Anyone who follows the inner circles of the Chinese entertainment industry knows that the popular rising starlet, Dong Huaci, and the “ACE” of the number one girl group, Zhong Qing, originally debuted together in the same obscure, struggling group.
At the time of Dong Huaci’s departure from the group, evidence hammered home a shocking truth: they weren’t just “business partners” putting on a show of affection—they had actually been in a real relationship for five years before breaking up. This undoubtedly became a major black mark on their career paths, leading to ridicule and igniting a fire-and-water rivalry between their respective fanbases.
Back then, the two parties also cut all ties on public platforms, refusing to share a stage unless absolutely necessary.
However, to everyone’s surprise, while their “CP fans” were few and far between when they were actually in love—dismissing their interactions as “industrial-grade artificial sweetener”—everything changed after the breakup. Aside from the extreme solo stans, everyone else began frantically digging up old “sugar” (sweet moments), unearthing hidden details, and scouring for any frame of them together, wishing they could tie the two together for business promotions.
Dong Huaci: “…If I had known, I would have broken up sooner; maybe I would have gotten famous earlier”
At an awards ceremony where the two were forced to participate, Dong Huaci—having just accepted the Best Actress award—stepped into thin air in her stilettos. As she tumbled off the steps, she fell right into the arms of Zhong Qing, who was waiting backstage.
Zhong Qing’s manager rushed forward to pull them apart, already calculating how many “water army” accounts (paid commenters) they’d need to hire to explain the situation. However, the manager noticed that when Dong Huaci saw she had crashed into Zhong Qing, her expression was even more terrified than the manager’s.
She recoiled violently, a look of despair on her face, and muttered under her breath: “It’s over… I’m going to have to spend so much money to suppress the negative press.”
Meanwhile, Zhong Qing simply pulled out a white handkerchief and wiped the foundation smudge off her suit jacket, remaining silent with a darkened expression.
That night, shippers suffered mental breakdowns while solo fans engaged in a chaotic war. No one knew that during a night of insomnia, Zhong Qing placed that handkerchief beside her face, trying to catch a lingering trace of that woman’s scent.
To Zhong Qing, Dong Huaci was her youthful first love and “white moonlight,” the wound and obsession of her adulthood, and the ex-girlfriend who remained inextricably entangled with her in the public eye. She was also the destined tribulation of her life.
