The Strongest Magician Can Only Love His Dead Wife — After I Reincarnated, My Cute Younger Husband Turned Yandere - Chapter 24
After spending two days at the Santa Lena villa, the two returned to the capital residence.
During their stay at the villa, Arsenio took Rubia out every day, showing her beautiful scenery and letting her experience enjoyable events.
“Where would you like to go tomorrow? How about the day after? If there’s anything you want, just say the word. If Rubia wishes it, I’ll even bring her the head of a king from another country.”
At such ominous statements, Rubia would break into a cold sweat and reply, “I’m perfectly fine as things are now.”
When leaving the villa, the Marcos family seemed genuinely sad to see them go, repeatedly saying, “Please come visit again soon.”
Tonia even had tears in her eyes and gave them so many local Santa Lena specialties like pottery and chili tea, that they could barely carry them all.
Though it was a short period, they had spent an intensely rich time together. Upon returning to the residence, Rubia suddenly realized something.
(Now that I think about it, Arsenio is the Second Court Magician, right? I heard that in the Empire, there’s a shortage of magicians, and the Court Magicians are swamped with work.)
Ever since she had reunited with Arsenio, Rubia couldn’t recall ever seeing him actually attending to his duties.
Of course, since they were together every day, that might be natural but had it really been okay for them to leisurely take a short trip like that?
“Um, Arsenio. As a Court Magician, you must be incredibly busy, right? Is it really alright for you not to be going to work?”
They had just returned from their trip. Arsenio was already lounging on the living room sofa, flipping open a magazine titled “The Top 100 Walks in the Imperial Capital.” Rubia tentatively posed her question.
In response, he flashed a refreshing smile and neatly sidestepped her inquiry.
“I heard a new theater will be opening soon. Do you like watching plays, Rubia?”
“I love them! Back in my homeland, my father and brothers often took me to see operas—wait, no, that’s not it! I’m talking about your work, Arsenio!”
She had almost gotten swept up in his diversion. Realizing he was clearly trying to change the subject, Rubia hurriedly corrected course.
At that, Arsenio made an openly displeased face.
“I’d rather not talk about work when I’m spending precious time with you.”
“See, I knew it! You really do have to go, don’t you?! Wh-what should we do? If you’re lazing around like this and get penalized.”
“It’s fine, I’ll go the day after tomorrow or maybe the day after that… hmm, perhaps in about four days?”
“Please go starting tomorrow!”
She scolded him like a teacher admonishing a child for putting off homework. Though reluctant, he finally acquiesced.
“If you insist, Rubia, I’ll go, even though I don’t want to. But I’ll worry about you being in danger while I’m away, so I’ll give you this.”
What Arsenio drew from his pocket was a ring.
Set on a butterfly-shaped band was a blue stone. Its deep, beautiful sparkle was like a lake reflecting a starry sky.
“It’s beautiful!”
“It’s a protective ring infused with my magic. Please wear it at all times.”
Saying this, he respectfully took Rubia’s hand and slipped the ring onto her left pinky finger. It fit perfectly, as if it had always been meant for her.
“I could have chosen a gem matching my eye color, but blue suits you best.”
“Thank you. I’ll treasure it!”
Rubia was a girl of marriageable age. Receiving such a beautiful piece of jewelry made her heart flutter.
She had just put the ring on her pinky and was holding it up to the light, admiring it from every angle, when—
A magic portal suddenly materialized in the room.
As Rubia stared in astonishment, a figure shrouded in light emerged from the portal.
“Je—”
She started to call out the name of the familiar person but caught herself just in time.
Jeremy Rosario. He was Arsenio’s master and the eldest son of the Rosario ducal house. In this life, she hadn’t even met him yet.
While Rubia covered her mouth, Jeremy strode straight up to Arsenio and grabbed him by the collar.
“Arsenio, how much longer do you plan on lazing around on vacation?! Thanks to you, all the extra work is falling on me!”
“Isn’t that the Chief Magician’s job?”
“The hell it is?! Who do you think you are, the Chief Magician?!”
“Stop nagging. I’m newly married. Have some consideration.”
Even faced with Jeremy’s entirely reasonable scolding, Arsenio remained unruffled, his attitude breezy. As Rubia watched nervously, Jeremy revealed a shocking fact.
“If we’re talking newlyweds, I’m one too, you know!”
“What?! Y-you’re married?!”
In her past memories, Jeremy had never settled down with anyone special, always seeming to flit from one inconsequential relationship to another.
Because of that, it was hard to believe he had now built a life with one specific person.
However, Arsenio seemed to interpret Rubia’s surprise differently.
“You care about that?! Why?! Hey, why?! Do you still have feelings for this guy?! More than for me?!”
It seemed he was still hung up on the fact that Rubia and Jeremy had gotten along well in the past. He pressed close to Rubia, his expression desperate as he questioned her.
“No, that’s not what I meant.”
“Stop spouting nonsense and confusing your wife, you idiot.”
While Rubia flusteredly tried to deny it, Jeremy grabbed Arsenio by the scruff of his neck.
He forcefully dragged Arsenio toward the magic portal, then flashed a charming smile at Rubia.
“Sorry about this, ma’am, I’m borrowing this guy~. —Hey, Arsenio, move it!”
“Let go of me! I want to spend more time with Rubia.”
Before Arsenio could finish his sentence, the magic portal activated, and the two figures vanished into the light.
Only a stunned Rubia was left behind.
