- Chapter 19 - Addicted to Beauty
[520: Ding-dong! Congratulations, Host, on successfully gaining Huo Yan’s recognition. Current Favorability: 50 (Inseparable). Level +1.]
[520: Host has successfully rewritten the next stage of the plot: The Royal Threat. Current character ending rewrite progress: 15%. Level +1. Current Character Level: 10. (At Level 15, you may go OOC with supporting characters other than the protagonist.)]
Lu Yunli leaned back in his car, his fingers tapping rhythmically on the steering wheel.
[Lu Yunli: What’s the next stage of favorability called?]
[520: Two Hearts Beat as One.]
[Lu Yunli: And the final one?]
[520: Til Death Do Us Part.]
Lu Yunli fell silent.
Judging by the names provided by the system, once favorability broke past 50, the emotions would gradually deepen as favorability stacked, eventually shifting from friendship to love.
While he could technically max out Huo Yan’s favorability directly, his ultimate goal was to complete the mission and go home. He had a decent impression of Huo Yan. There was no need to lead the man on only to cause them both misery later; it seemed he needed to know when to stop.
Lu Yunli suddenly spoke aloud: “Can I check the protagonist’s favorability?”
[520: Current Favorability of Qi Xi for Lu Yunxing: 60.]
Friendship at its peak, but not quite love. A fleeting novelty. Once that dog Qi hits a few more walls, he should give up.
Lu Yunli: “What is the key plot point for the next phase?”
[520: Birthday Crisis.]
He remembered now. In the original book, the host was threatened by the Royal Family because of the chips; they gave him a deadline to hand them over. To keep the FLP Group from finding out, the original host went to the black market to buy a batch of chips, but they charged him an exorbitant price. He ended up using his own birthday banquet as a front to rake in a massive amount of cash.
Just when he thought he had solved the issue, he walked in on his husband and his secretary together at the party. Shocked and devastated, the emotional upheaval caused the host to enter his rut prematurely. There was a large media presence at the banquet that day, and a sex scandal shot straight to the top of the trending searches. The “star” of the photos was the host in his rut, shown forcing himself on an Omega.
Not only did FLP Group’s stock drop double digits in a single day, but it also prompted the company elders to consider replacing their leader for the first time.
Lu Yunli let out a cold snort. He used to just think the original host was stupid; he didn’t realize he was a complete failure too.
[520: Dear, the plot is only 15% changed, which means anything is still possible!]
Lu Yunli: “I’m only addicted to Alphas.”
Lu Yunli: “Right now, even if Qi Xi told me to my face that he loved Xie Xingchi, I wouldn’t be surprised, let alone sleep with an O. Absolutely impossible!”
A sudden knock on the car window made Lu Yunli turn his head. He saw Qi Xi standing outside with one hand in his pocket.
Why hasn’t this guy left yet?
Lu Yunli frowned and rolled down the window. “Is something wrong?”
Qi Xi’s gaze landed on the black signet ring on Lu Yunli’s finger. “President Lu, could you lend me that little toy for a few days?”
Lu Yunli raised his hand. “Interested?”
Qi Xi: “Lan Hai has been developing a new information interaction device lately.”
“Divorce Xingxing, and I’ll give it to you.” Lu Yunli arched an eyebrow. “Or, you could take me as your master…”
“Lu Yunli!” Qi Xi narrowed his eyes. “I swear, you’re talking absolute nonsense—”
Before he could finish, the car in front of him sped away. Judging by the speed, Qi Xi could feel the driver’s annoyance.
Qi Xi’s words cut off. He stared at the car exiting the military base and cursed under his breath. “The older he gets, the more immature he becomes! Can’t fix those rotten habits!”
Despite being Xingxing’s big brother and despite his cursing Qi Xi got into his off-road vehicle and sent a text apology to Lu Yunli. He looked at the dry text, added a Husky dog emoji, and then tossed his phone aside, satisfied.
At Galant Bar, Lu Yunli leaned back in a booth and scoffed at the message on his phone.
He sure folded quickly.
Resting his arm on the side of the sofa, he turned his gaze to the person singing and dancing on the stage below. The song seemed to be a recent hit, but the performer’s vocal range was unique. His stage presence was magnetic and sexy, and his partially exposed slender waist and abdominal muscles drew constant screams from the crowd.
Lu Yunli’s eyes darkened. He asked the waiter pouring his drinks, “Is he a resident performer here?”
“No.” The waiter placed a cocktail in front of Lu Yunli. “He’s only performing two songs.”
Lu Yunli: “Newcomer?”
The waiter shook his head. “No. He showed up tonight saying his money had been stolen and asked to sing two songs. Our boss thought he was a scammer, but the guy said he only wanted the tips. Since there was no cost and we didn’t have a schedule tonight, the boss let him go on.”
The waiter looked down at the stage. “Though the guy is pretty incredible. We’ve hired famous bands before, but none of them have been as popular as he is tonight.”
Lu Yunli tapped his fingers on the table. “Which song is this?”
Waiter: “The second one.”
Lu Yunli: “How much has he made in tips?”
The waiter glanced around, leaned in, and lowered his voice. “Nearly a hundred thousand already. Our boss’s heart is green with regret for not signing him.”
Lu Yunli pulled a card from his suit pocket and pushed it toward the waiter. “Give this to him.”
The waiter’s eyes widened. “A… a Black Gold card? Sir, you’re giving this to him?”
[520: Dear! That’s the only card you have with available cash flow! If you give it away, it’s gone!]
[Lu Yunli: You have to bait the hook to catch the fish.]
[Lu Yunli: Look at these people. They are driven to madness and obsession by one person. Beauty is a poison, easy to get addicted to; no one escapes it.]
The entertainment division of FLP Group had been in the red. The artists were either slacking off or breaking contracts; not one was useful. If he didn’t discover some new talent soon, even with a fortune at home, he’d go bankrupt.
Lu Yunli raised an eyebrow. “Give it.”
The waiter’s hand trembled as he reached for the card, but Lu Yunli’s finger pressed down on it, holding it in place.
“Sir?” the waiter asked, confused.
Lu Yunli looked up. “Tell him that once he takes this card, he’s my man. Tell him to come up and see me.”
