The Stunning Omega CEO Always Wants Me to Mark Her - Chapter 17
Hearing the voice, Wen Xiangzhu stiffened for a moment, then quickly stopped in her tracks. She looked over with a smile.
“You’re here.”
“Why are you so slow?” Lin Sui frowned as she walked up to her. “What are you carrying?”
Wen Xiangzhu snapped back to herself. “These are cooling sleeves I bought for you. Put them on before the race.”
With that, she shoved the package into Lin Sui’s arms.
Lin Sui froze for a beat, her gaze a little dazed as it lingered on Wen Xiangzhu.
She really hadn’t expected that the reason this girl went to the convenience store was just to buy cooling sleeves for her.
“Come on, it’s almost time. You’d better get going.”
Wen Xiangzhu smiled lightly, urging her on.
Zhu Huan glanced at her suspiciously.
“What about you? Aren’t you going to watch the race?”
“Of course I am!” Wen Xiangzhu widened her eyes and hurried to explain. “I just need to stop by the restroom first. You two go ahead, no need to wait for me.”
Hearing that, Zhu Huan accepted it without doubt. “Alright, but hurry. Suisui, let’s go first—otherwise we’ll be late.”
“Ah, okay.” Lin Sui took a couple of steps toward the exit, then turned back to glance at Wen Xiangzhu.
She was still standing there, watching them with a smile, even raising her hand in a wave.
“Come on, hurry, hurry,” Zhu Huan urged.
Lin Sui nodded, pulled her gaze away, and headed off.
When the race began, Wen Xiangzhu finally hobbled to the railing, biting back the pain in her ankle. She looked down at Lin Sui on the track.
“Wenwen, look!” Lu Xiaomeng ran up, grinning. “Lin Sui’s in the lead!”
“Mm.”
Wen Xiangzhu’s lips curved, her eyes shining. She answered softly, “I see her.”
The summer field buzzed with voices, the crowd’s cheers rising and falling.
At the railing, a girl stood still, her gaze lowered, her eyes fixed on only one figure.
The one who, in her heart, was the most extraordinary of all.
With one lap left before the finish, Lu Xiaomeng suddenly tugged at Wen Xiangzhu’s sleeve.
“Wenwen, do you want to go bring her some water?”
“Water?” Wen Xiangzhu blinked, then lowered her eyes, her expression dimming.
“Forget it.”
“Why not?” Lu Xiaomeng asked curiously.
Wen Xiangzhu’s lashes trembled, but she didn’t answer. She only shook her head and lifted her eyes back toward the track.
The race ended. Lin Sui came in first.
Amid the thunderous cheers, Wen Xiangzhu’s sharp eyes spotted a girl standing at the exit with a bottle of water in her hand.
She recognized her—and had even asked around.
Last PE class, it was that same Omega, Fan Shihan, who’d given Lin Sui water.
And that cup of lemon tea the other day—it must have been from her too.
The thought made Wen Xiangzhu press her lips together, her expression complicated as she stared toward the exit.
Lin Sui was drenched in sweat, and after crossing the finish line she headed straight for the shade of a tree.
Thankfully, apart from being exhausted and out of breath, she didn’t seem to feel unwell.
“Um.”
As she was catching her breath, a voice came from beside her.
“Here, this is for you.”
A pair of hands held out a bottle of mineral water in front of her.
Without thinking much of it, Lin Sui accepted it, took a few gulps, and then turned her head. “Thanks.”
When she saw the person’s face, she paused. “You”
“You remember me?” Fan Shihan’s eyes widened slightly as she looked at Lin Sui.
Lin Sui thought for a moment, then said, “Last PE class—were you the one who bought me the wrong drink?”
“Yes, that was me!”
Fan Shihan looked almost thrilled. “I didn’t think you’d still remember.”
Lin Sui was at a loss.
Did she really seem like the type to have a bad memory? It hadn’t even been that long.
Just as she was thinking this, Fan Shihan started to say, “And last time, the lemon”
A gunshot rang out, drowning her words.
A volunteer wearing a red armband walked over.
“The next race is starting. Please clear the track.”
“Alright.”
Lin Sui responded with a brief “mm” before leaving the track and heading back toward her class’s spectator section.
Fan Shihan trailed slowly behind her, but didn’t continue the conversation from earlier.
“Um, can I ask you something?” she asked cautiously.
Lin Sui twisted the cap on her water bottle absentmindedly and said, “Go ahead.”
“What’s your relationship with Wen Xiangzhu?”
The movement of Lin Sui’s hand stilled at those words.
Fan Shihan grew nervous under her silence and quickly added, “I only asked because I saw some posts on the forum. I was just curious.”
At that, Lin Sui shot her a glance. For the sake of the bottle of water Fan Shihan had handed her earlier, she decided not to be too harsh.
“Do yourself a favor—curiosity doesn’t suit you.”
“Oh.”
Lin Sui said nothing more. She quickened her pace and left.
Speaking of Wen Xiangzhu, that little tail who liked to follow her around all the time—why hadn’t she shown up to bring her water today?
Puzzled, Lin Sui returned to the spectator seats and sat down beside Zhu Huan.
“Congrats!” Zhu Huan clapped her on the shoulder. “You’re not feeling unwell anywhere, are you?”
“I’m fine.” Lin Sui replied as she slipped off the cooling sleeves from her arms.
“I checked. High jump’s scheduled for tomorrow, so you can rest today.” Zhu Huan said, still scrolling through her phone.
Lin Sui answered distractedly and scanned the stands.
No sign of Wen Xiangzhu.
She thought for a moment, glanced at Zhu Huan, and immediately dismissed the idea of asking.
If she brought up Wen Xiangzhu now, wouldn’t Zhu Huan tease her about it for the rest of the day?
Pulling out her phone, Lin Sui opened their chat.
[Where did you go?]
She typed out the message but hesitated before hitting send.
Maybe Wen Xiangzhu had just gone to the convenience store? Or the restroom? Or maybe back to the classroom to rest?
If she asked now, wouldn’t it look like she cared too much?
With that thought, Lin Sui deleted the message and turned her phone off.
After a pause, she said, “I’m going to the convenience store.”
“Hm?” Zhu Huan looked up. “Want me to come with you?”
“No need.” Lin Sui waved her off and headed toward the teaching building.
The convenience store wasn’t crowded. When she walked in, the students inside lit up with excitement, tugging at their friends’ sleeves and whispering with grins on their faces.
Lin Sui glanced around, bought an ice cream more for form’s sake than anything else, and stepped back outside.
She wasn’t here.
A flicker of irritation stirred in Lin Sui’s chest. Tearing open the wrapper, she bit into the ice cream and made her way upstairs toward the classroom.
But the classroom was empty.
Where else could that girl have gone?
Frowning in thought, Lin Sui turned back down the stairs at a leisurely pace.
That was when she spotted a familiar figure not far ahead.
“Lu Xiaomeng?”
Lu Xiaomeng froze mid-step, her expression stiff as she turned toward Lin Sui.
“Lin—Lin”
“What’s with that reaction? Do I look that scary?”
Puzzled, Lin Sui walked closer. She glanced at the door behind Lu Xiaomeng. “What are you doing at the infirmary?”
“I” Lu Xiaomeng pressed her lips together and dropped her gaze, looking guilty. “I came to get some medicine.”
“Medicine?”
“Y-yeah. I think I got a bit of heatstroke.”
Lin Sui frowned, studying her for a long moment before tossing her finished ice cream stick into the nearby trash bin. “Is that so?”
She raised a brow and pointed at Lu Xiaomeng’s empty hands. “Then where’s the medicine?”
Lu Xiaomeng : “…”
