- The Strongest Magician Can Only Love His Dead Wife — After I Reincarnated, My Cute Younger Husband Turned Yandere
- Chapter 25 - Strange Occurrence
(It was like a storm. But Lord Arsenio and Lord Jeremy seem to be getting along better than before, don’t they?)
I remember the old Arsenio being pricklier and more standoffish toward Jeremy, but now he seems to have softened a bit.
In the sixteen years since Rubia’s death, Jeremy must have been watching over Arsenio all this time.
I felt relieved that their relationship had continued and even grown stronger than before.
—For the next week, Rubia spent her time leisurely reading and doing embroidery around the mansion.
At first, she enjoyed having time to herself after so long, but after about three days, she gradually began to feel lonely.
Of course, Arsenio was concerned about Rubia and would send magical messenger butterflies with his voice every day to check on her.
But having him physically present made all the difference.
Ever since she married him, Arsenio had always been by her side. He constantly worried about whether she needed anything or if there was anything she wanted to eat.
Though she sometimes found his constant presence a bit overwhelming, now that he was gone, she felt something was missing. Rubia realized she was being selfish.
(Oh my! It seems I was more accustomed to having Lord Arsenio by my side than I thought.)
Would he return tomorrow, or the day after?
Every day, Rubia would gaze out the window toward the royal castle, her thoughts drifting to Arsenio.
Then, after a week and three days had passed.
A maid brought a letter to Rubia.
The moment she saw the sender’s name, she was honestly surprised.
‘Dear Rubia,
I’m sorry for this sudden letter. I hope you’re doing well. There’s something I’d like to discuss with you. I’m staying at an inn called Komoretei in the neighboring town. Could you please come see me? I’m truly in a bind and feel like you’re the only one I can turn to. I’ll be waiting.
Jimena Piatti’
Thinking about what had happened between them, Rubia couldn’t help but hesitate.
However, Rubia was inherently kind-hearted and couldn’t ignore someone in trouble.
When she heard words like “in a bind” and “you’re the only one I can turn to,” her desire to help inevitably won out.
(If it’s just Jimena alone, even if something happens, having a guard should be fine… And I have my protective ring, so it should be okay.)
After some hesitation, Rubia decided to take one sturdy manservant with her to meet Jimena.
Faced with a mountain of documents, Arsenio slumped over his desk, groaning.
“Rubia… I want to see Rubia… What’s so fun about being stuck alone with a scruffy man, staring at piles of paper…?”
If possible, he wanted to go home right now, hug Rubia, bury his face in her hair, and breathe in her scent.
But the scruffy man in question, Jeremy wouldn’t allow it.
“Sorry for being scruffy, but move your hands, not your mouth. And for the record, I’m not scruffy. Women always tell me I’m a refreshing, wonderful older-brother type.”
“Ugh, Jeremy, you… You should stop taking those empty compliments seriously.”
“Stop being so disgusted! That hurts, you know!”
They had been staying in the castle’s magic tower for over a week, buried in paperwork, and both were at their limit.
They engaged in a childish, pointless argument, and both slumped their shoulders in shared futility.
“Haah… Let’s stop. Arguing won’t get this work done anyway.”
“Yeah! Let’s have some coffee.”
Just as Arsenio was about to ring the bell to call an attendant to make coffee.
One of their subordinates suddenly burst into the room.
“Excuse me! I’ve come to report to Vice-Chief Silva.”
“What is it?”
“We’ve received a report that former Count Fiero, imprisoned in Oblidia Prison, hasn’t woken up for three days. We had a doctor examine him as a precaution. His breathing and pulse are normal, and a magic mirror scan showed no abnormalities inside his body. He just appears to be asleep.”
“Grandfather…?”
Arsenio unconsciously furrowed his brow.
His grandfather had indeed seemed ill for some time, but Jimena had always brought him medicine. Besides, for his body to be normal yet not wake up for three days.
“I’ll check for myself.”
Arsenio threw on the coat hanging on the wall and left the room.
He didn’t care what happened to the grandfather who killed Rubia, but he had a bad feeling about this.
“Wait, I’m coming too.”
As Arsenio hurried down the hallway, Jeremy caught up from behind.
“It’s that Count Fiero we’re talking about. He might be plotting something. The more hands, the better.”
“Yeah…”
The two headed straight to the hall, activated a magic gate, and went to Oblidia Prison.
—And the moment they saw Count Fiero, sleeping soundly, they realized immediately.
They couldn’t sense any magical power from him, even though he was supposed to be a magician.
“It’s a substitute.”
The words escaped one of them almost simultaneously.
