The Villainess’s Darling [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 4
When Yun Can’er saw Ning Xiao, her footsteps faltered. Clutching her swimsuit, she lowered her gaze and continued walking forward.
Ning Xiao stepped out and blocked her path. “Yun Can’er, I’ve switched to the swimming activity. Remember to wait for me so we can come together from now on.”
Ning Xiao had already changed into her swimsuit, fully revealing her graceful figure. Yun Can’er stole a glance at her; Ning Xiao’s skin was so white it was dazzling. She quickly averted her eyes and said, “Shang Shaotan isn’t participating in the swimming activity.”
Ning Xiao’s lips curled into a smirk. “That’s not necessarily true. I wasn’t originally participating either.”
In the novel, Shang Shaotan had intentionally transferred to the swimming group and took several opportunities to strike up conversations with Yun Can’er. Rumors of a scandal between them soon spread. Once Ning Xiao found out, she began to make life difficult for Yun Can’er at every turn.
Shang Shaotan only realized his feelings for Yun Can’er were love at the very end of the novel. Before that realization, he spent nearly the entire book tormenting her.
It started with him being unable to accept that Yun Can’er’s grades were better than his. Later, after losing a bet and having his confession rejected by her, his pride was severely wounded. He found her even more of an eyesore and began intentionally showing her special attention, baiting his admirers primarily Ning Xiao, into bullying her. He planned to eventually play the role of the savior to make Yun Can’er fall for him.
In the original plot, things developed exactly as he intended. Under the weight of his repeated “help,” Yun Can’er fell in love with him. She chose to confess her feelings on his birthday, only to be publicly humiliated by him in front of everyone. This led to her living in a daze for months; she failed her college entrance exams, missing out on Huada University and settling for an ordinary tier-one school.
Ning Xiao waited for Yun Can’er to finish changing, and then they walked toward the pool together.
As they reached the gathering point, Ning Xiao suddenly leaned in and whispered into Yun Can’er’s ear, “I told you that guy would show up.”
Yun Can’er jumped in surprise. She covered her ear and glared at Ning Xiao with her bright dark eyes, only to be momentarily dazed by the smile on Ning Xiao’s face.
The beautiful girl looked at her with a beaming expression, as if all the light in the room were converging on her. She was so radiant that Yun Can’er felt an uncontrollable surge of longing in her heart.
“Can’er, what a coincidence.” Shang Shaotan walked over, dressed ostentatiously in black swim trunks. He actually had a visible six-pack; the surrounding girls immediately covered their mouths and gasped, while the boys looked on with eyes full of jealousy and envy.
Ning Xiao was standing right next to Yun Can’er, yet Shang Shaotan acted as if she didn’t exist.
The smile faded from Ning Xiao’s face.
Second plot point initiated! System 13579 announced excitedly.
As her body was taken over, Ning Xiao’s face was covered in a layer of frost. Her watery eyes were filled with a blazing fury, and she said in a harsh tone, “Shaotan, didn’t you choose Karate? Why are you here at the swimming activity?”
Shang Shaotan gave her a cold, indifferent glance. “It has nothing to do with you.”
Yun Can’er had no intention of getting involved in their argument. She turned to leave but was grabbed by the wrist by Ning Xiao.
[Ning Xiao’s] grip was incredibly strong, making Yun Can’er’s face turn even paler. “Ning Xiao, this is between the two of you. I’ve already said I don’t like Shang Shaotan.”
“Who knows if your ‘dislike’ is real or fake?”
Shang Shaotan’s expression darkened as he said, “Can’er, it doesn’t matter if you don’t like me right now. I won’t give up. If you’re afraid to accept my confession because of other people, I want to tell you: don’t be afraid. I can protect you.”
He spoke with an air of deep affection, implying that Yun Can’er was only refusing him because she was being threatened by Ning Xiao.
Ning Xiao was livid upon hearing this, her chest heaving with rage. When had she ever suffered such an injustice? “Shaotan, how can you say that?” Her voice was soft and laced with grievance, sounding enough to make anyone’s heart melt.
As Yun Can’er turned her head, she accidentally caught a glimpse of Ning Xiao’s snowy, ample curves. Her mind went blank instantly, and she forgot where she was and entirely forgot what Shang Shaotan had just said.
“Heh! Yun Can’er, you sure look excited by Shaotan’s confession! Your face is all red. How do you have the nerve to say you don’t like him?”
The sharp pain in her wrist brought Yun Can’er back to her senses, but she had no way to explain herself.
She certainly couldn’t say she was blushing because she had seen how good Ning Xiao’s figure was.
Yun Can’er shot Shang Shaotan a look filled with disgust, wondering why he was so persistent and annoying. If he hadn’t kept pestering her, Ning Xiao wouldn’t be targeting her like this.
She and Ning Xiao might have even… become friends.
Ding! Second plot point concluded! Congratulations.
Host, on completing the task. You have earned 10 points. Points spent: 10 Memory Pill. Total points: 10.
Ning Xiao regained control of her body and quickly let go. Yun Can’er’s wrist had already turned a deep shade of purple.
“Yun Can’er, your hand.”
Heartpained, Ning Xiao wanted to pull Yun Can’er’s hand up to blow on it, but Shang Shaotan slapped her slender fingers away. “Ning Xiao, stop pretending to be kind here! Yun Can’er’s wrist ended up like this because of you!”
Ning Xiao couldn’t be bothered to deal with this idiot scumbag, but she had to stay in character. While her eyes remained fixed on Yun Can’er’s wrist in concern, she said sadly to Shang Shaotan, “Shaotan, how could you say such things to me?”
Shang Shaotan snorted coldly. “Ning Xiao, I’ve made it clear to you that I don’t like you. There’s no possibility for us. Give up already and stop bullying Can’er. She’s not like you.”
Ning Xiao really wanted to slap Shang Shaotan across the face to see just how many times larger his ego was compared to his head.
The swimming instructor walked in and, seeing the three of them in a tense standoff, chuckled. “What’s this? Are we having a martial arts showdown? Young Master Shang versus two?”
Shang Shaotan was extremely vain. Being teased by the teacher made him unable to stay; without saying a word, he walked off to the side.
“Alright, you’ve learned enough basic knowledge in the first few classes. This session, we’ll split into pairs to practice and learn from each other. Let me count… exactly twenty-six people. Divide yourselves into thirteen groups. We’ll have a swimming exam next week, and only those who pass can continue the activity.”
Ning Xiao had been watching Yun Can’er the whole time and noticed her body go stiff at the mention of an “exam.” As soon as the instructor dismissed them, Ning Xiao walked to her side and said, “Yun Can’er, pair up with me. I’ll teach you how to swim.”
Yun Can’er pursed her pale lips. She didn’t agree, but she didn’t refuse either.
She truly wasn’t good at swimming, and if no one taught her, she likely wouldn’t pass the exam. Because of what had just happened, everyone else was keeping their distance from her. The only person Yun Can’er could choose was Ning Xiao.
Taking her silence as consent, Ning Xiao naturally took her hand and gently massaged the bruised, purple wrist.
“Ning Xiao, don’t…” A tingling sensation flowed from her wrist into her heart. Yun Can’er’s cheeks flushed slightly, and her dark eyes grew misty as she offered a weak protest.
“I’m just rubbing it for you so you’ll have strength when you swim later,” Ning Xiao said softly, looking down at the girl’s reddish hair glowing in the sunlight.
