- Chapter 6 - Yan Hui States Her Position
“Sigh…”
The moment Song Ziqing opened her door, she was startled by a heavy sigh. Lu Ge was sitting on the corridor railing right outside, gazing at her with a look of deep resentment.
“What are you doing? You gave me a fright.” Song Ziqing patted her chest, leaning her head against her hand in exasperation.
Lu Ge pouted. “Where did you go last night? What were you up to?”
Song Ziqing’s heart skipped a beat, but she quickly forced a relaxed smile. “Nowhere special. Why do you ask?”
“Nowhere special?!” Lu Ge hopped down in a huff and marched over to her. “Don’t think I don’t know. I saw everything—you came out of Lu Qinnian’s room without any clothes on!”
Song Ziqing froze, a guilty smile flickering on her lips. “You must have seen wrong.”
“I did not!” Lu Ge glared at her. “Honestly, Song Ziqing, I’ve been so good to you since we were kids, and this is how you treat me!”
Song Ziqing’s heart hammered. I’m doomed, she caught me. But we have a sisterly bond; surely she won’t do anything to me? She loves beautiful people… maybe I should try seducing her!
Song Ziqing took a step forward, prepared to “sell” her charms, but she was immediately blocked. “Don’t! You haven’t called me ‘Sister’ once this morning. And last night was even worse—you found a top-tier Omega and didn’t share her with me! Instead, you shared her with Lu Qinnian. She’s usually so mean to you, yet she’s your favorite sister?! Then what am I to you? Just because Lu Qinnian is your ‘good sister’?”
Song Ziqing stared at her in disbelief, then let out a huge sigh of relief when she saw the pouty face. She grabbed Lu Ge’s hand with a giggle. “Good sister, I was wrong. I wanted to call you last night, but weren’t you drunk? I was worried that if you drank too much, you’d lose your sense of boundaries and mark someone by accident. That would be a huge mess, wouldn’t it?”
“Really?” Lu Ge looked at her, a tiny glint of joy appearing on her face, though she tried to stay angry. “Then why choose Lu Qinnian? She has zero sense of fun!”
“She forced her way in,” Song Ziqing said with a look of disdain, shaking her head and spreading her hands helplessly. “You know how domineering and unreasonable she is. She’s always been unfriendly to me, and she’s the one who calls the shots in the Lu family. How would I dare provoke her?”
“How hateful! That Lu Qinnian is going too far!” Lu Ge looked furious. Lu Qinnian always seemed to target Qingqing. Even if she was a foster daughter, there was no need to be so exclusionary. It was simply too much!
Lu Ge took Song Ziqing’s hand. “Don’t worry, Sister will help you. We’ll tell Mother. Let’s see if she dares to bully you again!”
Song Ziqing pouted, looking as though she were about to burst into tears. She threw herself into Lu Ge’s arms and hugged her tight. “I knew Sister Gege loved me most. If it weren’t for you, I don’t know if Lu Qinnian would even let me stay in the Lu family anymore. Waaaah…”
“Qingqing, what did you say?” Lu Ge pulled back, her anger rising. “She actually wants to kick you out?”
Song Ziqing shook her head miserably. “She hasn’t said it yet, but I feel like she’s going to find an excuse to frame me and drive me away.”
“Frame you?” Lu Ge put her hands on her hips in a rage. “This Lu Qinnian is becoming more cold-blooded by the day. To be so cruel to her own Qingqing!”
“Does Niannian just not like me?” Song Ziqing looked devastated. “I’m so grateful to Auntie, Uncle, and my sisters for being so good to me. If Sister Qinnian wants me gone, I’ll leave without a single word of complaint.”
“Don’t talk nonsense!” Lu Ge stroked her head comfortingly. “Be good, don’t be sad. If Lu Qinnian dares to frame you, I’ll be the one to expose her. You don’t need to be afraid. You’ll always be a member of the Lu family and always my sister. No one is allowed to kick you out—this is your home!”
“Thank you, Sister Gege. But… do you remember the explosion from before?”
“It was only yesterday; how could I forget?” Lu Ge looked at the distressed girl in confusion.
Song Ziqing pouted. “I’m afraid she wants to make me the scapegoat. She’ll say I planted the bomb. She’ll probably have ‘irrefutable’ evidence, and I won’t be able to explain myself… Sister, what should I do?”
Lu Ge froze, then shook her head quickly. “No, she wouldn’t dare be that excessive.”
“I thought so too. I didn’t think Sister Qinnian would kick me out, but I’m still worried…”
Seeing the girl on the verge of tears, Lu Ge hugged her again. “There, there, don’t cry. If it really comes to that, I’ll be your witness and prove you’re innocent.”
“Thank you, Sister…” Song Ziqing clung to her. “I knew Sister Gege was the best. Without your protection, I can’t even imagine where I’d be right now.”
“It’s okay, don’t be sad anymore. Let’s go out and play. I happen to be free for the next few days, so I’ll accompany you. We’ll just ignore that domineering, unreasonable Lu Qinnian! Humph!”
Song Ziqing hummed in agreement and took her hand. Lu Ge didn’t think twice about the gesture, assuming the girl was just being clingy because of her age.
As soon as they went downstairs, they saw quite a few people sitting in the living room, everyone looking incredibly serious. Lu Qinnian was sitting right in the center, staring at them with a stern expression. Yan Hui was there too; she turned around and gave Song Ziqing a wave and a sly, fox-like grin.
“What’s going on here?” Lu Ge asked first.
Mother Lu looked toward Song Ziqing anxiously. “Qingqing, come here.”
Song Ziqing looked at Lu Ge beside her with a pleading gaze. “Sister…”
“Don’t be afraid, I’m here.” Lu Ge gave Lu Qinnian a dissatisfied glare.
Lu Qinnian’s heart sank as she watched Song Ziqing finally let go of Lu Ge’s hand. Her gaze was full of disdain. This time, the evidence was ironclad; she wanted to see what kind of excuses the girl would try to make.
At that moment, Yan Hui let out a laugh. “I’ve helped Miss Lu find the culprit who planted the bomb. The rest is family business, so it wouldn’t be appropriate for me to stay.”
Song Ziqing looked at Yan Hui uneasily. Yan Hui gave her a friendly smile, waved, and turned to leave.
Suddenly, she paused and looked back at the serious-faced Lu family members. She said with a grin, “By the way, I’m actually quite interested in that top-tier Omega from the cellar last night. Miss Lu, you’ll have to introduce us sometime.”
Lu Qinnian’s brow furrowed, her voice turning cold. “Not just anyone can be introduced to her.”
“Burning bridges, are we?” Yan Hui shrugged and let out a helpless sigh. “That’s fine. I remember that scent. I’ll be able to find her. When I do, don’t blame me for stealing your love, Miss Lu.”
Lu Qinnian’s lips twitched, and her deep eyes grew even colder. Song Ziqing swallowed hard in nervousness. Beside her, Lu Kui watched the departing Yan Hui before looking toward Song Ziqing with a worried expression.
