The Top-Tier Alpha Refuses to Be Pretty Cannon Fodder - Chapter 12
“Lu Yunxing, you’ve been drinking.”
Qi Xi’s voice was low, his breath brushing past Lu Yunli’s neck and sending a numbing sensation through the sensitive scent gland located there.
Due to Qi Xi’s sudden movement, Lu Yunli was forced to hook his arms around the man’s neck. As he drew closer, he caught the faint scent of alcohol lingering on Qi Xi. It wasn’t Qi Xi’s own pheromones; rather, it was the scent of peach-flavored brandy.
White Peach Oolong happened to be the scent of Lu Yunli’s own pheromones.
Lu Yunli stared at the suppression patch on the back of Qi Xi’s neck, his eyes darkening. “So have you, Brother Qi.”
White Peach Oolong: sweet and fragrant like peaches upon the first taste, followed by the refreshing, lingering aftertaste of oolong tea.
As a top-tier Alpha, Lu Yunli had always felt his pheromones were far too sweet and cloying, making him seem like a delicate Omega inside and out. Fortunately, whenever he went out, he wore a suppression patch, so no one had ever discovered his secret.
Now, the fact that Qi Xi was carrying a trace of his pheromone scent—even if it was just from the liquor—felt like a gesture of goodwill.
Qi Xi was making an overture.
Qi Xi repeated, “Lu Yunxing, I am asking you.”
“I drank.” Lu Yunli studied the man’s features intently. As his gaze swept over the back of Qi Xi’s neck, his curled fingers tightened. “I drank brandy.”
Qi Xi’s Adam’s apple bobbed.
It had to be said that Qi Xi’s face was exactly Lu Yunli’s type. He didn’t possess the elegant, noble aura of Huo Yan, which felt like pine wood on a distant mountain; instead, Qi Xi exuded the mature, wild charm of a large, loyal dog.
When it came to the clingy nature of Omegas, Lu Yunli actually preferred Alphas.
An Alpha’s scent gland has already atrophied, meaning they cannot be marked by another Alpha. If bitten, it would only leave a shallow tooth mark on the back of the neck. Furthermore, given an Alpha’s regenerative powers, even a scar would heal completely by the next day.
Lu Yunli looked away. “Why are you back?”
Qi Xi countered, “Why shouldn’t I be back?”
Lu Yunli pursed his lips. “Didn’t you just come back this afternoon?”
“Xingxing, this is my home too,” Qi Xi reminded him.
Lu Yunli muttered, “You haven’t been back in three years.”
Qi Xi replied, “If I didn’t come back, you’d end up repeating a grade, Xingxing.”
Lu Yunli: “……”
[520: Ouch, right in the heart. Tsk tsk.]
[Lu Yunli: Shut up.]
[Lu Yunli: If it weren’t for you, would a straight-A student like me be reduced to a slacker?]
Qi Xi carried the small “Omega” in his arms to the living room and set him down on the sofa. Lu Yunli tried to get up, but Qi Xi firmly grasped his slender ankle. “Don’t move.”
Qi Xi had long fingers; even with his hand around the ankle, there was still room to spare.
Lu Yunli stopped moving. He tilted his head back and watched the man stand up to switch on the lights. The sudden brightness was piercing, and Lu Yunli squinted, raising a hand to shield his eyes.
Qi Xi returned, kneeling before the young man with a first-aid kit. He lifted the foot dangling off the sofa, revealing the faint red marks left by his grip on the ankle. Looking further up, other hidden traces were visible beneath the pant leg.
Feeling the weight of that gaze, Lu Yunli lowered his hand and reached down to tug at his trousers. In the next moment, his fingers were caught. Qi Xi had clearly already seen.
Qi Xi asked, “How did this happen?”
Lu Yunli pulled his hand back. “I tied them.”
Qi Xi pressed, “Who did?”
The words were forced through Lu Yunli’s teeth. “Myself.”
Once the words were out, the shame wasn’t as bad as he expected. Lu Yunli propped his hands on the sofa and exhaled a long breath of relief.
Qi Xi’s fingers suddenly stiffened.
Lu Yunxing hadn’t finished his sentence, but it wasn’t hard to guess for whom he had done such a thing. Although he didn’t know why Lu Yunxing hadn’t followed through, the fact that the little Omega was willing to humble himself to seek intimacy was already a massive compromise and concession.
In contrast, what had he said to the boy that day?
Qi Xi rolled the pant leg back down. “Don’t do that anymore.”
Lu Yunli’s gaze deepened as he watched Qi Xi. “I went to see my brother today.” He paused before speaking again. “Brother Qi, when will you give me the divorce papers? That way I can… hiss!”
A sudden sharp pain in his foot cut his sentence short. He looked down and saw Qi Xi using a pair of tweezers to extract a shard of broken glass embedded in his sole.
[Lu Yunli: I think Qi Xi is using a private grudge as an excuse for public duty!]
Feeling the slight tremor in the young man’s body, Qi Xi tossed the blood-stained glass into the trash and looked up. “Does it hurt a lot?”
Lu Yunli clenched his hands at his sides, forcing a smile. “It doesn’t hurt.”
Liar.
Qi Xi stared at those reddened eyes and softened his movements. However, the sting of the alcohol disinfectant still made Lu Yunli’s body tremble. The pain made his eyes sting, and tears flowed out involuntarily, landing with a soft patter on the back of Qi Xi’s hand.
The scalding, burning teardrops made Qi Xi’s fingers twitch.
What kind of cursed constitution was this? Just a little pain and the tears started pouring.
Lu Yunli sniffled, his face dark as he wiped the tears away. “I’m fine, don’t worry about me.”
His voice, thick with the sound of crying, reached Qi Xi’s ears. Qi Xi reached up to wipe a tear from the corner of the boy’s eye. “Does it hurt that much? I’ll be gentler.”
Lu Yunli: “……”
Fine, he would just stop talking.
Fortunately, it didn’t take long. Qi Xi wrapped a couple of layers of gauze around the foot and stood up. “Don’t let your foot touch water.”
It was just a minor injury. He was a top-tier Alpha, not a delicate Omega.
Lu Yunli didn’t care much about the wound. Instead, he stared at the cartoon slippers on Qi Xi’s feet and wiggled his toes. “Give me back my slippers.”
Qi Xi looked down. “This is the only pair.”
Lu Yunli’s eyelid twitched. “Then go barefoot!”
Seeing the little Omega’s puffed-up, angry face, Qi Xi’s lips curved slightly. “Then buy me a pair of slippers.”
Lu Yunli: “????”
Buy them my ass! You don’t come back for years at a time; if I buy them, they’ll just sit there collecting dust!
A familiar, weak electric current made Lu Yunli take a deep breath. He changed his tune. “I’ll buy them.”
“Tomorrow.”
Just as Qi Xi leaned down, Lu Yunli ducked under his arm and escaped. He stomped up the stairs, hearing Qi Xi call out from behind him, “Xingxing, I’ll drive you to class tomorrow.”
The only response he got was the loud bang of Lu Yunli slamming his door shut.
Qi Xi let out a soft laugh. In this moment, he actually felt that this marriage wasn’t as terrible as he had imagined.
An hour later, the roar of a vacuum cleaner echoed through the villa.
Sitting in his room tinkering with mechanical parts, Lu Yunli found the noise too distracting to concentrate. He took off his goggles and opened the door.
The villa, which was usually pitch black and silent, was now brightly lit because of the extra person. Previously, to keep his identity secret, the original owner only allowed a cleaner to come once a week. According to the calendar, it would be several days before she arrived again.
But right now, the vacuum was running.
Qi Xi, wearing a pink cartoon apron, stood in the living room, seriously cleaning with the vacuum.
Lu Yunli leaned against the doorframe with his arms crossed and let out a cold laugh. “Having that dog Qi at home is something I’m really not used to.”
