The White Moonlight is So Scheming - Chapter 7
Hearing the sound of her throwing her phone, Shen Tinghan glanced at the time unhurriedly and said, “It’s the change of seasons, time for some new clothes. At this hour, Sa should already be waiting for you downstairs. I had her bring the latest collection in your size.”
Fingertips gripping the sheets tightly, Shen Juexia, who had burrowed under the blankets, gritted her teeth and let out a cold snort, still refusing to emerge.
After a pause, Shen Tinghan added leisurely, “The secretary has booked a flight for next Friday. On the day I return, I’ll bring your gift with me.”
Though she hadn’t shown her face, Shen Juexia had been listening intently the whole time. Only when she heard Shen Tinghan say she’d be back next week did she finally break into a smile. “Then I’ll pick you up at the airport!”
“Okay.”
“And besides clothes I want new jewelry too!” Shen Juexia counted on her fingers, bargaining from under the covers, her voice muffled.
“There’s an auction next Saturday. I’ll have Secretary Zhang send you the catalog later.” A faint smile tugged at Shen Tinghan’s lips as she smoothly offered an out. “Staying under the blankets too long will make you dumb, Xiao Xia. It’d be a shame for someone as smart as you to turn foolish.”
Slowly crawling out from under the blankets, Shen Juexia picked up her phone, revealing only her small, palm-sized face. “Aren’t you mad at me?”
“Mad about what?”
“That I’m not going to school.” After saying this, Shen Juexia lowered her head, not daring to meet Shen Tinghan’s eyes.
“Do you really dislike school that much?” Removing her glasses and setting them on the nightstand, Shen Tinghan asked calmly.
“What if I really, really don’t like it?” Shen Juexia timidly lifted her gaze, her eyes hopeful yet fearful of hearing an answer she didn’t want.
“Then don’t go.” Perhaps due to staying up late, Shen Tinghan’s voice carried a slight rasp. “If you don’t want to go to school, we
can hire a tutor. But if Xiao Xia truly hates studying, then it’s fine not to.”
“Why aren’t you scolding me?” Clenching her fists, her eyes reddening, Shen Juexia’s heart twisted into knots.
A flicker of confusion passed through Shen Tinghan’s eyes.
After a quiet moment, she spoke gently, “What I love is Shen Juexia not an obedient Shen Juexia, nor one who likes school.”
The Shen family already had one boring person. That was enough.
Xiao Xia…
Only needed to do what she wanted.
“If I’m this spoiled, will there come a day when you suddenly stop liking me?” Biting her lip, Shen Juexia’s voice trembled slightly.
What she really wanted to ask was—
If I weren’t your sister anymore, would you still love me?
But how could she ever voice that?
Her expression turning serious, Shen Tinghan took a sip of warm water and gazed patiently at Shen Juexia on the screen. “Did I do
something to make Xiao Xia think I don’t love you anymore?”
Lately, Xiao Xia had become unusually insecure—not just now, but also during that late-night call last time.
Shaking her head lightly, Shen Juexia turned her face away and whispered, “I just wanted to hear it a few more times. How much do you love me?”
“I love you. So much.” Her fingers gripping the phone turned white from the force as Shen Tinghan answered without hesitation. Yet, beneath her gaze lingered an inscrutable shadow.
“So, my sister really likes me that much~ That puts Xia’s mind at ease!” Rolling over to sit up on the bed, Shen Juexia grinned and blew a kiss toward the screen.
Before Shen Tinghan could respond, she hastily slipped on her shoes. “Alright, I won’t chat with you anymore, sis. I need to hurry downstairs to try on my new clothes!”
Then, she ended the video call.
The moment the phone screen turned completely black, the smile on Shen Juexia’s face vanished without a trace.
…
Her slender arm rested casually on the white wooden railing as Shen Juexia stood on the second floor, looking down at the two store clerks in matching uniforms waiting for her on the first floor.
New arrivals that others might struggle to buy in-store were personally delivered to her home for her to pick and choose as she pleased.
Shen Juexia understood perfectly well. The privileges she enjoyed now weren’t because of her charm or who she was. The reason she could live so freely and indulgently was simply that she was the daughter of the Shen family.
The most beloved younger sister of the current CEO of Shen Corporation.
“Second Miss!” Xu Qing, who had just brought out a fruit platter from the kitchen, looked up and spotted Shen Juexia.
Half an hour ago, the eldest miss had texted her, telling her to prepare the second miss’s favorite fruits and that she would come out of her room soon. Xu Qing hadn’t believed it.
But as expected, the eldest miss was always right!
She had been discovered so quickly.
Blinking her almond-shaped eyes, Shen Juexia tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear and leisurely descended the stairs. “When did you two arrive? No one even told me.”
The two sales associates in the living room exchanged glances before answering in unison, “We just got here, Miss Shen. You came out right after.”
Shen Juexia nodded and sat down in the center of the sofa, extending her hand. “Did you bring the catalog? Besides what you’ve brought today, I’d like to see more styles. I want to pick a few outfits for my sister.”
With practiced ease, one of the sales associates pulled out the latest fashion magazine from her bag and handed it to Shen Juexia
with both hands. “Miss Shen, all the new arrivals for this season are inside.”
A single visit to the Shen household could cover two months of her sales quota.
Hehe, she had to keep this little money god happy~
“Great, thanks.” Taking the magazine, Shen Juexia began flipping through it carefully.
Her gaze lingered on a white suit.
The front design was simple and elegant, but the back was completely sheer.
She wanted to see how her sister would look wearing it.
Her fingers twitched slightly as she tapped the suit. “You should have my sister’s measurements on file, right?”
“Yes, of course!” The sales associate quickly nodded, jotting down the selected style.
“Mhm.” Pressing her lips together, Shen Juexia pointed to another page with blouses. “For this page, everything except this one. I want all the others.”
“Understood!” The sales associate beamed.
To her, Shen Juexia’s sweet, soft voice sounded like a real-time payment notification.
The shifting light played with the clouds outside.
The afternoon passed slowly to the rustling sound of flipping magazine pages.
With a lighthearted expression, Shen Juexia closed the magazine, picked up a small bowl of blueberries, and leaned back lazily against the plush sofa. “That’s all for now. Thanks for your hard work today~”
“Not hard at all. It’s our honor to serve Miss Shen.” This wasn’t empty flattery, the salesperson genuinely meant it.
How could serving a customer like Shen Juexia, who spent lavishly and made few demands, ever be difficult? She wished she had eight hundred clients just like her.
No one dislikes hearing compliments. Shen Juexia curled her lips slightly and casually remarked, “Well then if the Shen family needs anything in the future, I’ll have the two of you handle it.”
The salesperson, who had been packing up, immediately lit up at these words.
She fought back the urge to rush forward and kiss Shen Juexia, nodding vigorously instead. “Absolutely!”
Who could understand? A single visit like this meant commissions worth tens of thousands!
It was practically like gaining a long-term meal ticket!
Not only was the salesperson thrilled, but the sheer exhilaration of unrestrained spending also allowed Shen Juexia to momentarily
forget the Sword of Damocles hanging over her head.
Gazing at the exorbitantly priced haute couture dress before her, Shen Juexia grew even more resolute in her goal. She absolutely refused to let herself become penniless.
Paper can’t wrap fire, and avoidance would never solve the problem.
To secure a lifetime of comfort, she had to steel herself and get along with Ji Zhijie. Only by fostering a good relationship
before the truth came to light could she have a sliver of hope.
Hmm, but at this hour…
Shen Juexia glanced up at the wall clock, 5:30 PM. Classes would be ending soon.
Suddenly, inspiration struck.
She picked up her phone from beside her, opened the class group chat, tapped on Ji Zhijie’s profile picture, and sent a friend
request.
“Zhijie~ I’ve been sick these past couple of days and couldn’t make it to school. Could you send me photos of your notes? QwQ!”
After sending the request, Shen Juexia got up and walked to the kitchen doorway. Peeking through the glass door with just half of
her fluffy head visible, she called out to Aunt Xu and Mama Liu, who were busy inside. “Aunt Xu, I want yam and pork ribs for
dinner!”
“Coming right up!” Seeing Shen Juexia regain her spirits, Aunt Xu finally felt the weight in her heart lift.
Late spring evening.
The heat of the day gradually faded, replaced by the coolness unique to nighttime. A gentle breeze rustled the treetops, causing
the emerald-green leaves to sway softly, whispering faintly.
As the sun set, Shen Juexia, now full, set down her chopsticks. Rubbing her slightly rounded stomach, she said with lingering
satisfaction, “Mama Liu’s cooking seems to have improved again.”
“As long as the young miss enjoys it!” Mama Liu wiped her hands on her apron and smiled shyly.
Like Xu Qing, she was one of the old staff brought over from the family estate when the sisters moved into their new home.
Glancing at the twilight outside the window, Shen Juexia checked her phone. When she saw the time displayed on the screen, she
blinked in confusion, then frowned in displeasure.
Classes had ended long ago. Why hadn’t Ji Zhijie accepted her friend request yet?
Ji Zhijie had seen Shen Juexia’s friend request.
Her profile picture was a little rabbit holding a knife; cute yet audacious.
But she had no intention of accepting it.
Turning off her phone screen, Ji Zhijie lowered her head and continued eating, as if this were nothing more than a trivial
interruption.
Confident Shen Juexia had never even considered this possibility in her mind: “Ji Zhijie saw her friend request but chose not to
accept it.”
To her, if Ji Zhijie hadn’t accepted the request, there could only be one explanation she hadn’t seen it.
Since she hadn’t seen it, there was no point in worrying himself sick.
After organizing her thoughts, Shen Juexia wriggled into a more comfortable position on the sofa. Hugging her tub of ice cream, she
turned to Xu Qing and instructed, “Auntie Xu, I want to watch a movie. Could you turn off all the lights in the living room?”
The movie was fantastic, and the ice cream was delicious.
As for Ji Zhijie? Shen Juexia had already forgotten all about her.
Before 7:30, Ji Zhijie had already finished all the homework assigned by her teacher. While tidying her desk, her gaze lingered
momentarily on the phone in the corner.
The friend request hadn’t been approved.
She must be throwing another tantrum, right?
