Chapter 1: Genetic Testing
“The results from your batch of genetic testing should have come out last month, how was it?”
The youth didn’t lift his head, his slightly long silver bangs lightly covering his eyelashes. “I don’t know.”
“How can you be so careless about something that concerns your future life partner…” Ye Sheng finally gave up halfway through his complaint and sighed deeply, “Tell me your account and password, I’ll check for you.”
If he truly could, Ye Sheng had no doubt that Bai Qing would be perfectly happy spending his life with his beloved mecha.
Ye Sheng finally managed to pry the account and password out of Bai Qing, who was immersed in the Chronicles of Mecha Warfare. He logged into the Everlasting Empire’s Genetic Testing Matchmaking Service System. After inputting the basic information, only a very ordinary-looking youth appeared on the homepage.
Ye Sheng checked the information again in shock.
Name: Bai Qing; Primary Gender: Male; Secondary Gender: Omega. Even the identity ID number was identical to Bai Qing’s. Ye Sheng finally couldn’t hold back and looked up:
“Is it really okay to upload a photo like this to the genetic matching system?”
The personal photo on the system’s homepage couldn’t be called completely identical to Bai Qing himself; it could only be said to be completely unrelated.
It was a face with rather common features, a blank expression, and looked lifeless—the kind that would disappear into a crowd and never be found again.
Bai Qing pondered sluggishly for a moment before remembering the photo incident: “The Genetic Matching System is separate from the Everlasting Empire Citizen Services System. When I uploaded it, there was no error reported.”
“I’m asking if this is okay! For something this important, when you need to upload a personal photo, stop being attached to that human skin mask of yours,” Ye Sheng paused, “And why does this face look so much like mine?”
Bai Qing closed his book. “I was competing at the time, and I was too lazy to take it off.”
Ye Sheng rubbed his forehead, sighing in frustration: “An underground arena definitely requires a mask, I forgive you. But next time you make a human skin mask, could you please not use my face? It’s too similar, and I might get into trouble! Besides, even if you did mold it, you should at least retain one-tenth of this young master’s handsomeness!”
After all, he’d been handsome since childhood. It would damage his reputation if he was spotted by an acquaintance at the underground arena.
Bai Qing was merciless: “No.”
Ye Sheng snorted. He knew Bai Qing couldn’t say anything nice.
With such a good-looking face, why couldn’t he say something nicer?
But the next second, his expression froze. He then struggled to keep his voice down: “Genetic matching rate 99.9%!!! Bai Qing, 99.9%!!”
Bai Qing expressionlessly covered Ye Sheng’s mouth. “Too noisy.”
Ye Sheng struggled free and furiously signaled with his eyes for him to look.
Bai Qing finally conceded, glancing over. He saw the name of the match: Xiang Zhuo.
The person had black hair and black eyes, an overwhelmingly handsome face, and fierce, intimidating eyes. Just looking at the photo, one could sense an aura of extreme aggression.
Bai Qing looked at Ye Sheng, who was too excited to speak, and quietly asked, “Who is he?”
Ye Sheng took a long time to return to a normal voice: “This is His Royal Highness the Prince! The Crown Prince of the Everlasting Empire, the future King, and the only Alpha to possess SSS-level combat power! In every aspect, he is a top-tier marriage candidate! The dream Alpha of countless Omegas.”
Bai Qing shifted his gaze away from the terminal, placed the precious paper-bound ancient book back on the shelf, and stood up to leave.
“Where are you going?”
Bai Qing turned. “To train.”
Ye Sheng chased after him: “You’re going to marry the Imperial Crown Prince, aren’t you excited?”
Bai Qing turned sideways and spoke earnestly to Ye Sheng, who was half a step behind: “I don’t want to marry someone like that.”
…
“I don’t want to marry someone like that!”
Xiang Zhuo slammed his hand on the table forcefully.
“But your genetic matching rate is 99.9%.” Jing Yu looked at his angry friend, who was about to enter into matrimony, and was quite pleased.
The union of an Alpha and Omega with a high genetic matching rate offers many benefits. Not only does it improve various experiences during the bond, but it also reduces discomfort during both parties’ periods of vulnerability (rut/heat), and the Omega’s conception rate is extremely high.
According to the laws of the Everlasting Empire, to better breed high-quality descendants, Alphas and Omegas with a genetic matching rate of 90% or higher are automatically bound in a marital relationship by the system. Their electronic profiles automatically list them as each other’s fiancé or fiancée.
The Imperial Government encourages high-match AO marriages. Once the two register their marriage, the government provides all possible preferential policies and welfare benefits.
Conversely, if parties with a high genetic match wish to dissolve this relationship, they must undergo multiple procedures and a more complicated and lengthy review process.
Xiang Zhuo stared at the person’s face in the photo, eyes practically spitting fire.
The person in the photo looked too different from his silver-haired, blue-eyed Dream Omega!
Xiang Zhuo: “He’s not my type.”
Jing Yu raised an eyebrow: “Bai Qing? The young master of the Bai family? If you marry him, the benefits will only increase. The Bai family is currently the Empire’s largest arms dealer and the largest and most reputable manufacturer of military and civilian mecha. Having such a large family as your backing will make your future path much smoother.”
The Bai family has protected Bai Qing very well. The outside world knows nothing of Bai Qing’s name or appearance. Only a few high-level nobles know that the Bai family’s young master is named Bai Qing, but that’s all. As for everything else—appearance, temper, age—they are completely unknown.
He is very mysterious; many people don’t even know that the Bai family, starting from the current head, Bai Changqing, has already produced a third generation.
Xiang Zhuo sighed: “But, I already have someone I like.”
Jing Yu: “…”
Xiang Zhuo propped his chin up, a look of longing appearing on his face: “He’s truly amazing, you know? He’s the only person who has been able to fight back and forth with me in a mecha battle for so long.
“He is truly, truly unique.”
Jing Yu remembered: “That Beta in the underground arena?”
Xiang Zhuo gestured with his hands, full of longing: “Yes!
“I want that kind of collision and impact of souls. He’s so special. The moment I saw him, I knew he was the lifelong partner I had been searching for.
“I’m going to pursue him, I must have him, he is my White Moonlight, and I’m going to marry him!”
Jing Yu was a bit speechless: “But, do you know that Beta’s name?”
The Prince froze for a moment: “No.”
But his mind was filled with the hot-blooded excitement he felt during their mecha battles, the uncontainable thrill. It was the full-body tingling sensation of his competitiveness reaching max level and being unable to control himself. He couldn’t explain why, but whenever he went to the underground arena and encountered that Beta, he almost lost control of his instincts. His barely maintained reason was nearly exhausted, and he was about to turn into a beast.
It was really strange. He had always been proud of his self-control, but whenever he faced that Beta, that ability dropped to zero.
He was absolutely certain that he wanted to spend his life with this Beta, even if it meant fighting mecha battles for the rest of his life.
The Prince’s gaze was firm: “I’m going to marry him.
“I must break off the engagement with Bai Qing!”
…
The entire royal family took the Crown Prince’s marriage very seriously, and even some nobles quietly inquired about Xiang Zhuo’s genetic testing results.
However, ever since the results were released, the smile had vanished from the Prince’s face.
Those in the know found out that the Prince’s future consort was the Omega of the Bai family. Those less informed only heard that the appearance of the Prince’s genetically matched partner was somewhat lacking.
In short, His Royal Highness was extremely dissatisfied with his fiancé.
This matter even alarmed His Majesty the King. The King of the Everlasting Empire, burdened with state affairs, had to carve out a moment from his busy schedule to summon his only son.
His Majesty was actually very pleased with his only son. He had been an outstanding individual in all respects since childhood. Aside from being a little headstrong, he could find no fault.
But precisely because he was too trusting of his son, he neglected his guidance, leading to the child being distant from him.
Just like today, when he wanted to have a casual chat with his son, he had to summon him with the formality of summoning a minister just to see him.
But this brat clearly wasn’t giving him face, ignoring every word he said.
His Majesty gently rubbed his temples: “I saw Bai Qing once when he was a child. He wasn’t bad looking. Where did you get the idea that he’s ‘somewhat lacking’?”
Xiang Zhuo: “Your Majesty should not believe outside rumors. I want to cancel the engagement absolutely not because of his appearance, but because I already have someone in my heart.”
“Your genetic match is very high—the highest recorded since the founding of the Empire—and explicitly protected by law. It would truly be a pity to give it up just like that. Are you really sure you know what you are saying?”
Xiang Zhuo stood rigidly beneath the throne, his firm face gilded with a sacred golden light by the setting sun.
**“I am very sure what I am saying.
“I will never regret this, Your Majesty. If it weren’t for the mandatory age for genetic testing, I wouldn’t have submitted my information at all. I have already had someone in my heart for a long time. I want to pursue them honorably, and so, I must break off the engagement with Bai Qing. The position by my side can only be reserved for the one I love.”**
His Majesty the King looked at this rebellious heir and felt an immense, immense headache.
