The Sickly Beauty Beta Got Pregnant After A Political Marriage - Chapter 2
Until they reached the villa, Zhou Yi remained in a state of utter shock throughout the entire journey.
The boss was not normal today, absolutely not normal! Not only did he agree to an arranged marriage with a young Beta master, but he, a man who always demanded strict punctuality, had stood up a business partner for the very first time?!
Zhou Yi hadn’t heard clearly who was on the other end of that phone call in the car or what was said. But the boss was acting far too out of character…
Once Wen Xiuheng got out of the car, his and the driver’s work was done. Both men arrived in a daze and left in a daze.
By the time Wen Xiuheng entered the room, Dr. Lu was already examining Shen Jiayu.
Auntie Cui stood to the side, her face etched with anxiety. Seeing Wen Xiuheng return, she immediately hurried over to meet him.
“At dinner time, I came to call Young Master Shen. At first, there was no movement when I knocked. Fortunately, the door wasn’t locked. As soon as I pushed it open, I saw Young Master Shen collapsed on the floor. No matter how I called him, he wouldn’t wake up, and his forehead was burning hot…”
Wen Xiuheng nodded, signaling that he understood.
At this point, Dr. Lu finished the examination. Wen Xiuheng stepped forward and asked, “How is he?”
Lu Jun took off his mask, gave a “tsk,” and opened with: “Master Wen, how could you have the heart to leave such a little beauty at home alone? What if something had actually happened?”
He and Wen Xiuheng had known each other for over a decade, he was one of the few people brave enough to joke with him.
Wen Xiuheng’s gaze turned cold. “Get to the point.”
Lu Jun “tsk” again. “The point? The point is that it’s lucky this fever from the cold was treated in time. Otherwise, for a little beauty with congenital heart disease like him, once the heart’s burden is exceeded, he’d have to be rushed to the hospital for emergency resuscitation!”
Lu Jun seemed to be falling into his habit of rambling. He crossed his arms over his chest, prepared to give the Alpha in front of him, who apparently knew nothing of “pitying the fragrance and valuing the jade” a piece of his mind.
“I’ve seen the news. Even though the Shen family has gone bankrupt, this Young Master Shen is clearly his parents’ precious darling. Since you’ve entered a marriage alliance with him, you should take good care of him. People with heart disease must avoid colds and fevers at all costs, especially since this little beauty’s constitution is already weak…”
“Then again, how old is this little beauty? You didn’t trick him into coming here before he even reached adulthood, did you? If that’s the case, I’m calling the police…”
While he talked incessantly, Wen Xiuheng walked past him and stood by Shen Jiayu’s bed. Moreover, quite rarely, Wen Xiuheng did not stop Lu Jun’s rapid fire chatter.
Wen Xiuheng looked down.
Shen Jiayu lay quietly on the bed. His pale face was flushed from the fever, and the corners of his eyes were stained red. Even in his deep sleep, he did not look at peace. Shen Jiayu’s brows were slightly furrowed, and his long eyelashes trembled gently. His entire being was permeated with an air of sickness, like a pale, frail rose.
Seeing Wen Xiuheng’s behavior, Lu Jun was the one who found it unusual and stopped talking first.
Wen Xiuheng softened his voice, turned, and asked him, “Tell me all the precautions.”
After staring blankly for a good while, Lu Jun finally realized, was this Young Master Wen, the man who was usually cold to the bone inside and out, going to personally look after someone? Was the little beauty on the bed the one with the fever, or was it the Great Young Master Wen? Had he burned his brain out?
“…Oh, precautions. Um, what you need to watch out for is…”
While in a state of shock, Lu Jun relayed every single precaution. Wen Xiuheng listened very intently, making Lu Jun’s jaw nearly drop to the floor in surprise.
Tsk, what’s this? Is the iron tree finally blooming a new flower?
Before leaving, Lu Jun emphasized that someone must keep watch tonight. Although the patient had already taken medication, someone needed to be there in case of emergencies.
After seeing Lu Jun out, Auntie Cui returned to find Wen Xiuheng already sitting in the chair by the bed, holding a document in his hand.
“Young Master, the others and I will take turns watching tonight. You should go and rest early.”
Wen Xiuheng nodded and gave an “en,” yet he showed no intention of getting up.
Seeing this, Auntie Cui quietly retreated, thinking she would come back after the Young Master left.
For a moment, only the two of them remained in the room.
Outside the window, the snow continued to flutter down; it looked like it would fall all night long.
Wen Xiuheng first gazed silently at Shen Jiayu for a moment before looking back at the document.
There wasn’t much information regarding Shen Jiayu or rather, it wasn’t complicated. He grew up in a warm and harmonious family of three, living and studying like most children in such families. However, due to his congenital heart disease and weak constitution, he was a frequent visitor to the hospital. He was currently a first-year student in the Fine Arts Painting Department at Capital University.
When he saw the name of the university, Wen Xiuheng’s gaze paused briefly before he continued reading.
Two months ago, the Shen family declared bankruptcy. It was said there were hidden circumstances behind the bankruptcy. Afterward, the Shen family sold their property. One day, Father Shen suffered a sudden illness and was rushed to a nearby hospital; he remained in a coma to this day.
Seeing this, Wen Xiuheng frowned slightly.
Suddenly, a faint sound of sobbing came from the bed.
Wen Xiuheng put down the document and leaned in to look.
It seemed he was dreaming of something bad. Shen Jiayu was crying.
The boy curled up his body, eyes closed, head turned toward Wen Xiuheng. Half of his face was buried in the pillow as he cried restrainedly and softly, his long lashes damp with tears. Soft strands of hair were scattered across his snowy-white neck. His slender, ivory fingers gripped the pillow tightly, and his small, delicate body trembled from the sobbing. Before long, his tears soaked a small patch of the fabric, making one instinctively feel pity and heartache.
Even an Alpha as habitually cold and indifferent as Wen Xiuheng couldn’t help but feel a powerful surge of protectiveness at this moment.
In Wen Xiuheng’s twenty-eight years of life, he had never seen a Beta so slender and fragile, even more in need of protection than an Omega.
As if possessed, Wen Xiuheng slowly reached out, cupping Shen Jiayu’s tear flushed cheek with restraint and tenderness, using his thumb to gently wipe away the tears at the corner of his eye.
Only then did Wen Xiuheng realize how small Shen Jiayu’s face was so small that a single one of his hands could completely cover it.
Furthermore, Shen Jiayu’s skin was truly too sensitive and delicate. Even though he used very light pressure, a faint red mark inevitably remained where Wen Xiuheng’s finger had passed.
Wen Xiuheng stared down for a moment, his heart ultimately softening again.
“Don’t cry,” Wen Xiuheng’s deep, magnetic voice sighed softly, as if coaxing a naive infant.
But Shen Jiayu continued to cry very sadly. In his dream, he saw his father pass away, and he and his mother were standing before his father’s grave to say goodbye.
He cried so sorrowfully, as if he were venting all the sadness and grief he had accumulated since his father fell ill.
Wen Xiuheng had just helped him wipe away his tears, but new ones quickly welled up. Wen Xiuheng sighed softly, his tone devoid of impatience or reproach, carrying instead heavy heartache and helplessness: “Be good, don’t cry anymore.”
If he kept crying like this, Wen Xiuheng worried the burden on Shen Jiayu’s heart would become too heavy.
“Wooo…” Shen Jiayu cried until his consciousness was blurred. In his stupor, he subconsciously nuzzled his cheek gently against Wen Xiuheng’s hand, as if he had found some kind of reliance and support.
As the warm, soft sensation brushed against his fingers, the Alpha’s breath suddenly hitched.
