master Chu Fan has waited thousands of years for.
On a similar rainy night, the little cat had once found his Master.
He cries out in a breakdown: “Save him!”
His voice is hoarse, but the pain within it is unforgettable.
