Chapter 1: Dying Immediately After Transmigrating
Luojia felt a brutal kick to his back. The piercing pain made him gasp for air.
Opening his eyes, he saw a fierce-looking man with a face full of fleshy scars glaring down at him.
What’s going on?
He felt a pair of rough, oversized hands fumbling over every inch of his body.
“Nothing! Tsk, what bad luck! Damned piece of trash! The thing isn’t here! Boss, what now?!”
“He’s useless. Kill him.”
Luojia felt himself being hoisted up by the throat.
Crack.
A surge of violent pain followed. Luojia’s throat filled with a metallic liquid that flowed back into his nasal cavity. The sensation of suffocation made him open his mouth, letting out a series of hoarse, rattling gasps.
Before he could even process what was happening, he was dead.
His corpse was tossed onto the ground like a piece of refuse.
Luojia was woken up by hunger.
The dried blood on his clothes reminded him that having his neck snapped just now hadn’t been a hallucination.
He looked up. Two suns hung in the hazy gray sky. Across the endless gray wilderness lay a series of small, blackish-gray hills.
Transmigrated and killed immediately, only to come back to life.
Based on his years of experience reading web novels, since he possessed the secret of resurrection, there should definitely be a System to help him, turning him into the “Chosen One” who would stand at the peak of the world.
“Hello? System? System, are you there? Please activate System…”
A minute passed.
Fine, I don’t have a System, Luojia muttered to himself. Looks like the dream of being the Chosen One is dead.
The twin suns scorched his skin. Luojia felt himself getting hungrier; his stomach acid felt like it was beginning to corrode his internal organs.
His vision went dark. Damn it! This feels like low blood sugar.
Survival was the priority—who knew if the people who killed him would come back!
He picked up a stick from the ground and used it to prop up his body as he stumbled forward.
After a while, he spotted a desolate path and followed it. As he drew closer, the “hills” revealed their true form—they were actually massive piles of trash.
Black liquid oozed from the garbage mountains, and the air carried an acidic stench, like a giant vat of sour, spoiled rice.
Luojia couldn’t help but gag.
He had no idea where he was, let alone which direction led to a city or other people.
“This is great. Not only do I have no System, but what’s worse is I didn’t inherit the original host’s memories. I’m basically a living illiterate, a functional cripple…”
He slumped onto the ground and lay back, closing his eyes. He thought it might be better to just starve to death.
No, I can’t just give up like this!
Luojia snapped his eyes open. His pupils began to shift from black to a shimmering golden hue. His gaze became dazed, his nostrils twitching.
So hungry… smells so good… The hunting instinct of a biological organism allowed him to pinpoint the source of the scent.
Deep within the trash heap.
Greed filled Luojia’s golden eyes. Primitive instinct triggered his hidden potential. His hands became covered in a thin layer of scales—with these scaled hands, he easily dug through the obstructions.
Just as his inner potential was about to be exhausted, Luojia finally found what he was looking for.
It was a thin, golden fragment, no larger than a fingernail.
Fragrant. So fragrant—
Without hesitation, Luojia shoved the fragment into his mouth, chewed twice, and swallowed.
The hunger vanished. His golden pupils faded back to black.
As his sanity returned, Luojia looked down in disbelief. “What did I just eat?! Blegh—“
He dry-heaved several times, but nothing came up.
With the food problem temporarily solved, he needed to find a place with water and shelter… Luojia hugged himself, suppressing his tears.
Don’t cry. Being alive is lucky enough.
Suddenly, Luojia heard the sound of an engine in the distance. His heart skipped a beat—was it the people who had killed him earlier?!
He bolted, but after only a few steps, the roar of the engine was right behind him. He stole a glance and saw a strangely shaped car that looked like a cat’s face.
The car pulled up beside him.
The window rolled down, and a golden head popped out. It was a dark-skinned youth who grinned at Luojia, baring his teeth. “Luojia, what are you doing here?”
Who is he? He knows me?
Luojia was startled, but he didn’t dare speak.
Wait, the person he knows should be the original owner of this body, right?
Luojia’s mind raced, trying to think of a way to keep from blowing his cover.
The boy opened the door and stepped out. He looked Luojia up and down with a strange expression. Luojia couldn’t help but take a step back.
“Luojia, did you fail in your attempt to seduce the City Lord?”
“Huh?” Luojia’s pupils shook. For a moment, he completely lost control of his facial expression.
