The Villainess’s Darling [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 7
With Shang Shaotan’s intervention, Ning Xiao ultimately didn’t leave the classroom, and He Yue was not dismissed.
After class, Yun Can’er summoned her courage, walked from the front row to Ning Xiao’s side, and whispered, “Ning Xiao, I think what you said during class was right.”
Ning Xiao reached out and hooked her slender finger under Yun Can’er’s chin a flirtatious gesture, though her voice remained tender. “Of course, I wasn’t wrong. This isn’t your concern, though, so don’t get mixed up in it.”
Yun Can’er: “…”
Ning Xiao was truly strange. Why did she say things like that in such a gentle voice? It didn’t sound hurtful at all; in fact, it was strangely adorable.
At that thought, Yun Can’er’s ear tips flushed slightly.
Seeing Yun Can’er approach Ning Xiao, Shang Shaotan assumed she was being threatened. He stood up, walked over, and patted her frail shoulder. “Can’er, you don’t need to fear her. If Ning Xiao bullies you again, just tell me.” He followed this with a warning glare toward Ning Xiao.
Yun Can’er: When exactly has Ning Xiao bullied me?
She wanted to tell him that if he was sick, he should take medicine; Shang Shaotan really didn’t seem normal. Did he suffer from some kind of delusional disorder?
Ning Xiao nearly rolled her eyes. Where did this scumbag get the nerve to speak for her? Wasn’t he the one who intentionally goaded the original Ning Xiao into bullying Yun Can’er?
“Shaotan, you’ve really misunderstood me. I haven’t bullied Yun Can’er; if you don’t believe me, ask her yourself.” Ning Xiao finished speaking and lowered her head “sadly,” her shoulders trembling as if she were crying.
Shang Shaotan snorted. “If Can’er told the truth in front of you, who knows how you’d retaliate against her later”
Before Ning Xiao could figure out how to respond to his typical scumbag logic, Yun Can’er couldn’t help but widen her dark eyes. She spoke to Shang Shaotan with visible displeasure: “Student Shang, Ning Xiao has not bullied me. Even if she did, it’s none of your business. I hope you’ll stop interfering.”
Shang Shaotan: “…?”
This wasn’t how the script in his head was supposed to go. Wasn’t Yun Can’er supposed to worship him as a savior when he defended her? Why did she seem to dislike him so much now?
Shang Shaotan felt a bit disoriented. With so many people watching, he felt embarrassed and struggled to maintain a neutral expression as he turned and walked back to his seat.
Meanwhile, He Yue stormed straight to the Dean’s office after class to demand an explanation from Fang Lei.
“Director Fang! Ning Xiao is a piece of rat droppings ruining the whole pot of porridge in our class! With her there, I can’t even teach!”
As the events of the class replayed in her mind, He Yue’s face turned red with rage. She slammed her hands onto the desk with a loud thud, causing Fang Lei’s teacup to jump a millimeter off the surface.
Fang Lei tried to console her like the old peacemaker he was. “Teacher He, Xiao Xiao isn’t the type to go looking for trouble on purpose. Is it possible there’s a misunderstanding? If so, it’s best to talk it out. As for her transfer, didn’t we agree? If she doesn’t make the top fifty in the next monthly exam, she moves back. It’s only been one day; if you go back on your word now, it makes things very difficult for me.”
Fang Lei looked at He Yue with a troubled expression.
He Yue knew she was in the wrong logically, but she couldn’t stand Ning Xiao challenging her authority.
“Director Fang, I just suffered a great humiliation because of her. How are the students supposed to look at me now? With her there, my teaching is severely hindered. Can we change the conditions for her transfer?” He Yue’s tone softened slightly, losing its aggressive edge.
Fang Lei thought for a moment. “What condition did you have in mind?”
In Fang Lei’s view, it was impossible for Ning Xiao to reach the top fifty. Perhaps she could complete a different task, and then He Yue would have no reason to demand her transfer.
Thinking of Ning Xiao’s inability to recite the text in class, He Yue said, “Recitation.” She quickly added, “Reciting backward with perfect fluency.”
Fang Lei’s expression soured. He Yue was clearly making things difficult! “Reciting a four-line poem backward?”
He Yue threw her pride away; she just didn’t want Ning Xiao in her class. “No. An 800-word classical prose text.”
Classical prose was already obscure and difficult to understand; reciting it backward was completely illogical. And this was an 800-word text! Even reciting it forward with “perfect fluency” was hard enough, let alone backward.
Fang Lei said sternly, “Teacher He, that is going too far.”
He Yue thought to herself: You call me “too far” when you didn’t see how she acted in class? She felt she wasn’t being far enough! If it weren’t for the fact that Ning Xiao’s family were shareholders, she would have kicked her out long ago. Actually, she never would have given Ning Xiao the chance to enter Class 1 in the first place.
“Director Fang, this is between me and Ning Xiao. Just because you don’t agree doesn’t mean she won’t. I’m telling you this because I want you to be a witness, in case one of us tries to break the promise after she agrees.”
Aren’t you the one most likely to break a promise? Fang Lei almost blurted out the insult. “…I’ll have Xiao Xiao come over after school at noon.” He knew He Yue wouldn’t give up until she was proven wrong. Since Ning Xiao obviously wouldn’t agree to such a proposal, he would just bring her in to settle it face-to-face.
There were four classes in the morning. Usually, the moment the teacher finished speaking, Ning Xiao would forget everything a second later. After a whole morning of study, she hadn’t retained a single word.
However, she remembered her lunch date with Yun Can’er. That had happened before she took the Memory Pill, so she couldn’t forget it.
Ning Xiao hadn’t paid much attention in class. She hadn’t even taken out a pen. She carelessly stuffed her textbooks into her desk, finished packing, and walked to the podium with her meal card to wait for Yun Can’er.
Shang Shaotan’s ego still hadn’t recovered, so he avoided both Ning Xiao and Yun Can’er as he left.
Yun Can’er packed her things meticulously and slowly. By the time she finished, only she and Ning Xiao were left in the classroom.
Ning Xiao leaned her elbows on the podium, her voice sounding lazy. “Yun Can’er, I’ve never seen anyone pack a desk slower than you.”
Yun Can’er stuffed her last book into a simple book rack and stood up in a flustered hurry, her face red. “Sorry, I’m ready now.”
“Mhm. I should hope so. If I faint from hunger, who are you going to eat with?” Every word sounded like a barb, yet Ning Xiao’s tone was so languid and strangely alluring.
Yun Can’er’s face felt as if it were on fire; a deep flush spread across her cheeks, and her dark eyes grew misty.
“You’re quite warm.” Ning Xiao’s cool fingertips brushed against Yun Can’er’s cheek before she withdrew her hand and turned around. “Let’s go eat.”
If it weren’t for the persistent hunger in her stomach, she might have already forgotten what she was supposed to be doing.
Yun Can’er felt too shy to walk side-by-side with Ning Xiao, so she followed half a step behind. She couldn’t stop herself from staring at Ning Xiao’s back the way her hair bounced, the occasional glimpse of her slender white neck, her thin waist, her long legs, and even the small leather shoes on her feet.
Everything about Ning Xiao was beautiful.
As they walked out of the teaching building, Ning Xiao’s phone suddenly rang. She stopped to answer it. After listening to Fang Lei on the other end, she let out a smirk. “Fine. I’ll be right there.”
Hanging up, she turned to Yun Can’er. “I need to go to the Dean’s office. Come with me.”
Ning Xiao stood with her back to the sun, her beautiful face appearing stunningly radiant. Yun Can’er didn’t even process what she said before instinctively nodding. “Okay.”
Ning Xiao chuckled and ruffled Yun Can’er’s soft hair. “So well-behaved.”
