- The Venomous Wife Let Me Go
- Chapter 3 - What to Do When My Wife Loves Me Too Much (Part 3)
When Bai Jun woke up, it was already evening.
She had slept deeply, as if sinking into the warm depths of the ocean, undergoing a rejuvenating baptism. Her eyes were moist with warmth, yet she felt renewed strength coursing through her.
The moment she opened her eyes, she was met with Lin Song’s beautiful face.
“Don’t go!”
Seeing Lin Song, Bai Jun was reminded of the heartbreakingly beautiful scene in the movie where Lin Song had smiled and bid farewell. Instinctively, she grabbed Lin Song’s hand.
Her movement was so abrupt that it jostled the medical equipment attached to her, sending a sharp pain through her head. She couldn’t help but let out a soft “Ow.”
Lin Song was startled by her sudden action and quickly clasped Bai Jun’s hand in return, pulling her close and murmuring in a trembling voice, “I’m here, don’t worry!”
This flustered, tender demeanor was a far cry from the composed, decisive dance hall girl in the movie.
Bai Jun blinked, took a deep breath, and finally pulled herself out of the lingering emotions from the film.
A strange sense of déjà vu washed over her, a fleeting image flashed through her mind, as if she had once held someone’s hand and spoken the same words.
Lin Song continued to soothe her. Bai Jun could clearly see her own reflection in Lin Song’s eyes. The soft strands of Lin Song’s dark hair brushed against her cheeks, sending a faint, tingling sensation through her.
Lin Song’s embrace was warm, and the scent of her perfume was intoxicating gentle notes of magnolia and cedarwood, with a lingering hint of violet and musk that evoked sweet, unspoken fantasies.
Bai Jun instantly fell in love with the fragrance.
Her heartbeat quickened uncontrollably, pounding in her chest, and her cheeks grew warm.
This feeling left her unsettled.
She should have been more composed, more mature.
But right now, all she wanted was to hold Lin Song tight.
Burying her face near Lin Song’s ear, she took several deep breaths, then mustered up a pitiful excuse: “Wife, my head hurts so much. I just wanted to see you.”
If it had been her mother, such recklessness would have earned her a scolding. But if she played the sympathy card first, she could usually get away with it nine times out of ten.
Clearly, this tactic worked just as well on Lin Song.
Lin Song trembled slightly, her ears visibly reddening. Her voice wavered as she reached for the call button on the hospital bed,
“I’ll call the doctor right away.”
“No!” Bai Jun quickly stopped her, pouting as she looked up at Lin Song. “Just massage my head a little, that’ll be enough. I want to talk to you.”
Lin Song didn’t agree immediately.
She studied Bai Jun’s expression carefully, only relaxing when she saw Bai Jun blinking up at her with lively energy. Sitting by the head of the bed, she carefully avoided the bandages on Bai Jun’s head and gently pressed her fingertips against Bai Jun’s temples.
Lin Song’s cheeks were flushed, and she kept stealing glances at Bai Jun, her eyes once again clouded with the familiar hesitation Bai Jun recognized.
What was she thinking about?
Bai Jun pursed her lips was she unhappy about being forced to give up the career she loved?
“I sent Aunt Feng home,” Lin Song said softly. “From now on, she’ll come during the day, and I’ll stay with you at night.”
“I’ve also arranged for a nurse. She’ll start tomorrow.”
“The doctor said all your vitals are recovering well. You can try moving around a little in the next couple of days.”
Bai Jun was thoroughly enjoying this moment Lin Song’s perfume smelled amazing, her massage was incredibly soothing, and her voice was so tender.
Her wife was absolutely perfect in every way!
But a partnership should be a relationship where both parties are happy, and she also wanted to understand Lin Song’s thoughts.
“Darling, I watched the movie you starred in today.”
Bai Jun mustered her courage and looked at Lin Song as she asked, “Your acting is so good, why did you suddenly leave the industry?”
“Was it because of me?”
“Of course not.” Lin Song seemed a little surprised and shook her head in denial. “It has nothing to do with you. It was my own decision.”
“Don’t you regret it?”
Lin Song’s expression remained unreadable, so Bai Jun couldn’t help probing further. “The entertainment industry is incredibly lucrative, and so many people adore you.”
“If you were worried about me or my mother being unhappy, you really don’t need to.”
“I don’t regret it.” Lin Song looked at her, her eyes curving into a smile. “After acting for so many years, I was already exhausted.”
She seemed to sense Bai Jun’s concern and gently patted the back of her hand. “Jun Jun, even if you don’t believe me, you should at least believe in yourself.”
“Think about it with your personality, would you ever let me suffer?”
That was true.
Having witnessed the mess of her parents’ marriage, Bai Jun had never held any illusions about love.
Yet now, instead of entering a marriage of convenience, she had married Lin Song. That alone proved how deeply she must have loved Lin Song back then, willing to overcome all obstacles to be with her.
She had always been fiercely protective of those she cared about, of course she wouldn’t let Lin Song suffer.
“Well, if you ever want to return to acting, you have to tell me.”
Relieved to know she wasn’t the reason Lin Song had left the industry, Bai Jun still felt it was a shame. Unable to let it go, she added, “I’ll definitely invest in you when the time comes.”
“Jun Jun has already invested in me. I owe everything I have today to you.”
As she spoke, Lin Song gazed at her with that soft smile again, her eyes brimming with the tender affection Bai Jun was so familiar with.
Bai Jun considered herself thick-skinned, yet every time Lin Song looked at her with that electrifying gaze, her cheeks couldn’t help but grow warm.
Not wanting Lin Song to notice her fluster, Bai Jun averted her eyes.
“Anyway, if there’s anything that upsets you, you have to tell me.”
Bai Jun muttered under her breath, “You’re so beautiful, so sweet and understanding, I’m afraid someone might take advantage of you.”
“I know.”
Lin Song seemed to have no temper at all, agreeing to everything Bai Jun said with a smile.
Looking at this gentle, obedient version of Lin Song, Bai Jun suddenly understood her future self even more.
After just one day together, Bai Jun realized how much she adored Lin Song. In fact, anyone who spent time with Lin Song would inevitably fall for her.
A wife so beautiful, adorable, and deeply in love missing out on her would surely lead to a lifetime of regret. No wonder she had defied her mother’s arrangements to marry Lin Song.
Bai Jun couldn’t help but want to treat Lin Song even better.
“This accident must have worried you.”
Remembering Aunt Feng’s earlier words, Bai Jun couldn’t resist making another promise. “I’ll be more careful in the future, and we’ll live well together. I won’t make you sad.”
Lin Song let out a soft “Mm” and lowered her head again. She seemed to be suppressing something, her fingers trembling slightly as they rested on Bai Jun’s head.
Ah! Her wife really was like a timid little rabbit so delicate, so easily flustered.
Seeing Lin Song like this only made Bai Jun feel even more restless, her gaze wandering aimlessly.
Then she spotted the insulated lunchbox Lin Song had set aside.
“I’m a bit hungry,” she cleared her throat.
Lin Song immediately looked up. “I asked the housekeeper to prepare some easily digestible fish soup.”
While drinking the soup, Bai Jun suggested Lin Song turn on the TV. She felt she should act more mature and steady, quickly becoming Lin Song’s support. Originally, she intended to watch social or financial news, but before she could say anything, Lin Song had already turned on Detective Conan.
Who would have thought that discovering so many new episodes of an anime she had eagerly awaited as a child, counting the days for updates, could bring such joy!
Ahem, watching this kind of anime might actually help with memory recovery maybe she could even remember who the culprit was?
With that thought, Bai Jun felt like a mouse that had stumbled into a granary, so happy she lost all sense of direction. Her eyes glued to the screen, she finished the fish soup without even realizing it.
She was staying in a high-end private ward with its own bathroom. After tidying up the dishes, Lin Song went to change into her pajamas.
“I’ll be resting right here. Call me if you need anything.”
Lin Song had changed into cotton pajamas, removed her makeup, and let her hair down. Against the night’s backdrop, she looked even more delicate and pure.
“I might still have some work to handle. If it disturbs you, be sure to tell me” she added.
After changing, the pleasant scent of Lin Song’s perfume became even more noticeable.
“Don’t stay up too late working. If something can’t be handled, just leave it and rest. I’ll help you once I’m better,” Bai Jun said thoughtfully.
“By the way, I really love the perfume you’re wearing. Could you bring me a bottle tomorrow? The hospital smell is just awful.”
Bai Jun’s eyes remained fixed on the screen, not noticing Lin Song’s expression until she sensed the silence and finally looked up.
Lin Song’s expression seemed unchanged, but her eyes had suddenly grown bright, like twinkling stars in the sky.
“That perfume was blended by you. It’s the bestselling ‘S’ Series No. 01 fragrance from the company’s production line.”
” I’m that amazing?”
Bai Jun couldn’t help but widen her eyes.
She had always had a keen sense of smell but had little interest in business affairs, disliking the cunning tactics of commerce. Initially, she had studied perfumery to understand the family business but gradually grew to love the craft.
“You’re a very accomplished perfumer now,” Lin Song said, her smile growing even gentler.
Bai Jun swallowed hard. If she had a tail, she felt she’d be wagging it to the sky!
The 27-year-old version of herself was practically living the dream!
Owning a company was one thing that was expected but to also have such a beautiful wife and be involved in commercial perfumery production.
And her mother had actually allowed her to pursue perfumery.
Bai Jun was overjoyed, feeling as if everything was a dream.
And Lin Song seemed just as happy.
For the rest of the evening, whenever Bai Jun glanced over, she could see the corners of Lin Song’s lips curled upward.
Why does she look even happier than I am?
Bai Jun was puzzled until a commercial break brought sudden clarity.
The “S” stood for “Song,” the first letter of Lin Song’s name.
This perfume, a symbol of romance, must have been a gift she had created for Lin Song. That’s why she had named it after the initial of Lin Song’s name.
I was actually this romantic!
Suddenly feeling a little embarrassed, Bai Jun didn’t dare look at Lin Song anymore.
The usually captivating plot on the television couldn’t hold Bai Jun’s attention at all her mind was completely filled with the image of Lin Song’s gentle smile.
Such an adorable and beautiful woman was her wife!
Just thinking about it filled Bai Jun’s heart with overwhelming sweetness. If happiness had a physical form, she felt like she’d be floating in a cloud of pink bubbles right now.
This must be what true happiness feels like!
Unable to resist, Bai Jun stole several glances at Lin Song: a beloved partner by her side, a favorite drama playing in the background.
She wished this moment could stretch on forever.
