The White Moonlight Omega Has Amnesia and Always Tries to Seduce Me - Chapter 5
The place for collecting the textbooks was in a room in the library basement. Four or five desks were lined up to form a long table. Underneath the desks were several stacks of thick textbooks, securely bound with white nylon ropes wrapped around the middle.
Outside the room was a long corridor. The overhead lights were not on, making the environment appear even darker and damper.
The sound of messy footsteps grew louder. The library was inherently quiet, and any slight movement would be infinitely amplified.
“Later, I’ll check the textbooks the first time, and your class monitor will check the second time. We must ensure the quantity is correct.”
“Okay. Approximately how long will that take?”
“If it’s fast, about twenty minutes, if it’s slow, over half an hour.”
The teacher distributing the textbooks was a female omega. She had been busy since around one o’clock and was so tired she could barely straighten her back. Yet, the alpha student following her, thinking himself enthusiastic, kept asking questions, which made the teacher somewhat impatient and caused her to quicken her pace.
As she pushed the room door open, right in the center of the room, the alpha and omega finishing up from the pheromone major had not yet left. The two were in a close embrace from behind, they looked like they were tightly hugging.
The omega teacher had a slight headache. She had been busy all day, and now she had to endure a display of affection from a young couple, which she couldn’t tolerate. Her hand was on the doorknob, and she turned her gaze away, “Do I need to find a room specifically for the two of you to neck for a while?”
The alphas following the teacher burst into laughter.
Qin Huai quickly turned around and took a small step to the side, exposing Shen Zhi, who was holding the books, to the crowd. She explained, “The books just fell.”
The omega teacher chuckled, not knowing whether she believed it or not. She pushed the crack of the door wider and walked in first.
Those who entered were all alphas. Although they were younger students, they were all very familiar with Qin Huai’s name. Coupled with the gossip of the day, their eyes were filled with exploratory light as they passed by Qin Huai.
But Qin Huai did not notice any of this.
She was frowning, her mind replaying the feeling she had when she approached Shen Zhi moments ago.
The alpha’s body was broad, and the muscles were firm. She could feel the smooth, straight lines of her arm even through the clothing. When close to the alpha, there was only the smell of shampoo, and a faint scent of body wash mixed with the clothes.
There was absolutely no pheromone scent that other alphas would emit.
Yet, even without the pheromone scent, Qin Huai felt that when she was near Shen Zhi, her entire body’s muscles were both relaxed and tense, like a water-filled balloon. When pricked with a needle, the clear water would slowly drop, silent and peaceful.
This feeling was very unfamiliar, suddenly reminding Qin Huai of the abnormality her body experienced during every heat period.
Qin Huai was spacing out while waiting for the alphas to pass. Halfway through her daze, she felt a poke on her back. She suddenly snapped back, her eyes regaining their usual calmness, and met the gaze of the alpha at the end of the line.
Enemies on a narrow road.
These four words were Qin Huai’s first thought.
Lin Qiu had changed into a new set of clothes. Underneath her gentle features, her eyes were wide, containing not just shock but also a hint of anger.
That look gave Qin Huai a strange illusion.
As if she were the one who had cheated.
The line quickly passed by Qin Huai, clearing a large path. Inside the room, the tap sound of textbooks being placed on the desk resumed. Shen Zhi walked to Qin Huai’s side, slightly bent her calf, and nudged Qin Huai’s shoulder blade with her own, asking, “Still hung up on an old flame?”
Shen Zhi asked casually, as if just making a passing joke, but the nail bed against the bottom of the textbook was turning red from the force she was exerting.
The movement was very slight.
But the sensation Qin Huai had felt moments ago had not yet faded, and the instigator touching her again made that part of her bone feel numb.
Qin Huai frowned, subconsciously taking a small step forward. Then, as if remembering something, she said in a light tone, “Let’s go.”
She didn’t turn her head to look at Shen Zhi.
Because if she had looked, she would have noticed that the smile had been wiped from Shen Zhi’s usually nonchalant face, and her dark pupils showed no other emotion.
Outside the library, a few clouds hung in the sky, which looked as if it had been washed clean by water, pure white as snow. The distribution of textbooks was not yet finished, and a long queue still lined up outside. Five or six alphas were gathered together, chatting and laughing.
After leaving the library, Qin Huai showed no intention of speaking, and her steps toward the teaching building were swift and unhesitating.
Shen Zhi followed to her right rear, maintaining a distance of one small step neither far nor near her eyes fixed on the omega’s back, her gaze deep.
The question she had asked inside the library was not just to probe the current relationship between Qin Huai and Lin Qiu, but more importantly, to know Qin Huai’s current attitude towards Lin Qiu.
This was very important.
If the omega answered forthrightly, admitting frankly that they had broken up or not, she could, in one scenario, comfort the other party and take advantage of the vulnerability, or, in another, tell the other party the full story of the video incident to let her see Lin Qiu’s true nature.
In any case, reconciliation was impossible.
She had endured from her senior year of high school until her first year of university, watching those two come and go together. Envy, jealousy, and all sorts of emotions constantly tormented her. Even during the most unbearable rut, she could only force herself to endure by clutching the phantom image of the omega.
She had finally waited for her to break up, finally had the chance to get close to her, so how could she let go a second time?
Shen Zhi’s gaze shifted from the omega’s back to her jawline.
The omega’s skin was very fair, a kind of unhealthy paleness that came from lack of sun exposure. She was wearing a dark black cotton coat, which made the skin just below her earlobe appear to have a sickly fragility.
That shade of color stung Shen Zhi’s eyes, making them turn white. She narrowed her eyes and intentionally lagged a few steps behind, “Senior, wait for me.”
The outermost part of the teaching building was a stone staircase, not very high, just a gentle slope. A step up from the staircase, an animal-shaped fountain stood on the right side of the teaching building. Due to the passage of time, the blue paint on the fountain’s exterior had faded, the water in the circular pool was dirty, and the white tiled exterior was discolored.
Qin Huai put both hands in her pockets, turned back, looked at the alpha at the bottom of the stairs, frowned involuntarily, and urged her, “Hurry up.”
When the omega urged someone, her eyes were lowered, her gaze fixed on the alpha, and her expression was slightly annoyed.
Shen Zhi curved her lips, quickly walked to Qin Huai’s side, her eyes holding a shallow smile, “Thank you for waiting for me, Senior. You’re so kind.”
When the alpha spoke, her voice rose at the end, and a dimple near her cheek was faintly visible, conveying an indescribable joy.
Qin Huai glanced sideways, her heart slightly shaken. Her frown deepened, but she finally explained, “I wasn’t deliberately waiting for you.”
Shen Zhi: “?”
Qin Huai: “It’s just that if you’re too late, the books can’t be distributed.”
This was another way of saying: don’t flatter yourself.
Shen Zhi stopped in her tracks. The dimple that had just faintly appeared completely vanished. Her mouth pulled downwards, and her voice was a little low, “Senior, are you unhappy with me? Is it because of that incident?”
Although Qin Huai wanted to distance herself from the person in the video, what was done was done. Shen Zhi was bound to spend a semester with her, and she wasn’t foolish enough to show her displeasure on her face.
Receiving no response, the alpha hunched her back, her voice getting lower and lower, “Last night, Lin Qiu suddenly rushed over and started confessing without saying a word. I couldn’t even stop her. It scared me.”
This was content outside of the video, which Qin Huai had not seen.
Shen Zhi: “Senior, was she like that when she confessed to you? She doesn’t even look at the time or place, like she has a ‘confession superiority complex’.”
Shen Zhi talked non-stop, from her inability to accept the alpha’s confession, to how the alpha seemed crazy, launching into a torrent of words the moment she saw her. Her language was fluent and required no organization, her attitude was sincere and needed no rehearsal. She concluded the last sentence by summarizing: she thought she was a romantic hero, but was actually just an idiot.
Entering the teaching building’s elevator lobby, Shen Zhi finally quieted down. While waiting for the elevator, she finally seemed to remember something and asked cautiously, “Senior, will you be unhappy if I talk about that alpha like this?”
The elevator doors opened, and three omegas walking together came out.
Qin Huai entered first, standing next to the button panel. After Shen Zhi came in, she pressed the corresponding floor.
The elevator slowly ascended, making a soft sound.
Qin Huai stood in front of Shen Zhi. She had been silent the whole way, but finally spoke, “We’ve already broken up.”
Though the seven short words were individually familiar to Shen Zhi, together they struck her, leaving her dazed.
“So you don’t need to mention her to me.” The button light went out, and the elevator door slowly opened.
Qin Huai dropped her final sentence and walked out without waiting for Shen Zhi.
Shen Zhi deliberately slowed down while holding the books. The classroom corridor was tiled with white ceramic, now so clean it seemed to reflect a person’s image.
The alpha lowered her neck, her shoulders trembling slightly. Her footsteps were quick, and the white tiles reflected her barely contained laughter.
Only when she reached the classroom doorway did Shen Zhi close her mouth. She put on a deep but slightly self-reproachful expression, bent over, placed the books on the podium, and then stood by the lectern, awaiting instructions.
Although Qin Huai had no prior experience in management, her mind was clear, and her arrangements were systematic. After ensuring everyone had their books, she asked the students who had collected theirs to leave first. There were still a few sets remaining for students who hadn’t come. She then asked the class monitor of Class Four, who was closest to her, to put the remaining books back in the counselor’s office.
The Class Four monitor was an alpha, with strong, muscular build, so he naturally had no objections. However, just as his hand reached for the books, his arm was grabbed from the side.
He was still bent over, and his eyes followed the hand on his arm to the person who grabbed him, asking, “Is something wrong?”
Shen Zhi shook her head, pointed to the few sets of books with her finger, and said, “I’ll move them. Your arm looks a bit shaky.”
“No need,” the Class Four monitor refused without thinking, a carefree smile on his face, “These aren’t heavy.”
Shen Zhi: “They’re not heavy, but I remember the sports meet is next month. Didn’t you sign up for the shot put?”
Class Four monitor: “It’s fine, there’s still a month.”
Shen Zhi’s gaze went past the alpha’s body, and she turned her neck to look at the omega who was picking up the craft paper.
Distributing books was physically demanding work. Qin Huai had taken off her coat halfway through, leaving only a white sweater. The craft paper bags were strewn everywhere. Qin Huai, afraid of noise, had asked people to leave first, leaving only herself to clean up the mess on the floor. The white sweater was soft and comfortable, melting away the chill from her body. As she bent over to pick up the paper scraps, one hand held the collar at her chest, revealing only a sliver of her lean collarbone in the cold air.
Shen Zhi took one look, and her earlobes felt hot as if they were flushed with blood.
She couldn’t be bothered to politely dismiss this alpha and grabbed his wrist, sending him outside, “Shot put is so heavy; you need to rest up early. I’ll do this for you, no need to thank me.”
With that, the Class Four monitor was shut outside the door by Shen Zhi.
Only Shen Zhi and Qin Huai were left in the empty classroom. Just as Qin Huai finished picking up the last piece of debris, she had heard Shen Zhi’s entire unsolicited offer of help. She stood at the back of the classroom and instructed, “Remember to put the books back. I’ll be leaving now.”
There was another door at the back of the classroom, and Qin Huai’s cotton coat was on a desk in the back row.
Her hand rested on the doorknob, and a crisp breeze slipped in through the crack, causing the front of her sweater to cling to her body.
Shen Zhi stood on the other side of the classroom, looking at Qin Huai across the entire distance of the room.
“Wait a minute, Senior.” The omega’s back in her memory overlapped with the one in front of her. She blinked, driving away the mist in her eyes. The corners of her mouth curved slightly, and a faint dimple appeared on her cheek. After two years, she finally spoke the words she had organized and suppressed in her heart for so long. With her earlobes turning a deep, almost bloody red, Shen Zhi asked, “Senior, would you mind giving me your contact information?”
