The Vampire Tycoon Secretly Loves Me - Chapter 2
“If I haven’t guessed wrong, the two of you must be Blood Hunters, right?” Ye Linghan’s voice drifted out slowly.
The young man halted his steps, turning his head to look at Ye Linghan warily. From start to finish, he had never revealed his identity, so he was bewildered as to how the other man knew.
Seeing his tense expression, Ye Linghan couldn’t help but let out a laugh. It was hard to tell who was actually the one under arrest.
“I’m not stupid. Don’t look at me with those eyes,” Ye Linghan protested against the strange gaze the young man was throwing his way.
“Ordinary police officers don’t carry that many magical treasures. It’s obvious your identities aren’t exactly common,” Ye Linghan continued talking to himself when he saw the other party remained silent.
Back when he was first caught, he had noticed the young man holding a disc-like object. The police believe in science; they would never use such occult items, so it wasn’t difficult to guess.
The young man didn’t respond. He simply nudged him along into a small room, similar to a police interrogation room. The girl who had been with them followed inside as well.
Ye Linghan’s composure made it seem as though this wasn’t his first time being caught; rather, he felt like a seasoned veteran. However, his personality had always been like this—calm and decisive when facing trouble.
The young man handcuffed Ye Linghan’s hands to the table, then he and the girl sat opposite him, staring at Ye Linghan.
Ye Linghan felt somewhat helpless at their silence. “Brother, even arresting someone requires evidence. I don’t even know who you are, yet I’ve been dragged here.” He leaned forward, looking entirely like a profligate playboy. “Could it be that this is a ‘black-eat-black’ situation and you’re looking to silence a witness?”
The latter half of his sentence was pure nonsense.
“You guessed right. I am indeed a member of the Blood Hunters. So? Do you want to choose to confess for leniency?” The young man finally spoke, his voice cold.
His words made Ye Linghan laugh out of pure frustration; it was truly that kind of laugh one gives when they are utterly speechless.
He retorted, “What exactly do you want me to confess?” He clearly hadn’t done anything, yet he was being cuffed here.
“Besides, where’s the evidence? How do I know you’re a real Blood Hunter and not just a fraud out to swindle people?”
Slap— An identification card was slammed onto the table in front of Ye Linghan by the young man.
Ye Linghan cast his eyes down. Below the photo of the young man, the ID read: Secret Intelligence Investigation Bureau — Su Mo.
Another ID handed over by the girl read: Secret Intelligence Investigation Bureau — Yao Qingluan.
The IDs were retracted.
Immediately, Su Mo leaned forward, narrowing his eyes as he keenly captured a hint of something unusual. At the same time, Yao Qingluan also seemed to notice something; she leaned over and whispered into Su Mo’s ear, “Brother, look at his neck.”
Su Mo nodded and replied in a low voice, “Mhm, I see it.”
They spoke very softly, and since there was a distance between them and Ye Linghan, he couldn’t hear them clearly.
“Why were you there at that time? What did you do to that person?” Su Mo asked Ye Linghan.
Ye Linghan spread his hands, though his range of motion was limited and the posture was uncomfortable. “If I said I was just passing by, would you believe me?”
Judging by the expressions of the two in front of him, they clearly didn’t.
“So how am I supposed to prove I’m not the killer? Is there a possibility that I am also a victim?” Ye Linghan countered. “Moreover, why don’t you check the surveillance footage?”
Even in the dark of night, it would be enough to testify for him.
But Su Mo merely exchanged a glance with Yao Qingluan; the expressions on their faces revealed nothing of what they were thinking.
In the past, once Ye Linghan woke up from a dream, it was very difficult for him to fall back asleep. This time was an exception; after all the commotion, he was feeling a bit drowsy. He stared at the two people in front of him and let out a massive yawn.
Yao Qingluan was writing furiously at her station, while Su Mo continued to speak, though he didn’t answer Ye Linghan’s second question. “But you were the only one at the scene. We found this place based on the compass, and this compass only tracks Vampires.”
Hearing this, Ye Linghan was momentarily at a loss for words.
He let out a heavy sigh. The Blood Hunter families had stayed hidden from the world for so many years; how was it that when they finally came out, they sent two such brainless fools…
Without exaggeration, Ye Linghan had practically shared a bed with a high-level Vampire boss for many years. His understanding of the Blood Tribe was, frankly, greater than many members of the new generation of Blood Hunters.
This naturally included the “compass” Su Mo mentioned.
Regarding the compass, Ye Linghan’s bedmate had mentioned it to him before. Therefore, he immediately realized that these two were not proficient in using the item; they were merely following a script, blindly researching based on the ways of the older generation.
“Perhaps—and I’m just saying there’s a possibility—Vampires can hide their own scent? So, is it possible that finding us via the compass was just a coincidence?” Ye Linghan tentatively offered his opinion, trying his best not to expose his own identity.
After all this tossing and turning, the sky outside had begun to turn the color of a fish’s belly, but the interrogation room had no windows. Even the single lamp was very dim, making the whole room feel gray and somewhat oppressive.
“How do you know about these things?”
What was supposed to be a serious interrogation session had turned into Ye Linghan giving them a makeshift science lesson.
“I’ve just heard some people talk about it. I don’t know if it’s true or false; it’s just for your reference.” He didn’t have the standing to say too much, so he kept his words vague.
Sitting across from Ye Linghan, Su Mo—who had been expressionless—curled the corner of his mouth into a slight arc. It made Ye Linghan feel a bit uneasy, unsure of what the man was thinking.
Su Mo leaned back, adopting a relaxed posture as he said faintly, “Could it be that the person who bit your neck told you that?”
The sudden remark caught Ye Linghan completely off guard.
Bit? Bit his neck? A sensation like an electric current surged through Ye Linghan’s cerebral cortex. He subconsciously wanted to reach up and touch his neck, but his fair wrists were restrained by the handcuffs. Instead, he was jerked sharply, causing his body to sway.
He cursed secretly in his heart. Usually, after that person bit him, he would help lick the wound until it healed. This time, because that person was away on a business trip and hadn’t been by Ye Linghan’s side for many days, he had left a wound on his neck as if intentionally marking him.
This situation hadn’t been unheard of before. In the past, Ye Linghan would remember to put a band-aid over the bite mark to hide it before going out. But this time, he had been a bit careless when leaving the house; he never expected to run into such a situation during a midnight stroll, so he had just headed downstairs without thinking about the lingering bite mark on his neck.
He had truly underestimated how sharp-eyed these two were…
But since he had been found out, Ye Linghan decided not to pretend anymore and simply let it all out. “So, you see, I’m also one of the victims. I’m not a vampire at all. I’ve been so wronged…”
After he finished, he looked confidently at Su Mo sitting opposite him, thinking to himself: Surely they’ll believe me now.
However, to Ye Linghan’s surprise, Su Mo frowned, thought for a long time, and then squeezed a sentence through his teeth: “Perhaps this is some kind of ‘flirting’ between you Vampires?”
Flirting, my ass…
How did the Patriarch of the Blood Hunters let someone this brainless graduate and enter the world?
Ye Linghan was simply exasperated.
But thinking carefully, he couldn’t entirely blame the guy. After all, the kid was inexperienced and hadn’t been bitten. Anyone who had been bitten and experienced that strange sensation wouldn’t think of it as “flirting.”
For the next period of time, a drowsy Ye Linghan was repeatedly questioned by Su Mo. But since he hadn’t done it, he hadn’t done it. No matter how the other party asked, they couldn’t find a single flaw.
Suddenly, a phone rang abruptly in the empty room. Su Mo took his phone out of his pocket and glanced at it, then gestured with his eyes to Yao Qingluan as they walked out of the interrogation room.
During this time, Ye Linghan rested his forehead against his arms, which were flat on the table, to take a nap.
“Hey.” Su Mo walked back in after finishing the call. Seeing Ye Linghan out cold from exhaustion, he used his foot to lightly kick the table with a touch of politeness.
Ye Linghan was jolted awake. He raised his head, a hint of blurriness in his eyes. “What’s up? Intermission over? Starting the second half?”
He had become numb to being interrogated.
Contrary to the expected second round of questioning, Su Mo spoke slowly: “You can go. The police officer stationed at the hospital just called me. He said the injured person woke up, and after seeing your photo, he confirmed it wasn’t you who hurt him.”
Ye Linghan felt a sense of admiration; that vampire had covered his face quite tightly, so it was no easy feat for the victim to have seen his features clearly.
However, Ye Linghan didn’t say any of this out loud. After all, there was no need to look for unnecessary trouble, especially since he had already wasted so much of his time.
Ye Linghan forced a slight smile and lifted his hands. The chains made a clatter-clatter sound. “So, can you unlock these for me?”
Su Mo took out the key and unlocked Ye Linghan’s handcuffs. In an instant, Ye Linghan felt his hands were free. Without the weight of the shackles, he moved his stiff and reddened wrists, preparing to stand up and walk out.
Before he could stand up straight, Ye Linghan suddenly felt a weight on his shoulder, and he was pushed back into his seat.
“Hmm?” Ye Linghan was puzzled, turning his head to look at Su Mo.
Could he be regretting it?
“You can go back, but you need a family member to bail you out,” Su Mo said faintly.
Ye Linghan: “???”
What did that mean? The victim had already confirmed he wasn’t the one, so why did his family need to come? Most importantly, he had been an orphan since childhood; where was he supposed to get “family”? Could he really call that person? But he was on a business trip and couldn’t possibly rush back just for him…
Su Mo looked down at Ye Linghan. Thinking he hadn’t heard clearly, he repeated what he had just said: “Didn’t you hear me? Or do you not understand? Have your family come and pick you up.”
Ye Linghan was helpless, but fortunately, he had the butler’s number saved in his phone; otherwise, it would have been quite difficult. “Oh, I heard you. I just didn’t expect you guys to have this kind of requirement.”
Su Mo didn’t offer much explanation, and Ye Linghan didn’t ask further, only thinking about resolving this quickly to go home. “But my phone was confiscated by you guys. How am I supposed to contact them?”
He spread his hands with an innocent look.
Ye Linghan had been raised by the butler since he was a child. Coupled with that person’s instructions, everyone treated him like a normal human being rather than a blood slave—because in the eyes of the Blood Tribe, the status of a blood slave was extremely low.
Su Mo handed over a phone, his voice coming from above: “Use mine.”
Ye Linghan subconsciously countered, “Why?”
“There is no ‘why.’ It’s the rule.” His tone was firm and left no room for argument.
Ye Linghan had no choice but to take the phone and dial the butler’s number. After briefly explaining the situation, he hung up and returned the phone to Su Mo.
“Alright, sorry to trouble you to wait here for a while. You’ll be released once someone arrives.” The young man turned to walk out.
Seeing this, Ye Linghan felt quite disgruntled. They had arrested the wrong person, interrogated him for so long, wasted so much time, and now it felt like he was being intentionally made difficult. Consequently, he was quite angry.
“What kind of rule is this? You guys failed in your duties and caught the wrong person, and yet you want me to wait here?” Ye Linghan wasn’t being polite at all, venting his grievances on the spot.
Staying in a confined space for a long time inevitably leads to irritability. This is likely why interrogation rooms generally have no windows and are small spaces surrounded by walls; in most cases, they can break a criminal’s psychological defenses in a very short time.
Just then, Yao Qingluan walked in from outside, carrying a cup of water. She placed it in front of Ye Linghan and said, “I’m sorry. Because our current location is quite small and we don’t have a reception room, we have to ask you to wait here for a moment. Please forgive us.”
As the saying goes, one doesn’t hit a smiling face. Since she was being so polite—and she was a girl—the fire in Ye Linghan’s heart dissipated by half.
Forget it. He had already endured for so long; a little while longer wouldn’t hurt.
Ye Linghan waited bored in the room for a long time until the door to the interrogation room was pushed open. Ye Linghan looked up excitedly, but when he saw the person standing outside the door, his body turned stiff.
A tall and well-proportioned young man with deep, soulful eyes stood at the door. His white wolf-tail hair fell loosely over his shoulders, and an earring shaped like a wing adorned his earlobe. He looked a bit travel-worn the moment he entered, but even so, it couldn’t hide the noble aura radiating from him.
Ye Linghan’s lips moved, but because of the shock, the words he wanted to say were stuck in his throat, and he couldn’t make a sound.
The white-haired man, however, was quite calm, his voice cold and crisp. “What? Haven’t seen me for a few days, and you don’t recognize me anymore?”
Behind him followed two spectators eager for gossip.
Ye Linghan blinked, his eyes full of astonishment. He never imagined that the Vampire Prince who had intentionally left the hickey on his neck. Yin Chen would suddenly appear before him like this.
