- Chapter 1 - Single Networking Event
Yan Xun had been backstabbed by his roommates.
They had agreed to spend all four years of university together as the ultimate “single dogs,” but the moment senior year started, those three bastards had all secretly ditched the single life.
Perhaps feeling a pang of guilt, the three “sons” chipped in to buy Yan Xun a ticket to a Qixi Festival Single Networking Event. Yan Xun did not come to this mixer to find a partner; he came for the 988-yuan buffet.
As male college students in the prime of their youth with massive appetites, every dorm dinner felt like a literal dogfight over food. Having the chance to eat a gourmet feast without spending a dime was an opportunity he could not pass up. Hesitating for even a second would be disrespectful to that 988-yuan price tag.
However, the moment Yan Xun arrived at the venue, he fell into a stunned silence. Scanning the room, he could not see a single girl.
How exactly was a group of grown men supposed to mingle their way out of bachelorhood?
Before Yan Xun could wrap his head around it, a staff member finished his registration and handed him a badge. The tag was numbered “271,” indicating he was participant number 271. He put on the badge and stepped into the hall. Then, he immediately saw two men hugging and acting affectionately toward one another.
Yan Xun felt as if a door to a new world had just swung open. “???”
Something was wrong. Something was very, very wrong. What kind of nonsense single networking event was this?
Yan Xun stopped in his tracks, his cold gaze sweeping across the room. He realized with a jolt that, aside from a few female waitresses, every single participant wearing a badge was a man.
Case closed. This was clearly a gay networking event.
“Those three bastards! How dare they play me like this!”
But the Chinese people have a golden motto: “Since I am already here.”
There might not be any girls, but there was a feast. Yan Xun dove headfirst into the food section, ready to switch into full-throttle eating mode. Fearing any association with these couples, he grabbed a plate and found a secluded, empty corner.
This spot was near the end of a long corridor, with floor-to-ceiling windows facing the hotel’s glass sightseeing elevator. Guests going up and down could see into this area. Most people disliked being watched like monkeys while eating, so the surrounding tables were empty. But for a starving male college student, as long as he could get full, he did not care who was watching. He enjoyed the peace, burying his head in his food. In no time, his table was piled high with scraps.
A group of workplace elites surrounded a man in a black suit as they stepped into the sightseeing elevator. As the elevator slowly ascended, the group got a clear view of Yan Xun, who was happily munching away with a crab leg in each hand.
Yan Xun took a bite of a crab leg, wearing a look of pure, blissful satisfaction. Just as he was about to take another bite, he looked up and locked eyes with a pair of deep, soulful eyes. Across the glass, their gazes met. Yan Xun stared blankly.
“Holy crap!”
There was actually a man in this world more handsome than him.
The man in the elevator was clearly wealthy and influential. He exuded a powerful aura, and his well-tailored suit clung to a perfectly proportioned physique. It was the kind of body that would make even a sports major like Yan Xun jealous.
Perhaps because Yan Xun’s stare was so blunt, Bai Yang met his gaze and looked him over. Though it was just a glance, for Assistant Zhou, who had followed Bai Yang for years, it was significant.
Secretary Zhou whispered, “A pity. That kid looks completely innocent of the world. I am afraid he will not escape President Li’s trap tonight.”
Hearing this, Bai Yang’s eyes flickered. “Oh?”
Though the CEO only responded with a single word, Secretary Zhou took it as encouragement and continued. “This networking event was organized by someone on behalf of President Li from Kaiyun Construction. It is held once a month. On the surface, it is just a normal mixer, but in reality, it is President Li’s concubine selection party. Whenever President Li sets his sights on someone, the organizers use various means to deliver them to his bed.”
Bai Yang’s face remained expressionless. As the elevator moved past the floor, he looked down again, but the figure who was so focused on his feast was no longer visible.
Secretary Zhou lowered his voice. “The organizers were just sending a drink to that kid’s table. If I am not mistaken, President Li has taken an interest in him.”
After saying this, Secretary Zhou carefully observed his boss’s reaction. As a confidant, he figured that if the boss was interested in the kid, he could find a way to deal with someone like President Li. To his surprise, Bai Yang said nothing. He did not even show a change in expression.
The group stepped out of the elevator. Secretary Zhou shook his head with a faint smile. “I guess I was overthinking it.”
Value for money was a real thing. The 988-yuan buffet featured fresh, unlimited ingredients, and waitresses even brought drinks directly to him. Yan Xun had not felt this satisfied in a long time.
Full and happy, he grabbed his backpack, slung it over his shoulder, and started to head out. After just two steps, his body swayed.
“I only had one glass of fruit wine. Surely I am not drunk? Is this stuff that strong?” Yan Xun muttered to himself.
He looked up to find three tall, sturdy waiters blocking his path. One of them wore a smile.
“Sir, you seem unsteady. Why don’t we help you to a room to rest for a while? The safety of every guest is our responsibility. Our restaurant provides temporary rooms for guests who have had too much to drink, free of charge.”
Yan Xun waved them off. “No need, I am going home to sleep, thanks.”
Before he could finish, the waiters on either side grabbed his arms. Half-supporting and half-dragging him, they led him out through the restaurant’s back door and straight into an elevator.
Yan Xun’s head was spinning violently. He shook his head, trying to clear his mind, but out of the corner of his eye, he saw the waiter in front of him sending a message on his phone. It read: “He is in the elevator. We will have him in your bed in a moment.”
Bed? Person? What person? Was it him? He was a guy; whose bed were they sending him to?
“What the hell!”
Does society have no morals left? Yan Xun’s eyes widened, and a cold sweat instantly soaked his back. Although he lacked social experience, he had read plenty of news. He was actually caught in one of those melodramatic, trashy plots.
However, sitting back and waiting for death was not in Yan Xun’s nature. The moment the elevator doors opened, he lunged forward with a kick, sending the waiter in front of him flying. Then, he bolted without looking back. His survival instinct, combined with the stamina from his athletic training, allowed him to hit a hundred-meter sprint speed.
By the time the three waiters regained their senses and chased him into the stairwell, Yan Xun was nowhere to be seen.
“Find him!” “Split up!”
The three dispersed to search. Once they were gone, Yan Xun crawled out cautiously from behind a utility door. The strange sensation in his body told him he had definitely been drugged. There was something wrong with that drink.
In this state, he could not run far. He had to find a place to hide to have any chance of survival. With that thought, he forced himself to stay conscious and stumbled forward.
Suddenly, a door on the right opened. Yan Xun turned his head and met those familiar, deep eyes. Faint footsteps echoed from the distant stairwell; the three men were closing in.
Yan Xun bit his lip, used every ounce of his remaining strength to lunge into the room, and slammed the door shut behind him. Before Bai Yang could react, the youth had fallen into his arms.
Yan Xun was completely weak. Slumped against the man’s chest, he looked up and forced a strained smile.
“Hey man, do me a favor.”
