The Young Miss of the Xie Group never imagined that one day, she would become prey being hunted in a dense jungle. Chased into the wilderness, she hid like a stray puppy, desperately praying to go home, praying for someone to save her.
Mercenaries with hounds were hot on her trail. Ants crawled over her skin, and leeches on the leaves waited hungrily to suck her blood. It was a nightmare she was completely unprepared for, yet she struggled with everything she had to survive.
Until a person appeared like a ghost, suddenly covering her mouth and nose. At that moment, before Xie Changran’s heart could even flutter, she was knocked unconscious.
Cui Fu is a legendary woman in the world of mercenaries and bodyguards. She never expected that on the verge of retirement, she would receive a private request: go to the Mohe Jungle to rescue a “foolish lady” whose kindness had led her into a trap.
Cui Fu cut off her long hair, took a 5-million-euro deposit, and set out. Armed to the teeth, she trekked through the wilderness to complete the rescue.
Xie Changran had never seen such a powerful woman. No matter how grave her injuries, Cui Fu could endure them and lead her out of the enemy’s encirclement. No matter how much of a burden Xie Changran became, in every life-or-death moment, Cui Fu stayed to save her.
Watching Cui Fu’s tensed jaw and her perpetually stoic face, Xie Changran fell into deep thought: Could she ever like me?
The answer seemed to be no. In Cui Fu’s eyes, she was forever just an “employer”—a mission that needed to be completed. Xie Changran yearned for her affection, but Cui Fu never responded. In this desolate, peril-filled jungle, falling in love seemed both incredibly difficult and unexpectedly easy.
Cui Fu was always rigid and businesslike. Only when Xie Changran fell ill would she allow her to get close. Despite the coldness, Cui Fu risked her life for her time and again. Cui Fu claimed it was just the “Suspension Bridge Effect”—that once they returned to civilization, Xie Changran would “get over it.”
Xie Changran wondered: Is that really true?
Survival Mini-Theaters:
Scene 1: Xie Changran: “The wooden bed is too hard. Can I sleep on top of you?”
Cui Fu (Coldly): “No.”
Xie Changran: “Oh…” (Looking like a disappointed, pitiful puppy).
Xie Changran (Trying again): “If I don’t sleep well, I won’t be able to walk tomorrow.”
Cui Fu (Unmoved): “Then let the snakes bite you to death.”
Xie Changran: “…sob…” Xie Changran tosses and turns all night, crying from mosquito bites.
Cui Fu (Sighing): “Fine. Get up here.” Xie Changran happily rolls over and glues herself to Cui Fu with a triumphant smile.
Scene 2: Xie Changran: “Can I like you?”
Cui Fu (Deadpan): “No.”
Xie Changran: “Why?!”
Cui Fu: “It’ll interfere with me collecting my final payment.” Xie Changran, feeling aggrieved to the point of explosion, decides to “hang” onto Cui Fu’s body to torment her…
