- Chapter 2 - Do Me a Favor
“Buddy?”
Bai Yang raised an eyebrow. To him, this form of address was quite novel.
Yan Xun pressed his palms together in a pleading gesture, his eyes looking at him expectantly. Bai Yang let out a sigh but ultimately remained silent.
Outside the door, footsteps approached hurriedly and then receded just as quickly. Only then did Bai Yang speak in a calm voice. “They have left. You can go out now.”
Yan Xun breathed a sigh of relief and nodded. He prepared to stand up straight, but as soon as he moved, his entire body stiffened. He gave Bai Yang an awkward smile. “Buddy, I might not be able to leave just yet.”
Confusion appeared on Bai Yang’s face.
Yan Xun pointed below his waist and explained helplessly, “It might be a bit difficult for me to go out looking like this.”
Following the direction of his finger, Bai Yang glanced down. He remained silent. He thought to himself that it was good to be young, as the reaction was certainly arrogant.
Yan Xun was so embarrassed that he wanted to hide. Steeling himself, he said, “Buddy, if you are going to help, help me all the way. Can I borrow your room for a few minutes?”
“A few minutes?” Bai Yang’s temple throbbed. “Are you sure a few minutes is enough?”
Yan Xun’s mouth twitched as he forced out two words. “I will try.”
Perhaps due to the effects of the drug, Yan Xun felt weak all over. The few steps from the door to the bedside felt as if they required every ounce of strength he possessed. He lay flat on the bed, gasping for air as he recovered for a moment. Then, with a forehead covered in cold sweat, he reached for his belt.
His hands were shaking violently. It was not from nerves, but from physical exhaustion. A moment later, with an expression that looked as if he were about to cry, he looked toward Bai Yang, who was still standing by the door.
“Buddy, do me another favor.”
Yan Xun had never been this humiliated in his entire life. He had never imagined there would come a day when he would have to beg someone to help him take off his pants.
Bai Yang stood still, his gaze fixed intently on Yan Xun’s face as if he were trying to read something from his expression. Over the years, many people had used all sorts of methods to try and catch his attention. The young man before him looked to be in his early twenties, and his face still carried the innocence and purity of a male college student.
Admittedly, the person in front of him had top-tier looks and a great physique. Yet, despite that striking glimpse in the sightseeing elevator earlier, Bai Yang could not help but remain cautious.
Seeing that Bai Yang remained unmoved after a long wait, Yan Xun grew anxious. “Buddy, I know we are strangers and asking for this kind of help is indeed a bit forward, but you see that I am not doing this by choice. Please, buddy, I am begging you. Give me a hand. Buddy, we are both men. You must understand a man’s pain. Saving a life is better than building a seven-storied pagoda. Doing a good deed brings good karma.”
Hearing him use the word “buddy” repeatedly to get close made Bai Yang frown. After a long while, Bai Yang slowly walked over to the bedside. He hesitated for a moment, looking down at Yan Xun from above. With a helpless sigh, he finally reached out his hand.
However, he had still underestimated Yan Xun’s youthful vigor. With just a simple movement from Bai Yang, Yan Xun’s entire body stiffened.
Yan Xun and Bai Yang both fell into a stunned silence. Yan Xun wanted to die, and he was not joking. With a grieving face, he simply closed his eyes and pretended to be dead. He felt he could not go on like this. What kind of person finishes the job just by being touched? It was him.
Standing 180 centimeters tall, Yan Xun grabbed the quilt and burrowed himself inside. He deluded himself into thinking that as long as there was a blanket between them, the embarrassment would vanish.
A moment later, a voice laced with a crying tone emerged from under the covers. “Please, brother, let me cool down.”
Standing by the bed, Bai Yang saw this scene and finally could not help but let the corners of his mouth curl upward. Shaking his head, he sat on the sofa by the bed and lit a cigarette. Amidst the swirling smoke, silence became the medicine that healed all.
After a while, Yan Xun grew tired of crying. He tentatively lifted a corner of the quilt and stole a glance in Bai Yang’s direction. As luck would have it, his eyes met Bai Yang’s, and he was caught red-handed.
He told himself that a man of iron must stand back up where he fell. Steeling himself, Yan Xun put on an act as if he had moved past it. He cleared his throat and said, “Buddy, actually, I am usually not that fast. Really. Today was an accident.”
Bai Yang took a puff of his cigarette with a half-smile and gave a nonchalant response. “Oh. I believe you.”
Yan Xun knew he did not believe him. He felt like the more he tried to explain, the worse it got. He buried his head back into the quilt in even deeper shame. He decided to let it be, as life was tiring enough as it was. Yan Xun adopted a defeated mentality. Since they were both men, he decided it did not matter if he lost face. Anyway, no girls saw it, so it should not affect his chances of getting a girlfriend in the future.
Perhaps because he was physically and mentally exhausted, he actually drifted off to sleep while thinking this.
When Yan Xun woke up again, it was broad daylight. He was the only one in the room. He climbed out of bed with messy hair and saw a set of fresh athletic clothes sitting on the nightstand. Under the clothes was a note.
The room fee is settled. Signed, Bai Yang.
“Bai Yang?” Yan Xun read the two characters. “That must be the buddy’s name. The name does not match the man. The name has fire in it, but the guy is so cold.”
On the back of the note, a string of phone numbers was written. He wondered if this meant he was supposed to contact him. Yan Xun shuddered. In a panic, he crumpled the note into a ball and threw it into the trash can. He did not want to stay a moment longer in this room that held so much humiliation. As for Bai Yang, the man who witnessed his most shameful moment, he never wanted to see him again.
The boys’ dormitory in the early morning was a scene of utter chaos. Three shirtless guys were fighting tooth and nail to claim the bathroom sink. Just as the war reached its peak, the dormitory door was kicked open from the outside.
“My children, prepare to die!”
Yan Xun rushed in aggressively and immediately put the eldest of the dorm, Li He, into a headlock. Li He’s eyes rolled back from the grip, and he immediately begged for mercy. “Godfather, spare me. It is early morning. Are you really going to commit mutiny against your father?”
Zhang Yi approached with his toothbrush. “Xun, when did you get up? Why are you coming in from outside?”
Lin Xing, wearing black-rimmed glasses, chimed in while pulling on a T-shirt. “You two idiots, did you not notice that Yan Xun did not come back at all last night?”
Hearing this, Zhang Yi’s eyes lit up as he looked at Yan Xun. “Looks like going to that mixer yesterday was the right call. Did you have a romantic encounter last night and get a room with a girl?”
Once a conversation between college guys involves women, it immediately turns rowdy. Li He pried Yan Xun’s hand away and laughed. “Not bad, brother. I knew it. With that face of yours, plenty of girls would want to jump into your lap.”
Yan Xun slapped him on the forehead and snapped, “Forget that. My dignity was almost compromised!”
