- The Woman I Was Flirting With Turned Out To Be A Chaebol Heiress
- Chapter 42 - Mint Chocolate
The plane turned into a night bus; after more than five hours of travel, the two of them finally arrived at the hotel entrance they had booked in advance, close to midnight.
But for Li Nianyi, these few hours of travel didn’t really feel like a “hassle.” When it came to eating, drinking, and having fun, she was full of energy. Whenever she felt tired, she would just snuggle into her beautiful wife’s arms and enjoy her lullaby service it was more like a reward.
This trip was sudden; neither of them had prepared much luggage, only dressing warmly and bringing a few pieces of changeable clothes as light and simple as possible.
At this moment, Otaru was in the middle of the snowy season. The anime style small town buildings, combined with thick snow piled on the roadsides and rooftops, looked so beautiful that it was hard not to stop and admire.
“Why are you so excited?”
In the room, Jiang Ji was packing their luggage while Li Nianyi leaned by the window, watching the scenery outside.
“Is it that obvious?” Li Nianyi touched her own face and found that the corners of her mouth really were lifted into a smile.
“Super obvious.”
“Well, of course, it’s because I’m traveling with you. Aren’t you excited? We might even catch the sunrise here at this hour.”
Maybe the sunrise in Otaru was really beautiful, but compared to sunrises elsewhere, it wasn’t particularly outstanding. The only special thing was the person beside her and the feelings and mood at that moment.
After the little “sunrise drama” ended, the two rested in the hotel all morning. They had a simple lunch at the hotel restaurant, then headed straight to the Otaru Aquarium.
They didn’t even realize when they started holding hands maybe since they left the hotel. Jiang Ji acted as a tour guide. No one knew when she had done her research, but she could talk expertly about those strange-looking sea creatures.
Li Nianyi suddenly remembered the drama she and Jiang Ji had watched a few days ago. The two female leads also had a date in an aquarium, wrapped in a dreamy blue light, hugging and licking each other.
“Do you remember what the name of that yellow little fish was, the one Kotoba and Ai saw in the aquarium in the drama we watched?”
“Pickled radish fish?” Jiang Ji said uncertainly.
“Why do you remember pickled radish?”
“You too!”
So the two of them laughed together. Li Nianyi took out her phone, determined to find the name anyway.
“Ah! Found it. It’s ‘damselfish.’ Let’s keep an eye out. Maybe they have it here too.”
Kissing in an aquarium seemed quite romantic, the fish witnessing their moment of love.
Unfortunately, it was peak tourist season, and there were many people around. Li Nianyi didn’t like public displays of affection with strangers watching.
“Nian Nian, there’s a penguin show later. Let’s go watch, okay?”
Jiang Ji looked at Li Nianyi with sparkling eyes, especially in the dim aquarium lighting, the exhibition lights casting a faint shimmering glow on her skin. Li Nianyi just couldn’t get enough.
“Did you hear what I said? Stop spacing out.”
Jiang Ji shook her sleeve.
“Girlfriend, say that to me a few more times.”
Jiang Ji looked confused. “Don’t I call you that every day?”
“I don’t know, it just suddenly sounds really nice and makes my heart flutter.”
After Li Nianyi said this, Jiang Ji felt shy. “What’s wrong with you today?”
“Why wouldn’t I be happy when my heart flutters?”
Jiang Ji shyly whispered in her ear, “I feel the same when you call me girlfriend.”
Li Nianyi couldn’t help but grin and sneak a kiss on Jiang Ji’s hand.
They watched the penguin show, bought a little dolphin plush as a souvenir, and asked a kind passerby to take pictures of them. Li Nianyi wondered who was stealing her time why did time with Jiang Ji always feel too short?
After the aquarium, the sky was getting dark and snowflakes started drifting down like flying fluff.
“So beautiful,” Li Nianyi sighed. The dusk and snow combined made it hard not to be immersed in the quiet moment.
“Click!”
Hearing the camera sound, Li Nianyi instinctively turned around and saw Jiang Ji’s camera pointed at her. After being caught, Jiang Ji didn’t stop but captured Li Nianyi’s slightly dazed expression.
“Hey! Jiang Ji! You’re getting worse at sneaking photos. Let me see!”
“Not joking, super cute, super adorable!”
Two fluffy heads nestled together under the flying snow, unbothered by the cold.
“Our sister Jiang’s photography skills are as reliable as ever.”
“Caught you off guard, Nian Nian sama. I’m keeping this one.”
Like two fools, they took many goofy photos at university before feeling satisfied.
They visited the Music Box Museum, Stained Glass Art Museum, Otaru Canal, and the famous filming location for the movie Love Letter. Otaru is small and easy to walk through; if they had started earlier, they could have visited even more places.
“Hungry?” Jiang Ji asked.
Li Nianyi nodded vigorously. “Super hungry! We ate too little lunch at the hotel. It’s not as good as your cooking.” She rubbed her belly and complained.
Jiang Ji smiled. “Then how about this place?” She showed Li Nianyi a restaurant on her phone.
“Up to you.”
Jiang Ji chose a conveyor belt sushi restaurant. Compared to the fancy Western restaurants before, Li Nianyi felt more comfortable with this casual, down to earth place.
Although the sushi portions were small, the variety was wide, and the place also served bone broth ramen, so Li Nianyi wasn’t worried about going hungry.
The heating inside the restaurant was good. The hot food warmed her stomach. Even after walking around the city all afternoon, she only felt a little soreness in her legs but no real tiredness.
“Too bad we don’t have more time today. Tomorrow, how about we go to Mount Tengu?”
“Will you shout like Hiroko Watanabe facing the snowy mountain?”
“Huh?” Li Nianyi blinked. “I haven’t thought about that yet, but it sounds fun. Maybe I will if no one’s around.”
“I’ll definitely record a video of it.”
“So you’re just recording my hobbies?”
“Because you’re so cute, I can’t get enough of you.”
“Jiang Ji, you say things like that more and more smoothly now.”
“What’s wrong with that…”
“Nothing, I like it!”
Leaving the sushi restaurant, Li Nianyi lazily hung on Jiang Ji’s arm, happiness almost overflowing.
Something cold fell on Li Nianyi’s nose. She looked up and saw glistening hexagonal snowflakes drifting on the dark canvas above.
The street got quieter, and only the nearby streetlights stood upright in their corner. Li Nianyi suddenly asked in Japanese, “Now… can I kiss you?”
“Huh?” Jiang Ji felt like she had suddenly stepped into a romantic anime or drama, and the heroine was inviting her to kiss.
Before Jiang Ji could react, something was put in her mouth a piece of mint chocolate. After tasting it for a moment, her mouth filled with cool, sweet flavor.
Before she could ask when Li Nianyi had secretly bought the chocolate, her lips were mischievously captured.
Jiang Ji didn’t know how it happened that she was thinking about other things during such a key moment. Despite being kissed breathlessly, she couldn’t help but think about the mint green coat Li Nianyi wore today, with its brown furry collar and pants.
Mint chocolate was basically her in chocolate form.
So she ate it…
Ouch!
Her lower lip suddenly felt a slight sting.
Li Nianyi was punishing her for being distracted.
They finally parted slightly, both still panting softly from the kiss.
“Come on, confess honestly. What were you thinking about? Spacing out so obviously is not respecting other people’s hard work.”
Li Nianyi took the opportunity to sneakily pinch and rub the soft part of Jiang Ji’s cheek.
After her payback, Jiang Ji, blushing, said, “I was thinking… mint chocolate tastes really good!”
Then she gently pecked Li Nianyi’s mouth corner. “We have to eat more when we get back.”
Wait, wait, is that “have to eat” really serious?
Jiang Ji got a playful smack on the head.
“Stop hitting me. I’m not very smart to begin with; if you keep hitting, I’ll get dumber.” Jiang Ji covered her head and complained.
“Rejected!”
Jiang Ji suddenly grabbed Li Nianyi’s hand. “How about this, my dear Nian Nian? I’ll take you somewhere. If you’re happy, you have to reward me with some mint chocolate.”
Her other hand lightly tapped Li Nianyi’s chin in the air.
“Then let’s see if I’ll be happy.”
Jiang Ji’s fingers slipped between Li Nianyi’s, their hands entwined. Wearing matching snow boots, they ran wildly down the street. Luckily, the snow had been cleared; otherwise, they would have tumbled together into the snow.
Li Nianyi never expected the place Jiang Ji took her to was a church.
It was an old church, unattended, empty inside except for the stained glass windows casting dreamy, beautiful light in the night.
“How did you find a place like this?”
Li Nianyi looked around curiously. This place was different from the stained glass art museum they had visited earlier more sacred and rustic.
“Nian Nian.”
“Hm?”
Li Nianyi turned around and saw Jiang Ji holding a square blue velvet box.
Sensing something, a flash of shock appeared in Li Nianyi’s eyes.
“Nian Nian, can we have a wedding here? Just the two of us. Tonight.
