- The Villain Turned Out to Be a Scummy Omega? [GL]
- Chapter 14 - You Aren't Angry, Are You?
The company cafeteria on the second floor grew lively in the afternoon. In the back kitchen, a strikingly dressed girl rolled up her shirt sleeves and stood by the sink, washing fruit.
Her silhouette was tall and slender. Pairing a high-slit maxi skirt with silver high heels, she looked as though she were attending a red-carpet event, yet here she was diligent and focused. Her movements as she washed, sliced, and plated the fruit were smooth and practiced, as if she were well-accustomed to the work.
It doesn’t matter what the job is; as long as it’s not a job you’re forced to do for survival, it’s never that unpleasant, Song Ziqing thought to herself.
She handed a plate of sliced fruit to an employee with a beaming smile. The employee looked a bit flattered, taking the fruit and stealing a few extra glances at her. They couldn’t help but think that even though she was a foster daughter, her beauty was certainly on par with the elite Alphas of the Lu family.
At that moment, a familiar face appeared. The newcomer smiled as she watched the girl turning back to slice more fruit. “Sister Qingqing.”
Song Ziqing turned around. Yan Hui was looking at her with a bright grin. “I want some too.”
Song Ziqing was momentarily stunned. This woman still hasn’t left.
Seeing her dazed expression, Yan Hui pointed at the pineapple nearby. “I want that one.”
Song Ziqing snapped out of it and handed over a plate of fruit, letting out a helpless laugh. “Don’t you have anything better to do?”
“It’s my birthday today; I’m taking a break.”
Yan Hui stood by the counter eating the fruit. “Wait until you finish work, then come home with me to celebrate my birthday.”
Song Ziqing laughed in disbelief. “I haven’t even prepared a gift.”
“It doesn’t matter. Just having you there is enough,” Yan Hui said softly, her gaze lingering on the girl.
Song Ziqing felt a pang of nervousness. In the original novel, Yan Hui was a woman of ruthless means—cold, detached, and exceptionally capable. The only difference between her and Lu Qinnian was that Yan Hui was even more cutthroat. Later in the story, she had manipulated Song Ziqing before discarding her without a moment’s hesitation.
However, Yan Hui was also a “sister complex” character who was incredibly good to her own sibling. Song Ziqing actually had a soft spot for this antagonist; as long as you weren’t her business rival, she was actually quite friendly.
Song Ziqing waved her hand, signaling for Yan Hui to move aside so the employees waiting in line could step up. As she handed out fruit, she looked at Yan Hui, who was still standing nearby munching on pineapple, and asked in surprise, “Wait a minute. This is the Lu family’s company cafeteria. You need a meal card to get in. How did you get one?”
“I have a card right here.” Yan Hui proudly pulled it out to show her. “Lu Ge gave it to me.”
Song Ziqing was shocked but then realized it made perfect sense. Lu Ge did everything based on her whims. She was probably bored and wanted to see the awkward sight of two arch-rivals, Yan Hui and Lu Qinnian, sitting together for a meal, so she handed over the card.
“Actually, Lu Ge and I get along quite well.” Yan Hui pocketed the card and smiled at Song Ziqing.
“The same goes for Lu Qinnian. She’s just a tsundere; in reality, she quite admires me.” Yan Hui spoke with a proud air, then added with a sigh, “And of course, I admire her professional competence as well.”
Song Ziqing glanced up at her while washing fruit. This was actually true; in the original plot, these two shared a mutual professional respect despite their constant bickering.
“By the way, Qingqing, is Lu Qinnian really making you work here?”
Song Ziqing hummed in response, carefully slicing an apple and popping a small piece into her own mouth. “There’s plenty of fresh fruit to eat.”
Yan Hui’s brow furrowed. “Do they not give you food at home? Is the Lu family actually mistreating you?!”
The few employees eating dinner in the cafeteria stole curious glances. This was truly bizarre. Why was the boss of a rival company using their meal card here? Why was the Lu family’s most pampered little sister working in the kitchen? And why did these two seem so incredibly familiar with each other?!
As the gossip spread, a group of people could be seen walking toward the cafeteria entrance.
The directors were chatting and laughing, clearly relieved that the meeting had ended peacefully. It was a rare moment of relaxation.
However, the second they stepped into the cafeteria, the atmosphere turned instantly combative. Lu Qinnian spotted Yan Hui immediately, and the employees in the room jumped in surprise.
Holy crap, are they going to fight?
Lu Qinnian walked toward Yan Hui with a cold expression, surprisingly being the first to speak. “Welcome, President Yan, to our company cafeteria. Please, do try the food.”
Her tone was slow and measured, but there wasn’t a hint of friendliness in her eyes. When her gaze fell upon Song Ziqing slicing fruit, her face turned a grim shade of ashen-green.
Yan Hui politely thanked her, then turned back to Song Ziqing with a tender expression. “Sister Qingqing, I want more.”
“More pineapple?” Song Ziqing asked, her movements looking very professional.
“Yes.” Yan Hui took the plate, giving her a gentle smile. “Pineapple sliced by Qingqing is always sweeter than anyone else’s.”
Lu Qinnian’s lips twitched. Looking at the two of them, she was already imagining kicking Yan Hui out of the building.
“Would President Lu like a taste? It really is very sweet,” Yan Hui boasted, continuing to eat.
Lu Qinnian ground her teeth in fury. “No thanks. I’ve grown tired of eating the fruit she slices for me at home.”
Song Ziqing froze, her expression turning resentful. “President Lu, please don’t talk nonsense. I have never specifically sliced fruit for you.”
“You…” Lu Qinnian’s fists clenched, her brow furrowing with displeasure. “Song Ziqing! You really are a scheming, fickle person. You were calling me ‘Niannian’ just a moment ago, and now it’s ‘President Lu’?”
Song Ziqing continued washing fruit, turning back with an innocent pout. “President Lu, I am just a fruit washer in the cafeteria. Of course I should call you President Lu.”
“…”
Seeing Lu Qinnian at a loss for words, Yan Hui burst out laughing. She used a toothpick to spear a piece of fruit and held it through the service window. “Qingqing is tired. Have a bite.”
Song Ziqing leaned over and ate the fruit from Yan Hui’s hand, nodding in approval. “Fruit fed by Sister Yan Hui herself is indeed very sweet.”
Lu Qinnian’s face turned an even deeper shade of green as she watched them with pure rage. “…”
Song Ziqing turned back, smiling at her. “Does President Lu want fruit too? If not, please move aside; you’re blocking the people behind you.”
Lu Qinnian looked back. The employees in line were so terrified by her expression that they stammered, “N-no, I don’t want any anymore.”
“Why is President Lu scaring people? You wouldn’t happen to be… angry, would you?” Song Ziqing asked with a look of feigned confusion as she continued plating fruit.
Yan Hui speared another piece and held it to the girl’s lips. “Eat up, Qingqing~”
Song Ziqing watched Lu Qinnian before biting into the pineapple Yan Hui offered. She looked at the woman with a grin. “What would President Lu like to eat?”
Lu Qinnian looked like she was on the verge of hitting someone. She glared at Song Ziqing, then at Yan Hui. “What exactly are you doing here?”
“Waiting for Qingqing to come home with me for my birthday. Is President Lu coming too?” Yan Hui asked.
