The White Moonlight Omega Has Amnesia and Always Tries to Seduce Me - Chapter 8
Pale golden light spilled in through the partly open curtain, leaving a straight golden line on the wooden floor as the room’s only light source.
Qin Huai opened her eyes, her mind blank. Last night’s memories were like a blank page, and the familiar feeling caused a flicker of wariness toward her surroundings. She braced her palms on the bed, intending to sit up. As her waist lifted halfway, a hand quietly wrapped around and tightened on her waistline. A slightly husky voice said, “Sleep a little longer.”
A strange room, a strange person lying next to her, and the faint scent of sandalwood mixed with orange in the air. Every detail was proclaiming what had happened last night.
Qin Huai’s body stiffened. She slowly tilted her neck toward the source of the voice, catching a glimpse in the dim light from outside the window.
The white bedding was soft and fluffy. The person next to her was lying on their side, the blanket only loosely covering them below the collarbone, revealing half a face and a head of messy, evocative long hair. The alpha had a large frame and broad shoulders, and a thin shoulder strap was visible, pressing against the lines behind their collarbone.
Fortunately, they’re still asleep.
This thought slowly surfaced in Qin Huai’s mind. She then carefully lifted her arm, observing the alpha’s reaction out of the corner of her eye, while trying to pull her waist free from the person’s restraint.
Then, the alpha woke up.
Qin Huai: “…”
Her legs were already curled up at the headboard. When she glanced over, her eyes met the alpha’s. The alpha had changed position at some point, propping an elbow on the bed with their chin resting in their palm, now looking at her with a smiling face.
The alpha’s face was the type that easily made people drop their guard. When they smiled, shallow dimples appeared, and the upward tilt of their eyes carried an indescribable pleasure.
However, the more Qin Huai looked, the more familiar the face became. That face overlapped with the pitiful expression the person had worn yesterday after she had finished speaking that sentence. Holding onto a last thread of hope, she tentatively asked, “Why are you here?”
Shen Zhi propped up her chin, the smile in her eyes deepening. Qin Huai’s cautious look was very much like a kitten trying to provoke someone, first gently rubbing with a paw, then observing their reaction with wide, wet eyes.
Shen Zhi’s heart felt as if it was soaked in sugar water, sickly sweet. She suppressed the smile on her face, trying not to appear too happy, and her tone carried a hint of distress and inquiry, “Senior, are you not going to take responsibility for me?”
Qin Huai was still wearing the white sweater from yesterday. Normally, the collar would be neat and meticulous, but now it was bunched up on one side of her neck and loosely slipped down on the other, exposing her shoulder.
She sat on the edge of the bed, hands braced on the side. As soon as Shen Zhi finished speaking, Qin Huai looked down at her clothes, which showed faint creases, and then, tilting her head, she pulled up the fallen collar. She regained her usual composure. “What happened last night?”
Although the status of omegas has risen, it is merely a high wall built up by policies, with an unstable foundation and a precarious structure. The innate alpha desire to possess omegas has not vanished. They revel in conquest, and love to see omegas affected by their pheromones, reduced to mere puppies knowing only heat.
Due to her unique physique, Qin Huai always locked herself in her room during her heat. Last night, some mishap might have temporarily occurred, causing her to run out. She couldn’t imagine what would have happened if she had encountered another alpha.
She wouldn’t be able to sit here now, listening to Shen Zhi’s nonsense.
After pulling up the collar, her clothes were perfectly intact again. Qin Huai folded her knees into a right angle on the bed, and slowly leaned forward, closing the distance.
The room was dark. Qin Huai braced herself, reaching over Shen Zhi’s head to press the switch, and the bedside lamp emitted a soft, dim light.
Shen Zhi watched as the omega’s palm rested next to her ear, the light momentarily blocked by the body in front of her. Qin Huai’s eyelids lifted, showing shallow creases. Her gaze was much more innocent than her posture suggested, but her words were anything but innocent, “Tell me, and I will take good responsibility.”
The omega’s hair ends dangled on Shen Zhi’s chest, causing a slight tickle. Shen Zhi was affected by this subtle provocation, and her throat moved slightly.
She wanted to kiss her.
However, this thought vanished in the next second.
Taking advantage of Shen Zhi’s distracted and relaxed guard, Qin Huai suddenly yanked the blanket off her, exposing the white camisole to the air.
Qin Huai raised one eyebrow and gently tapped Shen Zhi’s nose with her index fingertip, a tender gesture like treating a child. “Little one, lying makes your nose grow long, you know.”
With that, she sat up straight and, paying no attention to Shen Zhi’s reaction, nonchalantly went to the bathroom.
Shen Zhi was left alone on the bed. The alpha pursed her lips, thinking about how Qin Huai had been positioned above her just now. She pulled the thin blanket over her face to hide her expression.
After a quick wash, they both emerged from the room simultaneously. Qin Huai originally planned to return to school first, but Shen Zhi dragged her along, asking her to stay while she checked out. The reason was ridiculous and simple: checking out alone was too embarrassing.
Qin Huai didn’t understand the freshmen’s convoluted reasons. She stood in front of the counter, waiting for Shen Zhi to hand over her ID. She glanced sideways at the wall behind the counter, and the name of the hotel surprised her.
It was the hotel where Lin Qiu had given her a room card and asked to meet her.
Qin Huai frowned, an expression akin to annoyance flashing across her face, and she withdrew her gaze from the wall.
Jiangcheng University started its semester earlier than other schools. Many local omegas and their partners from other schools came over, had dinner, and then spent a sweet night together.
By the time Shen Zhi checked out, three couples had already lined up behind her. Two of the omegas looked at Qin Huai, then whispered to the alpha beside them.
Qin Huai had checked herself in the mirror before leaving, finding nothing amiss. Naturally, she ignored these gazes.
Shen Zhi finished checking out, put away her ID, and turned to her, saying, “Let’s go.”
They walked side by side toward the school gate.
Classes were still an hour away. They passed a breakfast place that had already set up stalls. The owner was busy, and pedestrians were leisurely strolling through the morning market. Shen Zhi glanced at Qin Huai, worried she might be hungry. She estimated the time and asked, “Senior, want to get breakfast?”
Qin Huai was not hungry and wanted to refuse, but remembering the favor she needed to ask of Shen Zhi later, she considered and agreed.
They bought soy milk and youtiao (fried dough sticks) and sat at the entrance of the breakfast shop.
Shen Zhi slowly tore the youtiao and soaked it in the bowl. When she finished tearing one stick, she looked up. Qin Huai hadn’t started eating yet.
She asked, “Don’t you like it?”
“No.” Perhaps Qin Huai also felt strange sitting idly. She picked up the youtiao from the plate and began tearing it, mimicking Shen Zhi’s action.
She usually just grabbed a carton of milk and rushed to the laboratory, rarely having such ample time for breakfast. Thus, her movements for tearing the youtiao were particularly clumsy.
The golden fried youtiao with the white soy milk the soy milk was slightly sweet, which balanced the richness of the fried dough.
Shen Zhi scooped up some pieces and ate them, watching Qin Huai’s clumsy attempts at tearing the youtiao.
The pieces in her bowl were unevenly shaped. Shen Zhi put down her chopsticks and naturally took the remaining half of the youtiao from Qin Huai’s hand. “Let me do it.”
Qin Huai’s fingers were still oily. She quickly wiped them clean with a napkin, then lowered her eyes and remained silent.
“Senior, you have something you want to say, right?” Shen Zhi finished tearing the youtiao and slid the bowl across the table toward the person opposite her, resting her hands on the rim.
This question hit right at Qin Huai’s concern. The hand holding the chopsticks was trembling slightly.
During a heat cycle in her third year, she had been asleep in her room, but woke up lying on the sofa in the living room. At the time, she thought she had misremembered and didn’t take it seriously. It wasn’t until the same problem occurred several times during her heat that she went to the hospital for an examination. The doctor had looked at the structure of her scent gland on the computer screen and said that her gland wasn’t as complete as other omegas’, possibly due to health issues of both parents before conception, or incomplete fetal development in the womb. There were many theories, but no definite conclusion.
Usually, Qin Huai would take leave during her heat, lock the door, and stay obediently in her room. Perhaps because she maintained a slight wariness toward the outside world even after her heat began, the phenomenon of running out had never occurred.
But last night was different. Qin Huai was unsure what exactly happened, how she ended up finding Shen Zhi, and how she went back with Shen Zhi. All these questions were confusing.
She had to consider the issue of her next heat cycle.
“It’s nothing.” Qin Huai held the thicker end of the chopsticks, dipping the thinner end into the bowl. She tried to appear nonchalant, and before lowering her head to drink the soy milk, she forced out a sentence, “It’s just that, I want to add you on WeChat.”
Shen Zhi: “What are you talking about?”
Qin Huai’s mouth was full of youtiao, and her cheeks were puffed out as she repeated herself.
Shen Zhi suddenly found her meal less appetizing. She placed her chopsticks horizontally on the bowl and began to tease the kitten in a serious manner, “But you said we wouldn’t cross paths.”
Qin Huai self-deprecatingly blamed herself: “I was blind.”
Shen Zhi watched the omega racking her brains, even to the point of slandering herself. She calmly took out her phone, displayed the QR code, and adopted a thoughtful expression. “Go ahead and add me.”
Shen Zhi saw Qin Huai to the door of her dorm before rushing off to class. Qin Huai arrived at school earlier than other students, so she had a lot of free time. Her research report from the last semester’s end had already been submitted to her advisor; there were no major issues, only a few experimental data points that were not precise enough.
After returning to her dorm, she changed into a thick, fleece lined hoodie. Before heading to the teaching building to see her advisor, she followed her usual habit and took an inhibitor patch from her drawer to place on her scent gland.
Qin Huai’s research focus was on omega pheromones. This field is quite broad, but her goal was very clear: to develop a more effective inhibitor than what was currently available on the market.
Her advisor’s office was in the lab building. Qin Huai took her laptop and the physical report, and went straight to knock on the door.
Upon meeting, she politely greeted her advisor a few times before getting to the main point.
The advisor pointed out areas for improvement concerning the few data points and conclusions. Qin Huai humbly accepted, intending to rerun the data during the free time she had now.
With the academic matters resolved, the advisor shed her stern facade and returned to the gentle manner typical of an omega, asking Qin Huai, “How was your time at home? Is Professor Qin doing well?”
The Professor Qin the advisor mentioned was none other than Qin Huai’s father, an alpha named Qin Zhijing, who also taught at Jiangcheng University, with a research focus on pheromones.
The air conditioning was on in the office, and the heating worked well, but the room was a bit dry. Qin Huai sat beside the advisor’s desk, tidying up the few report pages with notes and drawings. Her fingertip rested on the thin paper. As soon as the advisor spoke, her finger accidentally pressed down, leaving a small crease on the otherwise smooth paper.
Qin Huai lowered her eyelids, revealing no discernible emotion. The advisor continued without noticing, “Your father recently published another paper, which has been well received in the industry. You should discuss it with him when you have time; he can probably offer many suggestions.”
“Is that so?” The office was very quiet, with only the whirring of the warm air. Qin Huai curled the corner of her mouth ever so slightly, a ripple appearing on her usually masked face.
It carried a hint of self-mockery and a touch of sarcasm.
The expression was fleeting, so quick that even the advisor didn’t notice. She quickly reverted to her usual calm self. “I understand.”
After leaving the office, Qin Huai couldn’t be bothered to go back to her dorm and decided to go straight to the lab to work on the data.
Cold instruments lay on the lab bench. Several different colored glass containers were on the shelves. The empty laboratory was impeccably clean, without a speck of dust excessively tidy.
Qin Huai wore a white lab coat over her hoodie, put on goggles and gloves, and sat upright on the stool. The omega’s eyes were dark, showing no emotion, only the thin lenses of her goggles reflecting a cold chill, like the freezing wind howling during a winter night’s snow.
She was holding a dropper, letting the liquid inside drip into a beaker.
A tiny drop of pale blue liquid fell, stirring small ripples.
Qin Huai suddenly remembered her small bear was that same color. Fragmented memories unsuitably drifted from the deepest part of her mind.
In a cramped, dark room, a little girl sat on a cardboard box in the storage room, hugging a blue teddy bear and crying hysterically. Meanwhile, the TV outside the storage room was playing an entertainment show. The omega watching the show was around fifty years old, dressed plainly, sitting on the sofa, eating an orange, and laughing heartily.
