- Chapter 15 - A Beautiful Trouble
“Lu Yunxing!”
Lu Yunli had just stepped into the teaching building when a low, sharp shout echoed behind him. Lin Zhi’s voice was thick with irritation, as if he were absolutely livid.
Lu Yunli didn’t stop.
Lin Zhi caught up quickly, pulling Lu Yunli back just as he was about to step onto the stairs. “Lu Yunxing, I’m talking to you!”
Only then did Lu Yunli turn around.
The Omega in front of him had dropped his previous facade of false kindness; his eyes were now overflowing with hatred and anger as he looked at him.
[Lu Yunli: Can I go OOC against a piece of cannon fodder like this?]
[520: Your current level is 8. You are allowed small-scale OOC behavior against cannon fodder and background characters.]
Perfect.
Lu Yunli’s lips curled into a smile.
[520: A quick reminder: Lin Zhi is a close friend of the protagonist, Xie Xingchi. Until you reach Level 20, you must not let him find out you are an Alpha.]
[Lu Yunli: Don’t worry.]
Lu Yunli looked down at the hand gripping his arm. “Lin Zhi, you’re hurting me.”
Lin Zhi tightened his grip, pulling him closer. “I’m asking you—what exactly did you say to Wang Su?”
Lu Yunli: “What are you talking about?”
“Still playing dumb? If you didn’t say anything to Wang Su, why would he give the project to you?” Lin Zhi took a sharp breath. “You clearly knew this project was supposed to be mine, and you dared to steal it from me?”
“Oh, that.” Lu Yunli pulled his arm out of Lin Zhi’s grasp. “You’ve got the wrong person.”
“I wasn’t the one who brought it up. It was Qi Xi. If you have a problem, go take it up with him.”
Lin Zhi moved to block his path. “Lu Yunxing, are you trying to use Qi Xi to pressure me?”
Lu Yunli shrugged. “I’m just stating a fact.”
Lin Zhi crossed his arms and let out a cold snort. “With your grades, even if you’re on the project, you’ll just make a mess of it. I suggest you drop out early to save yourself the embarrassment—and to save Senior Qi the embarrassment of being associated with you!”
Lu Yunli looked up. “If I drop out, will the project be handed to you?”
Lu Yunli’s gaze was suddenly sharp and imposing, making Lin Zhi’s breath hitch. “You…”
Lu Yunli didn’t stop walking. “I used to consider you a friend, but you’ve been spreading rumors about me behind my back at school.”
“Lin Zhi, if I’m not worthy, are you?”
Lin Zhi stumbled back a step.
Lu Yunli stopped right in front of him. Staring at Lin Zhi’s increasingly panicked face, he tucked his hands behind his back and leaned in slightly.
“Do I need to remind you exactly how you got onto projects in the past?”
Lin Zhi’s breathing suddenly became ragged and heavy. Lu Yunli’s gaze swept suggestively across the man’s neck before he leaned into his ear. “If you’re smart, you’ll act like this never happened. Otherwise, I wouldn’t mind introducing people to you… and your various lovers.”
Lin Zhi shoved him away violently. “Lu Yunxing!”
He had completely misjudged him; Lu Yunxing wasn’t a delicate, teary-eyed Omega at all! Perhaps even his devotion to Qi Xi was nothing more than a feigned act!
Lu Yunli reached out and brushed off the spot where Lin Zhi had touched him, then turned to leave. “I’ve said my piece. Think it over.”
“Lu Yunxing, I didn’t expect you to be putting on an act in front of me too,” Lin Zhi sneered. “Aren’t you afraid I’ll tell Qi Xi about this?”
Lu Yunli glanced back slightly. “Then go ahead and tell him. Let’s see who he believes—you or me.”
Lin Zhi clenched his fists. “Lu Yunxing! Don’t get cocky. I won’t let this go!”
After leaving Lin Zhi, Lu Yunli went to report to the laboratory. On the way, he received a message from Huo Yan.
Lu Yunli smiled. “Huo Yan wants me to visit the Military Department tomorrow to take a tour—and pick up the chips while I’m at it.”
[520: Doesn’t that mean the plan worked?]
“It worked.” Lu Yunli slipped his phone into his pocket. “It’s just a shame I won’t get to see the look on Qi Xi’s face when he gets snubbed. It’s bound to be spectacular.”
[520: Will they rat you out to each other?]
Lu Yunli shook his head. “To save face, neither of them will say a word.”
Not only would they not talk, they would likely help him polish the story to make it sound perfect.
“When the snipe and the clam grapple, the fisherman gets the catch.”
[520: It’s more like two Alphas fighting over one ‘Beautiful Trouble’.]
Lu Yunli: “……………… Just shut up.”
Since Wang Su wasn’t in, a research assistant named Wang Feng took him to get familiar with the project.
In his past life, Lu Yunli had participated in and even led major military projects multiple times, so he was very familiar with everything Wang Feng was explaining. By the time the man finished the briefing, Lu Yunli already knew exactly what needed to be done.
In this world, he might not be fully adjusted to the theoretical textbooks yet, but the physical components in front of him were things he had experimented with thousands of times—they were as familiar as his own hands.
Seeing him start working on the parts directly, Wang Feng stepped forward to stop him. “Be careful! These are rare materials from the Military Department. You have to wait until you’re completely sure before you…”
Before Wang Feng could finish his sentence, he saw the Omega’s fingers flying across the components. The parts seemed to come to life under his touch. In no time at all, the skeleton of a firearm took shape in his hands.
“It’s just a prototype. What a waste.” Lu Yunli set the gun down, sounding bored.
If it could be fully realized, it would be significantly more advanced than the current armaments.
Wang Feng’s eyes widened as he rushed forward. “You actually recognized that it was a prototype?”
Lu Yunli’s fingers curled slightly. “I was just guessing.”
“No way!” Wang Feng said excitedly. “The students in the lab have been researching this for ages and couldn’t find the issue, but you saw it at a glance!”
“Professor Wang Su told me to guide you, but it looks like you know everything already. Have you worked on other projects before?”
Lu Yunli: “No.”
Wang Feng gaped. “Wow, Junior, you’re a genius!”
Lu Yunli twitched his lips. “I was just messing around.”
“Wuwuwu, Junior, don’t be so humble! I saw it too!” “I saw it as well! I even timed it, ten minutes. It only took him ten minutes to assemble it!” “Wait, isn’t this Junior Lu Yunxing? I think that was the name on the paper Professor Wang Su made us read yesterday!” “That paper was so well-written, it hit me right in the soul!”
Lu Yunli: “…………”
What on earth did Wang Su do?!
In the evening, Huo Yan encountered Wang Su outside the teaching building, who was also heading in the same direction.
“The Admiral is here.”
Huo Yan turned toward the voice and offered a slight nod, speaking gratefully. “I owe you my thanks, Professor, regarding the matter with Lu Yunxing.”
“No need for such formalities with me, Admiral.” Wang Su stopped and glanced at the illuminated windows of the teaching building. “You’ve never been this attentive toward any student before.”
“The Military Department is currently collaborating with the FLP Group. Since he is the younger brother of their head, it is only natural to look after him a bit.” Huo Yan smiled and gave the bag in his hand a small shake. “In fact, I happened to pick up some food for him on the way.”
Wang Su gave him a knowing look. “Interestingly, regarding his entry into the lab, you weren’t the only one. Qi Xi also brought it up to me.”
Huo Yan frowned. “Qi Xi?”
Wang Su nodded. “Yes.”
“He came to the school that day and mentioned it. It seems his feelings for his little wife aren’t entirely non-existent.”
Huo Yan adjusted his glasses but remained silent.
As the two entered the building, Wang Su handed a document to Huo Yan. “Take a look at this.”
Huo Yan accepted it. “An Assessment of Modern Weapon Performance and Evolutionary Development.”
Seeing Huo Yan flip through the pages, Wang Su continued, “This thesis is exceptionally written. The theoretical insights, including a detailed analysis of the evolution of modern weaponry, are incredibly profound.”
Huo Yan: “Who wrote it?”
Wang Su: “Lu Yunxing.”
Huo Yan looked up in surprise.
“You don’t believe it either, do you?” Wang Su snorted. “Neither did I.”
“That little brat fails his classes every year. Just a few days ago, I even had to call his guardian because of it.”
The two began walking up the stairs, but Huo Yan suddenly paused. His gaze landed on a figure standing outside a brightly lit classroom not far away.
Taller and imposing, with an air of unbridled wildness: Qi Xi.
What is he doing here?
Outside the classroom door, Qi Xi had been standing for a long time.
His eyes were fixed on the laboratory, where the small Omega was surrounded by others while tinkering with weaponry. The dark metallic components made the boy’s fingers look strikingly white and elegant.
Omegas were born delicate; their bodies were not as robust as Alphas or Betas. Most chose professions like acting, dance, or painting. Omegas at the University of Technology were rare, and Lu Yunxing was the only one studying weapon systems.
Until moments ago, Qi Xi had believed Lu Yunxing was the lazy, incompetent student Wang Su described. But after witnessing the boy’s masterful technique in assembling weapons, he realized that over the past two years, Lu Yunxing had been slacking off on purpose. He was hiding his brilliance.
It made sense—they were both from the Lu family. His brother was the only top-tier Alpha in Country M with formidable strength. How could his twin be the “useless waste” everyone claimed?
Was the reason he got his guardian called to school just to see me?
Qi Xi’s expression darkened instantly. He had previously misunderstood the boy’s relationship with Huo Yan…
“Teacher Huo!”
A sudden cry of delight came from inside the room. Qi Xi looked over and saw the small Omega push through the crowd and run out.
But he ran toward Huo Yan, not toward him.
“Lu Yunxing!”
Qi Xi clenched his fists. How could I have thought for a second that he came to Lan Hai Group for me?
He was standing right there, a man of his stature, yet the boy’s eyes only saw Huo Yan?! Was this even logical?
Huo Yan was also caught off guard. He looked at the smiling Omega running toward him and smiled back. “Xingxing, we meet again.”
Lu Yunli: “Teacher Huo, why are you here? Are you… are you looking for Professor Wang Su?”
“I heard you joined the project, so I came to see you.” Huo Yan held out the bag. “This is for you.”
Lu Yunli took the bag and peeked inside.
“It’s fried chicken,” Huo Yan explained. “Last time we were driving, I saw you staring at this fried chicken shop for a long time. I thought you might like it, so I bought some.”
The fried chicken was fragrant and still hot. A look of pure joy slowly spread across Lu Yunli’s face. “As expected, Teacher Huo understands me best. You really are the best person in the world.”
Compared to Lu Yunli’s usual cold and elegant beauty, the small Omega’s smile now was more like a radiant sunflower.
Huo Yan laughed. “I’m glad you like it.”
[520: Ding-dong! Huo Yan’s favorability +10.]
Qi Xi looked at the fried chicken he had also bought in his own hand, his face turning as black as a pot.
[Lu Yunli: Why do I feel a sudden chill down my spine?]
[520: Because… Qi Xi is right behind you.]
[Lu Yunli: …………….]
Lu Yunli slowly turned around and saw the tall man in the black bespoke suit standing near the classroom.
[Lu Yunli: If I say it’s too dark and I didn’t see him, will he believe me?]
[520: Based on the original character’s personality, you shouldn’t have accepted that fried chicken just now…]
[Lu Yunli: Don’t shock me! I didn’t see him! I can fix this!]
[520: …………]
[Lu Yunli: Have you ever heard a certain saying?]
[520: What saying?]
[Lu Yunli: Only children make choices. As an adult, I obviously want them both.]
[520: …………]
