- The Venomous Wife Let Me Go
- Chapter 1 - What to Do When My Wife Loves Me Too Much (Part 1)
When Bai Jun woke up, she was greeted by the pungent smell of disinfectant.
Her head was spinning, and her vision was blurred with flickering lights. The incessant beeping of medical equipment filled the air.
“Although Miss Bai is temporarily out of critical condition, her situation remains unstable and she can’t handle any stimulation…”
As her blurred vision gradually cleared, the first thing she saw was a white lab coat.
The doctor stood with his back to her, speaking to a woman. Bai Jun caught fragments of the conversation words like “suffered” and “cooperate.”
From her angle, Bai Jun could clearly see the woman’s profile.
She wore a sleek, tailored black suit, her skin fair and luminous. Her nose was high-bridged, her jawline exquisitely defined, and her neck long and graceful, like that of a proud, elegant swan.
Bai Jun didn’t recognize her, yet she felt inexplicably familiar.
Was this the beautiful secretary her grandfather had recently hired?
Her mother hadn’t lied, this secretary sister was stunning! She practically glowed…
Bai Jun couldn’t help but marvel inwardly.
In her memory, she was still 12 years old, having just finished her elementary school graduation exams. Her mother had abruptly woken her up early that morning and sent her off to her grandfather’s house for the summer.
She hadn’t been thrilled her mother was always traveling for work, and they rarely had time together. But her mother had coaxed her, saying her grandfather had hired a beautiful new secretary who would take her out to play. Besides, her mother had seemed unusually anxious and promised a mountain vacation once she returned. So Bai Jun had reluctantly agreed.
But shouldn’t she be at her grandfather’s house right now? How had she ended up in the hospital?
Bai Jun tried to recall what had happened, but the moment she attempted to remember, a sharp pain shot through her head, nearly knocking her unconscious again.
Bai Jun had always been sensitive to pain, and beads of sweat quickly formed on her forehead. She closed her eyes to steady herself, then decided to just ask the doctor directly. When she opened her eyes again, her gaze met the woman’s.
“She’s awake!”
The woman’s voice trembled with excitement.
From the front, the woman’s beauty was even more breathtaking radiant and delicate, like the moon itself.
She looked exhausted, her face slightly haggard, which only accentuated her fragile, ethereal aura like a lone, stubborn flower standing resilient in the cold wind and rain.
So beautiful.
Bai Jun’s cheeks warmed, and she instinctively lowered her gaze, her heart suddenly pounding like a startled fawn.
This feeling was so strange.
She’d have to tell her grandfather later when she grew up, she wanted this gorgeous sister to be her secretary too.
Realizing she might not see the beauty again anytime soon, Bai Jun lifted her head for another glance.
The woman’s expression was indescribably complex.
When their eyes met, the woman seemed to try to smile, but the corners of her lips only quivered before her eyes slowly reddened,
“Ah! Secretary sister, d-don’t cry!”
Bai Jun was startled.
The sight of the beautiful woman on the verge of tears was utterly heartbreaking.
Bai Jun’s brows furrowed tightly, her chest constricting as if gripped by an invisible hand,
“I’m fine, see?”
If not for the tangle of medical equipment immobilizing her, Bai Jun would have leapt up and thumped her chest to prove it,
“I can’t remember how I ended up here, but don’t worry.”
Bai Jun declared earnestly, “If Grandpa blames you, I’ll definitely plead on your behalf!”
Having heard that her grandfather managed the company with an iron fist, this beautiful sister must have had a hard time under his rule, which explained why she was so frightened.
And Bai Jun’s words of comfort indeed had an effect.
The beautiful sister stopped crying.
She swayed slightly, her eyes widening as she stared at Bai Jun, a whirlwind of emotions flashing through her gaze as if she had been struck by a tremendous shock. Even the doctor couldn’t help but turn to look.
“You, you don’t recognize me?”
–
“Miss Bai, your brain has suffered damage, resulting in the loss of all memories from after the age of 12.”
“The brain is the most complex and delicate organ in the human body. At this point, we cannot say for certain whether you will regain your memories in the future.”
After a series of examinations and inquiries, half a day later, Bai Jun received the doctor’s diagnosis.
Bai Jun gave a quiet “Mm,” watching the doctor leave, too afraid to lift her head.
She had already looked in the mirror.
The reflection showed a face both familiar and strange.
The face was wrapped in bandages, its delicate features bearing some resemblance to her mother’s. The figure was slender, the skin slightly pale.
In short, it was far more beautiful than Bai Jun had imagined.
At 12, Bai Jun had noticeable baby fat on her cheeks. Her mother, worried she might eat too much and ruin her figure, strictly controlled her diet. Bai Jun never imagined that at 27, she would be this slim.
Everything aligned roughly with what she had envisioned at 12 by 27, she would be capable of sharing her mother’s burdens, inheriting the family business, wealthy and beautiful.
She also learned the reason for her hospitalization.
Her grandfather had passed away recently.
After his death, her mother, grief-stricken and in poor health, had gone abroad with her father to recuperate, leaving the duty of paying respects at the grave to Bai Jun.
No one could have predicted that Bai Jun would be involved in a car accident on her way back from the cemetery.
Fortunately, Lin Song, who had been in the passenger seat, got her to the hospital in time, saving her life.
The police were currently investigating the cause of the accident. The hit-and-run driver had fled and concealed their tracks with alarming skill, leading authorities to suspect it might have been a premeditated murder…
All of this was told to her by Lin Song.
Lin Song was the stunning beauty she had seen upon waking.
After realizing Bai Jun had lost her memory, Lin Song quickly composed herself, soothing Bai Jun gently and explaining her current situation…
Bai Jun actually adjusted quite well to her appearance and circumstances.
Though the idea that someone might want to kill her was bizarre and terrifying, she was safe in the hospital for now. And since she had no memory, she couldn’t speculate about the culprit’s identity, she could only be extra cautious.
The reason she kept her head bowed, too afraid to look up, was that she didn’t know how to face Lin Song.
At 12, Bai Jun had imagined many things about her grown-up self, but she had never dreamed she would marry Lin Song!
Yet Lin Song had shown her their marriage certificate, they had indeed gotten married half a year ago.
According to the doctor, Lin Song had stayed by her side in the hospital day and night, and it was thanks to her meticulous care that Bai Jun had woken up at all.
She believed Lin Song was deeply important to her: the moment she saw her, she felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity and trust, an instinctive bond.
Such a stunning beauty had married her and was so devoted to her, which proved that at 27, she was not only successful in her career but also possessed immense personal charm!
Because of this, Bai Jun couldn’t help but feel uneasy: she had no memories of Lin Song and couldn’t exhibit the grace and charm of her 27-year-old self. She was afraid that over time, Lin Song would become disappointed in her.
Such a good wife, who wouldn’t abandon her even in life-and-death situations, must be cherished and protected, she couldn’t afford to ruin Lin Song’s impression of her…
Moreover, the driver who had tried to kill her was still at large, she had lost her memories, and her parents were abroad. For now, she had to rely entirely on Lin Song for everything.
“Have some congee. You just woke up, your stomach can’t handle anything too heavy.”
Lin Song had escorted the doctor out of the ward and returned with a thermal lunchbox in hand.
Her caregiving manner was practiced and meticulous.
She carefully washed her hands, raised the bed’s backrest, first fed Bai Jun a few spoonfuls of water to moisten her mouth, then scooped up some congee, blew on it to cool it, tested the temperature, and only then carefully brought the spoon to Bai Jun’s lips.
Bai Jun lowered her head, obediently taking small sips.
The ward was very quiet. During the meal, Lin Song’s phone rang several times, but she didn’t even glance at it, simply silencing the calls.
Lin Song seemed incredibly busy.
While the medical staff examined Bai Jun, she frequently stepped into the hallway to take calls or opened her laptop to work outside.
Bai Jun’s impression of her mother was much the same, always buried under endless work, often away on business trips.
Her mother’s health had also deteriorated over time, constantly relying on various medications…
Adults were always like this so many urgent matters in life that their own well-being ended up last on the list.
Bai Jun was full before long.
“W-wife… thank you for taking care of me all this time.”
Not wanting Lin Song to exhaust herself and also hoping for some alone time to slowly recover her memories, Bai Jun spoke up as she watched Lin Song pack up the lunchbox.
“I’m awake now, and there probably won’t be any major issues from here on. You can just hire a nurse to look after me. Go home and rest properly, I don’t want you to overwork yourself.”
She wasn’t sure how to address Lin Song. Using her name felt too distant, so after some thought, Bai Jun decided to call her “wife.”
This was also a subtle way to tell Lin Song even without her memories, she was still happy that Lin Song was her wife.
However, perhaps due to lack of practice, when the word “wife” left her lips, Bai Jun couldn’t help but feel her mouth go dry and her ears burn red.
As she spoke, she secretly studied Lin Song’s expression.
Lin Song’s reaction was stronger than she had expected.
Lin Song lifted her gaze, her lashes trembling slightly, and her hands, which had been tidying the dishes, visibly shook. Her fingers tightened around the bowl.
“Jun Jun, I… I can’t rest easy.”
After a pause, Lin Song finally packed up the dishes, giving her a deep look before speaking in a strained tone.
Bai Jun had already prepared for this.
She blinked and met Lin Song’s gaze, flashing a bright, eight-toothed smile.
“Come on, wife! I know you’re worried about me, but I’m an adult now. You have to trust that I can take care of myself…”
This was her usual tactic with her mother. Though her mother was strict, acting sweet and coaxing always softened her.
Since Lin Song hadn’t outright refused, there was clearly room for negotiation. Bai Jun decided to press her advantage.
Meeting her smile, Lin Song’s gaze lingered for another moment, staring at her intently as if momentarily dazed.
“I’ll think about it.”
Lin Song seemed to realize her own awkwardness, pressing her lips together slightly, her eyelashes trembling faintly before she lowered her eyes again.
If Lin Song had been as fiery and direct as her mother, Bai Jun would have had plenty of ways to handle it. But now, faced with Lin Song’s fragile and docile demeanor, Bai Jun found herself at a loss, turning her head away with a hint of bashfulness.
A giddy feeling spread uncontrollably in her heart Lin Song seemed to really like her! The way she had just looked at her was so full of affection…
“I still want to stay with you.”
After a while, Lin Song finally raised her head, her tone restrained as she continued.
“For now, I can’t bear to have you out of my sight. The culprit is still lurking in the shadows. When that out-of-control truck came at us, you could have dodged it, but you chose to shield me instead, taking the hit head-on…”
As expected, Lin Song was carrying a heavy burden of guilt…
Lin Song’s eyes were beautiful, like a tranquil pool of water, yet the way she looked at Bai Jun was always tinged with a struggle Bai Jun couldn’t quite decipher.
Ah!
It was all because grown-up Bai Jun was just too charming, that’s why her wife was so clingy and insecure…
Bai Jun couldn’t help but grin, cutting Lin Song off,
“Wife, we’re legally married!”
This time, when she called her “wife,” Bai Jun’s voice was much more confident, her eyes bright: “As your spouse, protecting you is my duty.”
“You really don’t need to feel guilty about this. Everything I do for you is of my own free will.”
“I’ll do my best to remember everything!”
Bai Jun had always been smooth with words, and seeing Lin Song’s suddenly tense posture and increasingly complicated gaze, she couldn’t resist making a promise: “Even if my memories never come back, I’ll still work hard to become stronger, to protect you!”
“I see how much you care for me, and I swear I’ll treat you well from now on. You’ll always be my beloved wife!”
