The Ultra-Alpha School Hunk Has Transmigrated into a Cannon Fodder Omega! - Chapter 3
After Jiang Mosen explained the situation in a few words, the boy rubbed his buzz cut sheepishly. “I misunderstood. The rumors outside were so exaggerated that I actually believed them.”
“Wang Hao, you actually believed that gossip? Are you serious?” Bai Yu said.
Wang Hao apologized immediately. “Brother Bai, do not be angry. This was my mistake. I apologize. How about I treat you to a meal?”
Bai Yu let out a cold snort. “I have no interest in eating with you.” He paused for a moment before lowering his voice. “Anyway, does anyone else know that the Omega in heat was me?”
Wang Hao quickly replied, “Everyone was away from the teaching building at noon. I heard the only few people present were chased away, so they have no idea what that Omega looked like.”
Bai Yu finally breathed a sigh of relief and added a threat, “If you dare to tell anyone about this, I will…” He made a throat-slitting gesture.
Wang Hao raised his hand to swear an oath. “I promise I will never say a word. If I do, may I only match with ‘pig teammates’ in games for the rest of my life, may my instant noodles never have seasoning packets, and may the only hats I wear be green!”
Bai Yu glanced at him with a hint of admiration. “You are quite ruthless toward yourself.”
Wang Hao smiled. “I am just trying to put your mind at ease. With Brother Jiang and Ji Cenzhou here as witnesses, I would never dare to speak of it.” He then added curiously, “The three of you seem to have a pretty good relationship.”
As soon as Wang Hao finished speaking, Ji Cenzhou put on an “we are not close” expression and turned back around without saying a word.
Jiang Mosen looked at Ji Cenzhou’s slightly long hair. The black strands made his skin appear even fairer. He chuckled and said meaningfully, “I saw something of Ji Cenzhou’s that I should not have seen, so he is a little angry with me.”
Ji Cenzhou snapped his head back, his eyes wide and round. He puffed out his cheeks with a fierce expression, but because his features were so delicate and cute, the look only made him appear uniquely adorable.
“You promised me you would never tell anyone!” Ji Cenzhou gritted his teeth.
Seeing that Ji Cenzhou was angry enough to slam the table, Jiang Mosen smiled and purposefully put on a look of surprise. “When did I ever promise not to tell anyone that I saw your report card?”
“Report card?” Ji Cenzhou blinked. “What report card?”
“Did the Dean not ask me to help you with your studies? He showed me your report card. You were not there at the time, so I did not have your permission.”
Ji Cenzhou finally realized he had been played. He glared at Jiang Mosen, who looked calm and even a bit innocent, as if he were not the one who had just teased him. Ji Cenzhou thought to himself that this novel’s protagonist was indeed impressive; his schemes and intelligence were actually a match for his own.
“You are quite sharp-tongued, are you not?” Ji Cenzhou mocked.
Jiang Mosen’s gaze flickered across Ji Cenzhou’s lips before he looked away. “Not as sharp as yours.”
Seeing Jiang Mosen suddenly back down, Ji Cenzhou was surprised. He followed up with, “As long as you know. Do not get too arrogant.”
Jiang Mosen smiled, looking as elegant as a refined gentleman. He said meaningfully, “If I get the chance, I would like to experience just how formidable you are.”
A string snapped in Ji Cenzhou’s mind. This guy was issuing a challenge! If he backed down now, he would not be a man.
“Just you wait. Next time, I will definitely show you what I am capable of!”
“I look forward to it. Remember not to go easy on me then,” Jiang Mosen replied. He then let out a laugh. He wondered what was wrong with him; he felt so roguish he almost wanted to report himself to the police.
After school, Ji Cenzhou went home. His house was located in a cluster of low-rise residential buildings. The buildings were dilapidated and covered in a layer of greasy grime. As he drew closer, he could hear a resident shouting, “Where is my soy sauce?! Which scoundrel took my soy sauce?!”
He looked up at the building, wondering if it was even safe to live in. He found it difficult to accept. Before transmigrating, he was a wealthy second-generation heir who had never lacked money or seen how the poor lived. If it were his past self, he would have never believed he would end up in a place like this.
He lingered at the entrance, not quite daring to go up. By now, he had fully integrated the original owner’s memories. To treat his father’s illness, the family had spent all their savings. After the breadwinner passed away, the original owner’s mother, who was physically weak, worked in a flower shop to make ends meet. Life for a widow and her son was extremely difficult, and they had lived here for nearly ten years.
More than the environment, Ji Cenzhou was afraid of meeting the original owner’s mother. Despite the hardships, this seemingly soft woman had stayed strong to support the family. She gave the original owner the best she could and was always gentle with him, regardless of the grievances she faced outside.
Ji Cenzhou did not know how to face Mother Ji because he had never met his own mother. He had been told his mother died during childbirth, and his father was always busy with work. He had grown up alone in a cold villa and had even been mistreated by a nanny. He had never felt familial affection or motherly love and had no idea how to act. He was afraid that if he were too stiff, Mother Ji would realize her son was gone, which would break her heart.
“Cenzhou is back!” a sharp-tongued woman carrying groceries shouted. “You silly child, why are you loitering here? Your mother has been stewing ribs for you since she got back this afternoon. The smell is so good that the whole building wants to visit your house!” She reached out and patted Ji Cenzhou’s back.
The force nearly made him spit out a mouthful of blood.
“Hello, Auntie Wang,” Ji Cenzhou greeted her in the original owner’s manner.
“Haha, good, good! You are such a well-behaved child. If my son were even half as good as you, I would be satisfied,” Auntie Wang laughed heartily. “Alright, go on in. I need to prepare dinner for my husband too.”
Though he was not mentally prepared, Ji Cenzhou found himself standing in front of the door. He knocked.
“Coming,” a gentle female voice replied.
The door opened. Mother Ji was a very gentle and beautiful Beta. When she saw her son, she took his backpack and smiled. “Go wash your hands quickly. I made your favorite ribs.”
Ji Cenzhou nodded and looked around the home. Though small, it was well-kept and filled with a warm atmosphere. After washing his hands, he saw that the meal was already on the table. The only meat dish was placed right next to his bowl, while Mother Ji had a plate of stir-fried cabbage.
During the meal, Mother Ji kept placing ribs into Ji Cenzhou’s bowl. She only ate a few pieces herself after he insisted. She talked about interesting things from the flower shop, sharing only the good news and avoiding the bad while checking in on him.
Watching her busy figure in the kitchen after dinner, Ji Cenzhou touched his chest. Was this what motherly love felt like? The ribs were good, but they could not compare to the food from his private chef. The dishes were simple and the environment modest, yet it felt incredibly comfortable and heartwarming. He could feel how much the original owner loved his mother. Perhaps influenced by those memories, Ji Cenzhou’s heart softened completely.
Suddenly, Mother Ji crouched down while washing dishes. Ji Cenzhou was startled and rushed over. “Mom, is your heart bothering you again?”
Mother Ji had fallen ill from overwork. A few years ago, she was diagnosed with a minor heart issue. It was not terminal and could be managed with medicine, but the medication was expensive. The illness had been dragged out for years and had worsened recently.
She was covered in a cold sweat but smiled weakly to comfort him. “It is nothing. It just felt uncomfortable for a moment. I am fine now. It is just a minor ailment, do not worry.”
Ji Cenzhou knew it was not minor. If it were, she would not have been hospitalized in critical condition a few years later. His eyes felt unusually sore. He knew that even with a new soul, this body still felt the pain of its mother. Since he was now the Ji Cenzhou of this world, he had to take on the responsibility.
He thought for a moment and said, “Mom, did you not buy a house in full for Grandma and Grandpa years ago? They do not live there now. Since we are struggling, why don’t we use that house to help with our current situation?”
Mother Ji’s smile turned pale for a second. She struggled to maintain her composure and said, “I tried, but your grandmother said no. I felt too ashamed to keep asking.”
Ji Cenzhou snorted inwardly. Mother Ji had terrible parents. If not for her feelings, he would not even want to call them his grandparents.
“I will go with you this weekend then,” Ji Cenzhou said.
Mother Ji hesitated. “Will it interfere with your studies?”
Ji Cenzhou smiled. “School just started; we haven’t learned much yet.”
She was still hesitant, and Ji Cenzhou knew why. She was afraid he would be mistreated along with her. He said firmly, “It is decided. Go rest now, Mom. I will finish the dishes.”
After helping her to her bedroom, he cleaned the dishes as best as he could. Though he was not used to it, it was manageable. Afterward, he returned to his room and reflected on how strange life was. He had never worried about money his entire life, yet here he was.
The original owner did have a way to make money, and the hourly rate was not low, but it was a bit and Ji Cenzhou thought about the situation and his mouth twitched.
