The Top-Tier Alpha Refuses to Be Pretty Cannon Fodder - Chapter 13
Downstairs in the villa, Qi Xi meticulously cleared away every last shard of broken porcelain. Only after ensuring the floor was polished clean and free of anything that could cut a foot did he finally switch off the vacuum and walk over to the sofa.
He lit a cigarette, but after just one puff, he abruptly stood up and crushed it out in the ashtray.
How could he have forgotten? He wasn’t alone in this house anymore.
Frowning, Qi Xi waved away the heavy scent of smoke and pushed open the living room window. He breathed in the fresh air from outside and glanced up at the tightly shut door on the second floor.
He wasn’t sure if it was just his imagination, but he felt that after three years, Lu Yunxing had changed.
Although the current Lu Yunxing was still prone to tears, fragile, and appeared deeply in love with him, Qi Xi could occasionally catch a glimmer of sly wit in those eyes that shone like bright stars.
He was like a cat that had just stolen a treat.
Thinking of this, Qi Xi’s lips couldn’t help but curve upward.
He turned around, leaning against the windowsill as he pulled out his phone to call Fang Yu, the owner of Galant Bar. On the other end, the background noise of the bar was incredibly loud and chaotic.
“Brother Xi, are you coming out to play? I just happen to have a spot at a booth right here.”
Qi Xi frowned deeply. “Find somewhere quiet. I need to ask you something.”
Qi Xi’s voice sounded unusually solemn and serious. Fang Yu knit his brows, pushed through the crowd, and headed to a relatively quiet private room. “Did something big happen?”
“You could say that.”
Qi Xi gripped the windowsill, asking with total gravity, “Suppose an Alpha has been a total jerk to his partner. How does he win back their heart?”
Fang Yu: “Define ‘jerk’.”
Qi Xi: “Married for three years and never spent a single night at home.”
Fang Yu: “There’s no winning that back. Just bury yourself and get it over with.”
Qi Xi: “……”
Fang Yu, the owner of Galant, pondered for a moment. “Wait, my dear CEO Qi, you couldn’t possibly be talking about yourself, could you? Didn’t you say you were going to divorce that little wife of yours? What, changed your mind?”
Qi Xi furrowed his brow. “He… seems different.”
“I can’t quite put my finger on it, but he’s not the same as before. It’s as if… he’s a completely different person.”
Fang Yu: “So, is the divorce still happening?”
Qi Xi fell silent for a long while. He carefully recalled his interactions with Lu Yunxing over the past few days and told Fang Yu, “No.”
Fang Yu: “Then what about Xie Xingchi?”
Qi Xi turned his head. “What does this have to do with Xie Xingchi?”
Fang Yu: “Don’t you like him? Weren’t you getting a divorce just so you could marry him?”
Qi Xi reached up and tugged at his collar. “Who the hell told you I liked Xie Xingchi?”
Fang Yu: “?”
“He’s my secretary.” Hearing the silence on the other end, Qi Xi suddenly recalled that Xie Xingchi had indeed seemed exceptionally close to him lately.
He had clearly warned him before.
He narrowed his eyes. “He’s talking nonsense.”
“When I first started the company, I didn’t trust anyone. He’s a childhood friend, and his father entrusted him to me, so I kept him around.”
Fang Yu: “So what do you plan to do now?”
“I want to be good to Lu Yunxing. I want to make up for the debts of these past few years.”
Qi Xi looked up at the closed door upstairs. “He doesn’t know how to take care of himself at home alone, and he doesn’t say a word when he’s bullied at school.”
Listening to Qi Xi, Fang Yu rubbed his chin and asked pointedly, “Then, do you love him?”
The sudden question plunged Qi Xi into silence. “I don’t know.”
“I think at most, you just don’t dislike him right now, but it’s definitely not love.” Fang Yu spoke again. “If you’ve really decided on this person, you should first learn how to love.”
Qi Xi: “What counts as loving?”
“My dear CEO, did you study so much that you went stupid?”
Fang Yu laughed out of sheer exasperation. “Loving means when they’re happy, you feel happy; when they’re sad, you feel sad too. You want to bring the best things in the world to them.”
“To put it simply: the world is big, but your wife is the biggest.”
Qi Xi thought about it seriously. “Like when copper sulfate meets ammonia water, it precipitates many impurities.”
Fang Yu: “……Close enough.”
Qi Xi: “So what do I do now?”
Fang Yu: “If you want to be good to him, do you even know what he likes?”
“I don’t.” Qi Xi thought it over and realized he truly knew nothing about Lu Yunxing’s preferences.
Fang Yu: “There you go. First, learn to understand him, love him, and then cater to his interests.”
Qi Xi reflected for a moment as an idea formed. “I understand. I’m hanging up.”
Fang Yu: “??????”
Where’s the “thank you”??????
This was the textbook definition of burning the bridge after crossing it.
Just as Fang Yu’s grumbling voice echoed in the hallway, Qi Xi called back.
“I say, ancestor, what do you want now?”
Qi Xi: “Thanks.”
Fang Yu: “??????”
Fang Yu: “You called back just to say that?”
Qi Xi: “What else?”
Fang Yu’s mouth twitched. The sun must have risen in the west today. The man who used to be as arrogant as they come had actually turned over a new leaf.
Qi Xi raised an eyebrow. “When things work out later, I’ll thank you in person.”
Fang Yu: “Bring your spouse.”
Qi Xi: “In your dreams!”
His Xingxing belonged to him and him alone.
Fang Yu: “……”
The morning sun filtered through the window. Lu Yunli rolled over in bed, pulling the duvet over his head. “520, turn off the alarm!”
[520: Dear, you have to go to school today!]
“This is all because Qi Xi is a busybody!” Lu Yunli threw back the duvet and snapped his eyes open.
The original owner had slacked off for two years, and his grades were abysmal; his supervisor never included him in projects. If Qi Xi hadn’t gone to the school that day and insisted that Wang Su give him a project to follow, why would he have to wake up early?
[520: Dear, Qi Xi had good intentions.]
Lu Yunli: “Well, thanks a lot!”
Fine. He was running low on mechanical parts anyway, so it was a good time to visit the lab.
Lu Yunli brushed back his messy hair and yanked the door open. There, standing right outside the door, was the very subject of his internal rant.
Lu Yunli: “………………”
