- The Top-Tier Alpha Refuses to Be Pretty Cannon Fodder
- Chapter 18 - Enchanting Succubus
“The coup in Country Y has concluded. According to the military’s forecast for this year, international tensions will gradually reach a fever pitch within the next three years if Duke Alberd successfully ascends the throne.”
“Country Y’s comprehensive strength exceeds our own. Should they initiate a conflict, it is imperative that we phase out obsolete weaponry and develop high-tech equipment to ensure the advancement of our various military branches.”
“I believe our most urgent task is to develop more heavy weaponry.”
“I disagree.” Lu Yunli, who had been resting his chin on one hand in silence, suddenly spoke up, cutting through the room’s debate. “In my view, the future trend of military equipment will shift toward Informatization and Intelligence. The heavy weapons you speak of will gradually become obsolete.”
The crowd glanced at Lu Yunli, and small, whispered discussions instantly broke out among them.
“Is that our country’s top-tier Alpha? I heard he never appears in public.” “He’s far too beautiful; he looks like an Omega.” “Doesn’t the FLP Group’s factory only supply assembled weapons globally? I’ve never heard of this man dabbling in weapons research…”
A light chuckle suddenly rang out in the conference room. The sound was abrupt, causing everyone to turn their gaze toward the source.
They saw the top-tier Alpha sitting at the head of the table lean back lazily, sliding a signet ring off his finger and placing it on the desk.
The next moment, the exact whispers of the crowd began to broadcast from the small object, word for word.
With their gossip made public, the attendees turned red with embarrassment. Some of the more hot-tempered ones stood up, pointing directly at Lu Yunli. “How could you?”
“Insolent! Sit down!”
Huo Yan’s brow furrowed behind his gold-rimmed glasses. He stood up and slammed his hand on the table.
“Admiral Huo,” Lu Yunli called out to him.
Seeing Huo Yan sit back down, Lu Yunli stood up and walked over to the man who had pointed at him. “Does having your privacy intercepted make you angry?”
Observing the man’s flushed face, Lu Yunli picked up the signet ring. “Imagine this: if we were at war with an enemy, and before either side’s heavy weapons even arrived, we—without leaving our homes—had already intercepted all their information. Tell me, would that not be a massive advantage for us?”
The soldier muttered under his breath, “Isn’t that just a bugging device?”
“Aha, you’re right.” Lu Yunli toyed with the ring. “It is a bugging device.”
“But modern bugging devices require Bluetooth receivers and specific setups to work. Why don’t you all try to find out where the receiver is right now?”
After receiving a nod from Huo Yan, the group began searching the room. They checked every corner, yet they found absolutely nothing.
The soldier walked back to Lu Yunli. “President Lu, where… where did you hide the receiver?”
“I didn’t install one.” Lu Yunli sat back down and pressed a button on the device. “Check your phone again.”
The soldier complied. Just as he pulled his phone out, a warning alarm blared. He checked it quickly and found a notification stating his device had been connected to an unknown signal source.
“This…”
Lu Yunli: “This is the Informatized military combat I spoke of.”
Suddenly, a cold snort came from the side. Qi Xi, who had been silent until now, slammed his pen onto the table with a clack.
“The devices of world leaders currently have very sophisticated security systems. If your little toy encounters encrypted hardware, it’ll be useless. It’s only good for messing with ordinary people.”
Lu Yunli arched an eyebrow. “President Qi has studied AI for years; I presume your phone’s security system must be top-tier.”
Qi Xi: “Correct.”
Lu Yunli: “Care to make a bet?”
Qi Xi: “On what?”
Lu Yunli propped his elbow on the table, resting his cheek in his hand. “I will randomly decrypt the last few messages sent from President Qi’s phone. If I succeed, I win. If not, you win.”
Qi Xi leaned back, draping his arm over the back of the chair. “If I win, I take your seat at the head of this table.”
Lu Yunli laughed. “And if I win, I have the final say on the upcoming project.”
The two were at loggerheads, neither willing to yield. The people in the room were desperate to see the result. Even Huo Yan, sitting to the side, leaned forward slightly.
Lu Yunli pressed the ring and looked at his opponent. “President Qi agreed so readily; aren’t you afraid that once decrypted, we’ll find you’re out dating some mistress?”
Qi Xi: “I have no mistress. Only a wife.”
Lu Yunli snorted internally. Xie Xingchi is standing right there, who are you kidding?
One minute later, the ring displayed a decryption failure.
Qi Xi scoffed. “Get up. Give me the seat.”
Lu Yunli didn’t move. He sat up unhurriedly and pressed the other side of the ring. The next moment, the plain little ring transformed before everyone’s eyes, unfolding into a small screen and a virtual keyboard.
Code scrolled across the screen. Lu Yunli’s fingers flew as he typed in a string of commands. A minute later, he hit enter and curled his lips into a smile. “Decrypted.”
He tapped the screen, and the content was projected directly onto the white wall behind them. Someone read the messages aloud:
“The new product from R&D has flaws. Tell them to redo it as soon as possible over the next few days.”
“Book a suite for me this weekend. Make it a couple’s room.”
Reading this, Lu Yunli arched his eyebrow at Qi Xi. “Planning to take a little succubus to a hotel? And President Qi says he has no mistress?”
Qi Xi: “I don’t.”
“Xingxing likes ocean views. Book the hotel by the sea.”
“Who is ‘Xingxing’?” “I think… it’s President Lu’s younger brother…” “Are the two of them married?”
Lu Yunli: “…………….”
Great. I never expected that the ‘little succubus’ would be myself.
Qi Xi observed the shifting expressions on Lu Yunli’s face and leaned in. “What should I do, Big Brother? This little succubus has me completely infatuated.”
Lu Yunli clenched his fist at his side. “…”
Is ‘Big Brother’ a name you’re allowed to call me?!
Qi Xi spoke again, “It’s Xingxing’s birthday in a few days. Since Big Brother knows now, I’ll be taking him out directly.”
If Lu Yunxing were truly his younger brother, Lu Yunli might not be able to control the boy’s heart. But Lu Yunxing was him, and he was Lu Yunxing. He’d go out just because Qi Xi said so?
Lu Yunli let out a cold snort. “As long as Xingxing is willing, President Qi is free to try.”
If you manage to get him out on a date, I lose!
Hearing the continued gossip around him, Lu Yunli tapped the screen to shut it off and stood up.
Qi Xi crossed his legs and leaned back, reminding him, “Hey, though you cracked it in the end, the first attempt failed. This round doesn’t count as your win.”
Lu Yunli whetted his teeth. “You didn’t win either.”
Qi Xi: “Likewise.”
Lu Yunli: “You flatter me.”
A single failure wasn’t terrifying; the final success proved that what Lu Yunli proposed could become a reality. If realized, it would be a massive boost to the national defense of Country M.
Thunderous applause erupted in the meeting room.
Huo Yan walked up to meet him. “President Lu, you seem to bring me surprises every time we meet.”
He hadn’t misjudged this man. Once these technologies hit the market, Lu Yunli would be a target of competition for every nation. But if…
“As long as the Admiral is willing, I can bring even more surprises to you and to Country M.” Lu Yunli smiled and extended his hand to Huo Yan. “To serve the country is my pleasure.”
