- Chapter 1 - Transmigrating into an Obsessive Lover
“Cui Ergou! Cui Ergou!”
“Still not awake and the sun is high in the sky, you god-awful, wretched servant!”
So noisy. The voice was shrilly piercing, causing a surge of irritation in Yun Chuanzhi’s heart. Didn’t they say that once you die, everything ends? Why was there no peace even in the underworld?
Yes, Yun Chuanzhi was dead. She had spent her life living on the edge of a blade, always prepared for battle. She had finally carved out a place for herself in Wujian City, only to die alone of illness on a rainy night.
Fortunately, she didn’t mind. As the saying goes, after death one knows all things are empty, and Yun Chuanzhi believed this firmly. When she closed her eyes for the last time, her heart held no sorrow. Instead, her mind was filled with the joy of thinking: This dog-sh-t world, I am finally done serving you.
Then, Yun Chuanzhi was woken up by the noise.
It was dusk, and the daylight was fading. Outside the window, crows cawed mockingly. The wooden beams of the roof were covered in damp mold, and the bed beneath her was colder and harder than frozen earth in winter.
She opened her eyes. The blurred voice by her ear became much clearer, and it was currently unleashing a torrent of abuse. “You are awake? If you are awake, why aren’t you out there working?”
“It is pure bad luck to be on duty with you. Look at yourself! A lowly immortal servant branded with a slave mark, yet you dare to flirt with the Sect Master!”
“I do not know if a donkey kicked your brain. Do you not know the difference between the clouds and the mud? Even if you just used your own urine as a mirror, you would not have done such a filthy thing and made me a laughingstock by association!”
What was going on? Yun Chuanzhi rolled her dry eyes and looked around at the surroundings in surprise.
This was not Wujian City. Yun Chuanzhi knew this the moment she opened her eyes because even this dilapidated shack was filled with dense spiritual energy, unlike Wujian City, which was like a pond that had been dried up for tens of thousands of years.
This was also not her body. Yun Chuanzhi tugged at the loose cloth shirt she was wearing; her thin, frail frame rattled inside the coarse fabric. This body would have trouble catching a chicken, let alone fighting to the death.
“I am talking to you! Are you deaf from the beating?” The voice exploded again. The person reached out to grab her collar, and Yun Chuanzhi was yanked so hard she nearly fell to her knees as her vision went dark again.
When it rains, it pours. Not only was this body as weak as a reed, but it was also injured. Judging by the weak pulse, the person had likely been beaten until they spat blood and suffered internal injuries.
Her internal organs throbbed with a piercing pain that left Yun Chuanzhi drenched in sweat. She had to find a few pressure points and apply force, allowing her breath to recover some qi and blood.
Her vision gradually cleared, and Yun Chuanzhi saw the person dragging her. She looked like a peasant woman wearing a brown short-sleeved shirt, sturdy and healthy-looking with a ruddy complexion. She was strong enough to lift Yun Chuanzhi with one hand.
She seemed to loathe Yun Chuanzhi, as she continued to scold her incessantly. “With a face like yours, you dared to seduce the Sect Master? And dressing like this; if I were the Sect Master, I would have beaten you to death. Why leave you alive?”
What was she saying? Seduce which Sect Master?
Just as Yun Chuanzhi was about to speak, the woman snatched a copper mirror and threw it at her. “Since you are awake, hurry up and wash your face. There is so much work piled up in the courtyard; do you expect me to do it for you?”
After saying that, she gave Yun Chuanzhi a fierce glare and stomped away. The dilapidated wooden door was slammed shut with such force that dust fell from the rafters.
Yun Chuanzhi choked on the dust and coughed. Her hands felt weak as she picked up the copper mirror. After one look, she lowered her head and coughed even harder, as if her lungs were breaking.
The person in the mirror was certainly not herself. Even when she was terminally ill, she had never been this gaunt. Her face was so sharp it looked as if she had not eaten since birth, appearing pathetic and frail.
One side of her cheek was covered in dried blood, likely spat out when she was beaten unconscious. It had been stuck to her face for so long because no one had helped her wipe it away.
Yun Chuanzhi set down the mirror and stood up by leaning against the wall. The room was extremely small, containing only the bed and a worm-eaten square table. Other than that, the floor was covered in fragments of green stone.
Yun Chuanzhi recognized the uniqueness of these stones at a glance. She slowly crouched down, picked up a fragment, and examined the ink marks on it.
These were no ordinary stones. Each fragment contained a thin amount of spiritual energy, which was slowly dissipating as the stones broke.
These were Soul-Transfer Stones! She had been offered a body through a soul sacrifice.
As expected of the Qianyuan Realm where spiritual energy was abundant; even a young girl could possess such rare items as Soul-Transfer Stones. It was just a pity.
Yun Chuanzhi could not help but smile bitterly. She thought, Little sister, of all people you could have sacrificed your life to, why did it have to be Yun Chuanzhi? If being reborn meant a life of luxury, it would be fine, but looking at this situation, you were likely a miserable soul as well.
However, as the ancients said: “Since you are already here.”
Yun Chuanzhi shook her robes and stood up. She first tested the spiritual energy within this body. As expected, it was like a stone sinking into the ocean. She was not discouraged. Instead, she took a stone fragment and drew an extremely complex formation on the dusty floor.
The spiritual energy within the stone transformed into thin lines, which then gathered into a single point of blue light that rose into the air. It dropped onto the copper mirror like a water droplet, creating a ripple with a soft thump.
The smooth surface of the mirror began to swirl with vibrant colors, like a pool of rainbow water, merging together to form several images.
This was the second stage of the Soul Sacrifice Formation: recounting the past and the future.
The owner of this body was named Cui Ergou, who lived in Liba Village on East Bamboo Mountain. Because her family was poor, she was sold into slavery. After changing hands several times in the marketplace, she was eventually lucky enough to be bought and brought to Buxi Mountain, becoming a low-ranking immortal servant.
If that were all, it would not be so tragic. The tragedy was that she had somehow become possessed and fell obsessively in love with the Master of the Fifth Peak of Buxi Mountain, Bai Fenghe. She had exhausted all her resources just to serve in her household.
She had even managed to get close to Bai Fenghe, using every means possible, including heavy makeup, to try and seduce her. She had done many absurd things, and because she was so bold, almost half of Buxi Mountain knew of her behavior.
According to the Soul Sacrifice Formation, if she continued to pester her like this, the final result would be getting sliced in half by Bai Fenghe, leaving no chance for survival.
Buxi Mountain. Bai Fenghe. Yun Chuanzhi looked at the mirror and smiled bitterly.
Even while living in the distant Wujian City of the lower realm, Yun Chuanzhi had heard this name. The Qianyuan Realm was rich in spiritual energy and treasures; it was the “heaven” that people in the lower realm fought to ascend to. There were many talented individuals here, but very few villains.
And Bai Fenghe, who was once the Young Sect Master of Buxi Mountain but was now condemned for murdering her own master, eventually falling to the position of managing the neglected Fifth Peak, was one of those few villains.
What did the world say about her? They said she had high talent but wasted it on idleness, living in a dreamlike stupor, being capricious and violent. They said she was showered with love but was ungrateful and treacherous, secretly harming her elders with the heart of a scorpion.
Furthermore, this person was extremely lecherous, frequently bullying men and women. Her sins were simply too many to record.
The original owner had actually fallen for someone like that. It was no wonder she ended up completely despondent and so heartbroken that she performed a soul sacrifice.
Since that was the case, she could only help the original owner of this body live a good life. Filled with pity, Yun Chuanzhi brushed her sleeve, and an image appeared on the mirror.
The person in the image stood at the end of a muddy alley. Her face was obscured, and only her purple dress fluttering in the wind was visible. Upon the hem of the dress, which was completely free of dust, sparkled a pattern of baby’s breath flowers.
Then, a blood-written message appeared, stating the final wish: “O immortals passing by, you who borrow my body, please listen to this servant’s final wish. Exert all your strength to reform my beloved.”
After reading it, Yun Chuanzhi was speechless for a long time.
She had thought the person would ask her for help with revenge or to escape slavery and regain freedom. She never imagined it would be to reform that scumbag Sect Master who had nearly killed her!
Child, Buddha saves all living beings, but Buddha does not save the love-obsessed!
Her timing was also extremely unfortunate. The original owner had just been beaten for seducing Bai Fenghe. If she continued to help “reform” Bai Fenghe, then the one getting sliced in half would be Yun Chuanzhi.
Could she return this body?
While she was standing there in a daze, the door was suddenly slammed open. Yun Chuanzhi quickly turned around and used the hem of her clothes to wipe away the formation she had drawn on the floor.
The woman from before entered. Seeing that Yun Chuanzhi had not yet cleaned herself up, her anger flared up again. She grabbed a broom from the corner and stepped forward to hit her with force.
As she hit her, she screamed: “You delusional thing! You really think you can climb the high branch of the Sect Master? What kind of beauties doesn’t the Sect Master have in her hall? How could she ever look at an ugly monster like you!”
“It is almost dark. Go chop wood right now. Do not even think about eating until you are finished!”
Yun Chuanzhi had not suffered such bullying in years. She frantically ran in circles to hide, but the room was too small. No matter where she hid, she could not escape. The hard broom kept hitting her body, and there was not a single spot that did not hurt.
Yun Chuanzhi grew furious from the beating. She cursed under her breath about how people were being too much, then ducked under the table while protecting her head. She gritted her teeth and wrote a few strokes on the ground, then grabbed a few fragments of the Soul-Transfer Stones and threw them onto the runes.
The moment the stones touched the runes, the spiritual energy within them was instantly awakened, and a deep blue light ignited on the surface.
Under the woman’s shocked gaze, those fragments floated up. Using them as a torso and a head, they formed a stone doll only the size of a palm.
“What, what kind of sorcery is this?” The woman asked, stuttering while holding the broom.
“How could this be sorcery? How impolite.” Yun Chuanzhi clicked her tongue. She waved her hand, and the stone doll floated in front of the woman’s eyes.
It was just a small trick. The Qianyuan Realm was rich in spiritual energy, and immortal arts could manifest most physical objects. They looked down on techniques like tool-refinement that relied on external power, so it was normal for a commoner not to know about it.
However, compared to the large woman, the stone doll was truly tiny. The woman was not intimidated by it; she cursed loudly and raised the broom to strike.
The broom whistled through the air as it came down, but it stopped abruptly just as it was about to smash the stone doll. The woman stared in horror. The tiny stone doll had actually raised its hand to catch the end of the broom, causing her hands to go numb from the shock.
“This is…”
Yun Chuanzhi did not have time to let her finish. She simply flicked her wrist, and the woman was swatted into the wall by the stone doll using the broom.
She then slid silently into the corner and fainted.
Yun Chuanzhi crawled out from under the table, brushed the dust off her clothes, and tucked the happily clapping stone doll into her sleeve.
She currently had no spiritual power at all. This little trick was enough to deal with a bullying servant, but if she faced that Sect Master, Bai Fenghe, it would not be nearly enough.
For now, it was better to leave. While failing to fulfill the original owner’s final wish would result in death, dying outside was better than dying at the hands of Bai Fenghe. After all, according to Bai Fenghe’s rumored personality, who knew how much torture one would suffer before death.
Yun Chuanzhi hastily cleared the remaining formation on the ground and turned to push open the door. Unexpectedly, before she could even step out, a gust of astral wind hit her face. A snow-white long whip lunged out from the eye of the wind like a swimming dragon, binding her tightly in the blink of an eye.
A terrifying sense of pressure followed. Yun Chuanzhi fell to her knees with a thud as an ethereal voice spoke from above.
“The Sect Master summons Cui Ergou for an audience.”
It is over, Yun Chuanzhi thought in her mind.
