- The Villain Turned Out to Be a Scummy Omega? [GL]
- Chapter 5 - Xie Muqing’s Suspicions
The first ray of morning sun filtered through the silver window curtains, casting a soft glow across the pure white sheets. On the spacious double bed, a petite figure was huddled beneath the duvet, with only the top of her head visible.
Her forehead was flushed a light pink. Perhaps the sunlight was too piercing, as the sleeping girl knit her brows and her weary eyelids fluttered slightly.
Song Ziqing shifted her weight, finding the bed beneath her exceptionally soft, as if she were sleeping on a cloud of marshmallows. A crisp, clean scent—like pine and cypress amidst melting snow clung to the air, sharpening her senses in the morning light.
Images of Lu Qinnian’s body flashed through her mind. Song Ziqing’s heart skipped a beat, and she snapped awake. She opened her eyes, squinting against the stinging sunlight, and gasped at the sight of the snow-white sheets before frantically throwing back the covers.
Song Ziqing’s eyes widened. Aside from the barest essentials, she had nothing on. Even her underwear was hanging loosely off her arm. She had been lying in the bed virtually naked.
She bolted upright, clutching the duvet to her chest as she scanned the room. Her heart sank when her eyes landed on a photograph sitting on the bedside table. She muttered under her breath, “Lu Qinnian.”
The events of the previous night came rushing back. Had Lu Qinnian actually charged into the wine cellar to save her? Song Ziqing found it hard to believe.
In the original plot, Lu Qinnian had harboured a deep-seated, bone-deep hatred for this foster sister from the very first time she acted out. Why on earth would she save her?
Her gaze settled on a face-down photo frame. Song Ziqing hurriedly threw on her clothes and reached out to flip it over.
It was a photo of her and Lu Qinnian. However, it was plain to see that Lu Qinnian hadn’t been particularly willing; her arms were folded in a defensive posture. Song Ziqing stood beside her, head tilted toward Lu Qinnian’s shoulder, holding up a triumphant peace sign.
No wonder it had been left face-down. Song Ziqing pouted with disdain. The original host really had been someone who would stop at nothing to get what she wanted, even forcing a sense of intimacy with Lu Qinnian. This photo had likely been placed there at Mother Lu’s insistence.
As Song Ziqing was lost in thought, she heard the sound of running water from the en-suite bathroom. She looked up and caught the vague silhouette of a figure through the frosted glass.
Lu Qinnian is still in the room? Song Ziqing’s heart hammered. She threw back the covers to climb out of bed, but couldn’t find her clothes, so she quickly dove back under.
She was doomed. If Lu Qinnian came out now, she’d definitely be furious, and she would undoubtedly assume last night was another one of her schemes.
Song Ziqing touched her lips, her face twisting into an expression of regret as she frustratedly ruffled her hair. Why did I have to kiss her?!
“No, I have to get out of here.” Song Ziqing hurriedly climbed out of bed. She grabbed the only available item—a dark red striped towel draped over a nearby armchair—wrapped it around herself, and began to tiptoe out of the bedroom.
Just as she reached the door, there was a sharp click. Someone was opening the front door from the outside.
Terrified and at a loss, Song Ziqing clutched her towel and ducked back into the bedroom with her head down, only to bump straight into a firm thigh.
She spun around in a panic, staring wide-eyed at the sudden appearance of Lu Qinnian. Lu Qinnian looked down at the sneaky intruder with displeasure and opened her mouth to speak, but Song Ziqing lunged forward and muffled her with her hand.
Song Ziqing scrambled to close the bedroom door behind her. In the moment she let go, the only towel she was wearing slipped from her fair shoulders.
Lu Qinnian immediately looked away, pushing the girl’s hand aside. “What are you up to now?” she asked impatiently.
Song Ziqing hurriedly gathered the towel back around her body, looking at Lu Qinnian with wide, nervous eyes. She shook her head frantically and whispered, “Quiet! Someone’s coming in.”
Lu Qinnian looked the nervous girl up and down, her lips curling into a disdainful sneer. “You’re actually afraid of someone finding out?”
Song Ziqing froze, then glared at her. “You might not care about your reputation, but I care about mine!”
Lu Qinnian: “…”
Seeing Lu Qinnian push past her to open the door, Song Ziqing lunged forward to hold her hand back, shaking her head in terror.
Lu Qinnian pushed her away with a look of disgust and swung the door open, striding out. By the time Song Ziqing tried to shut the door, it was too late.
Standing at the entrance was Xie Muqing, who stared in shock at the towel-clad Song Ziqing and then at the approaching Lu Qinnian.
Song Ziqing gave a sheepish “Hi.” Xie Muqing looked down blankly at the pile of clothes on the floor—it was exactly what Song Ziqing had worn yesterday. This meant she wasn’t wearing anything under that towel.
When Xie Muqing looked up again, her gaze had turned distinctly unfriendly. Word was that after several people had drunk a special wine in the cellar last night, the scent of an elite Omega had filled the air. At the critical moment, that Omega had been carried away by Lu Qinnian—who was famous for wanting nothing to do with Omegas.
When Yan Hui told her the story this morning, she had spoken with a lingering sense of intrigue about the “top-tier Omega,” and her dislike for Lu Qinnian had reached a new high.
It was because of that story that Xie Muqing had rushed over so early, letting herself in without even knocking. But why was the person here Song Ziqing?
Xie Muqing walked forward with a vacant expression and picked up the clothes from the floor. She looked at the smiling Song Ziqing with a wooden stare. “Qingqing, why are you here?”
Noticing the hostile look, Song Ziqing was stunned for a moment before remembering that Xie Muqing had a long-standing crush on Lu Qinnian. Otherwise, with her status as a high-quality Omega, she would have been married with children by now.
Song Ziqing glanced over at Lu Qinnian, who had just downed a glass of water. Droplets still clung to her pale chin. Dressed in a black tracksuit with her hair in a half-bun, she looked incredibly youthful almost like a sporty teenager. It was no wonder Xie Muqing had been in love with her for so many years.
“I heard Qinnian went to the wine cellar last night?”
Hearing the tremor in Xie Muqing’s voice, Song Ziqing’s heart skipped a beat. She looked back at the woman who was tightly clutching her silver dress, a forced smile on her face.
“I was looking for her.”
Lu Qinnian looked over curiously. Seeing the girl’s dishevelled state, a devious smile flitted across her lips before she said calmly, “Song Ziqing, stop talking nonsense. You’re just a kid who hasn’t even released pheromones yet. Why would you be looking for an Omega?”
Song Ziqing’s heart hammered. She glared at Lu Qinnian with fury. “Just because I haven’t released them doesn’t mean I can’t look!”
“It’s true that I’ve never smelled Qingqing’s pheromones before.” Xie Muqing forced a shy smile as she looked at the girl, then swept her gaze over her again. “What exactly are you doing in Qinnian’s room like this?”
Song Ziqing froze, and just as she was trying to think of an excuse, Lu Qinnian spoke up coolly. “Even if she isn’t a Lu by blood, we’ve lived together for so many years. Is it wrong for us to drop by each other’s rooms?”
Song Ziqing looked at Lu Qinnian in shock.
“No, no… that’s not it.” Xie Muqing, clearly displeased, quickly shook her head and looked back at Song Ziqing with a thin smile. “So, did Qingqing sleep with Qinnian last night?”
Song Ziqing’s heart skipped a beat. Lu Qinnian took a step forward and wrapped an arm around the stunned girl’s shoulders. Song Ziqing looked up at her in terror. “What are you doing?”
Lu Qinnian looked down, a fake smile playing on her lips as she watched Song Ziqing—who was clutching her towel for dear life. Lu Qinnian raised an eyebrow. “Why so fierce? You weren’t like this last night.”
Song Ziqing was stunned. She used her elbow to shove Lu Qinnian away and break free, giving her a sharp glare before turning to the flabbergasted Xie Muqing with a wide grin. “Unexpected, isn’t it? Even Lu Qinnian can tell a joke.”
Xie Muqing nodded mechanically. She looked at Lu Qinnian and gave a shaky smile. “Right… I’ve known her since we were kids, and this is the first time I’ve seen her take the initiative to hold someone. Qingqing, you’re amazing.”
Song Ziqing felt a chill. The phrase “Qingqing, you’re amazing” felt incredibly off. She reached out with a smile to take her clothes back, but Xie Muqing was gripping them too tightly.
“Sister Mu.”
Xie Muqing finally let go, laughing awkwardly. “Ah? Sorry about that.”
“It’s fine.” Song Ziqing grabbed her clothes and threw one last glare at Lu Qinnian—who was watching her with an ill-intentioned gaze before scurrying past Xie Muqing and fleeing back to her own room.
Meanwhile, Lu Ge had finally woken up from her hangover. Recalling how Lu Qinnian had appeared out of nowhere to ruin her fun the night before, she was furious and decided to go find her for a confrontation.
As she opened her door, she saw Song Ziqing running past her, clutching her dress and wrapped in a towel from Lu Qinnian’s room. The girl ducked into her own room in a suspicious rush.
Lu Ge blinked, thinking her eyes were playing tricks on her. She rubbed her eyes just as Lu Kui emerged from her own room, dressed in a black casual suit and wearing rimless glasses. Lu Kui gave her a look. “What are you staring at? Qingqing loves Lu Qinnian so much; it’s perfectly normal for her to sleep in her room.”
Lu Ge watched Lu Kui walk away, her mouth agape. Suddenly, her face went pale. “Holy crap! Is Lu Qinnian actually willing to share a top-tier Omega with Qingqing?!”
Lu Kui’s lips twitched as she looked back at the woman who was now jumping up and down in a rage. Lu Ge looked devastated, her face crumpling into a pout. “No wonder Qingqing disappeared last night too. Waaaah… Qingqing wouldn’t even share with me. She must hate me! Waaaah…”
Lu Kui rolled her eyes and slapped her own forehead in exasperation. Because Song Ziqing was the youngest, Lu Ge’s “sister complex” was off the charts. She adored the girl and always told everyone that Song Ziqing was the Lu family’s youngest daughter that was how much she loved her.
