- The Wealthy Old Man Carried a Child After His Divorce
- Chapter 5 - He Actually Installed a Tracking Chip!
It was nearly ten o’clock that night when Bai Yifeng woke up, roused by a persistent beeping sound.
Nestled in the soft, dry blankets, he did not want to move an inch. The discomfort in his body seemed to have been tended to by someone, making him feel much better than before. There was a strange, bitter aftertaste in his mouth. Bai Yifeng pursed his lips and ran his tongue along the inside of his cheek.
It was the taste of medicine.
“Brother Feng? Are you awake? If you are, come and eat something.”
“Brother Feng, Brother Feng, I warmed up some food for you.”
“Brother Feng,” the voice continued.
Faint whispers reached his ears. Bai Yifeng frowned slightly and opened one eye, only to see Fang Xu leaning over his wrist, which was exposed outside the blanket, and pressing several kisses against it.
Fang Xu felt the hand beneath his lips twitch. He snapped his head up to look at the Beta. “Brother Feng, you are finally awake!”
“What did you give me to eat?” Bai Yifeng’s mouth remained bitter. Fang Xu propped himself up on the edge of the bed and carefully observed his reaction. Upon hearing the question, he hurried to answer. “It was fever medicine. I have no practical experience, and I ended up giving you a fever. I am sorry.”
Bai Yifeng was speechless. Should he say nothing, or should he say it was fine?
“Give me some water.” As soon as the words left his mouth, a glass of warm water appeared by his hand. The temperature was perfect. Bai Yifeng drank more than half the glass before his throat felt a bit better. “How long was I asleep?”
“Only a few hours.” Fang Xu took the glass from him, placed it on the nightstand, and held Bai Yifeng’s shoulders to help him lie back down. “I will go get you some food. Eat a little before you sleep again.”
Before Bai Yifeng could even agree, Fang Xu had rushed out. Seconds later, he returned with warm rice porridge and refreshing side dishes. Holding the tray in one hand, he unfolded the bedside table with the other and set the meal before him. “You cannot eat anything too oily while you are sick, so I have to trouble you with something light. However, I added seaweed and shredded meat to the porridge. Try some.”
His movements were so swift that Bai Yifeng had no time to react. He picked up the spoon, took a bite, and said, “It tastes good. Thank you.”
Fang Xu was about to speak when the smart-brain bracelet on his wrist began to beep. This was the same sound Bai Yifeng had heard in his dreams. He looked toward the source of the noise, but Fang Xu hid his wrist behind his back. “Brother Feng, hurry and eat.”
“Your smart-brain is ringing,” Bai Yifeng reminded him. “Is it something urgent?”
Fang Xu sighed and pulled the device from behind his back. He pressed the virtual button to decline the call and said softly, “It is a pre-notification for deployment. I have to return to the military for a mission tonight.”
“Go then. Do not be late,” Bai Yifeng urged, knowing Fang Xu was a soldier protecting the country. “Be careful on the way.”
Fang Xu stared at him for a few seconds, a hint of disappointment in his eyes. Bai Yifeng paused, put down his spoon, and spoke with a touch of awkwardness. “Do you want a goodbye hug?”
He could not bring himself to offer a kiss or anything more. To be honest, he only felt gratitude toward Fang Xu and was still planning to find a way to leave in the future. Fang Xu took great care of him, and Bai Yifeng understood the reason. While coveting one’s brother’s wife was not exactly moral, it technically had nothing to do with him.
Wait.
Bai Yifeng suddenly realized that he was the one who had been slept with! How could it have nothing to do with him?
Was he supposed to treat it like a dog bite? Fang Xu certainly looked like a large breed of dog, but Bai Yifeng could not ignore their relationship, especially since he might have to spend a significant amount of time with him. It was impossible to ignore.
Did Fang Xu like the real Bai Yifeng or the “Bai Yifeng” of this world? He did not know, and his brain did not particularly want to figure it out.
While he was lost in thought, Fang Xu happily lunged forward and gently pulled him into a hug. Bai Yifeng smelled that floral scent again. Could this be Fang Xu’s pheromone?
How could a Beta like him be attracted to an Alpha’s pheromones? Perhaps Alpha pheromones had a slight effect on Betas, or perhaps it was just the lingering effect of the drug. Bai Yifeng was not sure if his guess was correct, so he pushed the thought aside and politely returned the hug.
The latter was so delighted that he gave a light nip to the side of Bai Yifeng’s neck. Bai Yifeng felt a mix of pain and itching. Fang Xu had bitten near the back of his neck, where an Omega’s gland would typically be. But since he was a Beta, the bite only caused a slight sting.
Bai Yifeng did not take the detail to heart, and Fang Xu did not hold him for long. He soon released him. “It is getting late. A military vehicle will be here to pick me up soon. Brother Feng, get some rest. I am not sure when I will be back. I have prepared food in the kitchen; just heat it up when you are hungry. I wrote down all the instructions and left them on the table. Remember to read them.”
He rambled on with instructions like an old married couple, despite the two of them having spent less than a day and night together. Bai Yifeng lowered his head to eat his porridge, listening to Fang Xu’s nagging. He did not find it annoying. His biological parents had passed away early, and he had lived alone since elementary school with no siblings and little contact with relatives.
This kind of domestic nagging was exactly what he had always wanted.
“By the way, has Fang Yang contacted you?” Bai Yifeng asked when the room went quiet. Fang Xu shook his head and smiled. “Do not worry, Brother Feng. He is furious right now; he will not think to look for you.”
Bai Yifeng hummed in response as he finished his last bite. He tried to get up to take the tray to the kitchen. Fang Xu wanted to take the plate, but he was in the middle of changing clothes and had no hands free. “Brother Feng, leave it for me.”
“I am not that fragile.” Bai Yifeng walked past him with the tray, not forgetting to straighten Fang Xu’s collar. “Go on. Your smart-brain is ringing again.”
“Brother Feng, you will be here waiting for me to come back, right?” Fang Xu put on his military gloves and chased after Bai Yifeng, who was studying how to wash the dishes. “When I return, I will see you, right?”
“I have nowhere else to go right now.” Bai Yifeng did not look back. He finally figured out how to turn on the water. Amidst the splashing sound of the sink, he said softly, “If you come back and cannot find me, remember to call the police.”
“Do not say things like that.” Fang Xu stepped forward to embrace him again. The smart-brain beeped repeatedly. He did not have enough time to keep holding him, so he reluctantly let go. “Then, Brother Feng, I am leaving. Rest well.”
“Fang Xu,” Bai Yifeng suddenly called out to him. “What kind of person was I before?”
“Brother Feng?”
“Not after marrying Fang Yang. Before I married him, what was I like?” Bai Yifeng dried his hands and walked to the kitchen door, looking at the Alpha who had stopped at the entryway.
Fang Xu was silent for a few seconds before saying, “Back then, Brother Feng had just graduated and started working. You left early and came back late, but every day after work, you would bring me all sorts of delicious food. Whether it is the Brother Feng of the past or the Brother Feng of now, you are the Brother Feng I like most.”
“Kid,” Bai Yifeng laughed. He heard the sound of Fang Xu’s footsteps as he answered a call and ran downstairs. Seeing as it was nearly midnight, Bai Yifeng intended to go back to sleep, but after two steps, he felt as if his waist were going to snap.
A few minutes later, Bai Yifeng, exhausted both physically and mentally by the “kid,” finally threw himself onto the bed. He decided to sleep until noon the next day.
Finally, no work! And a new beginning in life! I must welcome it with a beautiful sleep!
With memories of his past life as a corporate drone triggered by Fang Xu’s words, Bai Yifeng fell into a deep sleep. Meanwhile, the Fang family ancestral home was not quite so peaceful.
“Is that so? Be careful on the way.” Fang Yang ended the call with his brother and looked back at the trembling Ye Lang. He said in a deep voice, “Why did you not tell me Fang Xu sent me a message?”
“I really did not see it. Ah!” Before Ye Lang could finish, Fang Yang lunged forward and grabbed him, lifting him off the ground like a small chick. Between fear and restricted breathing, Ye Lang’s face turned red.
Fang Yang said, “You think the person I care about most is Bai Yifeng? You are wrong. If Bai Yifeng were an Omega, I might look at him twice. Unfortunately, he is not. From start to finish, the person I care about most is my brother. In the future, do not hide any news concerning him from me.”
“I understand.” Ye Lang managed to squeeze the words out. Fang Yang finally threw him to the ground and took a high-density mechanical device from Louis. A red dot on it was blinking steadily.
Louis tapped a few times on his own smart-brain and said calmly, “Eldest Young Master, Mr. Bai’s tracker is still moving. He is currently within a safe zone. You may rest assured.”
“Continue monitoring.” Fang Yang let out a long breath. Ye Lang, who had just caught his breath, looked on with lingering shock. Fang Yang sneered. “Divorce? Even if we divorce, I will not let him go. How dare he defy me.”
“Colonel, what are you doing here?”
Fang Xu pulled back from his sniper scope. He watched a small deer leap away in the distance, a tiny red light blinking on its neck. Big brother really is a pervert, actually installing a tracking chip on Bai Yifeng. However, even though Fang Xu had placed the chip on the deer, it still functioned well enough to mislead Fang Yang for a while.
“Nothing. It is time to depart, Frey.” Fang Xu slung his weapon over his shoulder and looked down at the newly added contact on his smart-brain. He chuckled. “I have to get back early.”
“Did the Colonel get a pet?” Frey followed closely behind Fang Xu. In the distance, a giant starship waited silently for the soldiers, ready to carry them to a new battlefield.
Fang Xu inserted the key into the ignition lock and laughed over the roar of the starship’s closing doors. “My boyfriend is waiting for me to come back.”
