The Scummy Alpha Who Transmigrated Into a Book Was Tricked by the Actress Omega - Chapter 38
“What’s wrong with you?”
Yan Xunzhen snapped out of her thoughts belatedly to find Du Zuilan looking at her with concern, noticing her troubled expression.
She quickly pulled herself out of her wandering thoughts and forced a smile. “I’m fine!”
Just as she was about to continue speaking, a loud noise erupted from the bathroom first the sharp bang of the door being flung open, followed by the slap-slap of slippers stepping through water.
Gu Yueyi seemed to be wailing like a ghost, her voice booming: “What the hell?! Why’s the water cut off?!”
She appeared to be struggling to get dressed, fumbling against the bathroom handle, occasionally letting out a curse or two.
Both Yan Xunzhen and Du Zuilan clearly heard it. A sudden silence fell between them as they exchanged glances, torn between amusement and the inexplicable quickening of their heartbeats.
Gu Yueyi emerged in an oversized T-shirt, her dripping hair still wet, who knew if she’d even rinsed out the conditioner properly grumbling as she toweled herself off. “Zuilan, I swear, this production team is unbelievable. They cut the water after just ten minutes! I barely even washed my hair. If I’d taken my usual shower, I’d—”
“President Yan?”
It wasn’t entirely unexpected, so she wasn’t too surprised. She simply continued, “The crew probably won’t come at eleven now. They’re about to show up and film my embarrassing moment.”
Yan Xunzhen sighed with genuine sympathy. “That’s rough.”
Gu Yueyi shook her head. “It’s fine. Also hey, Zuilan, why don’t you go stay with President Yan? There’s no water here, you can’t even shower.”
Both women froze, their expressions unchanging.
Gu Yueyi, however, doubled down on her matchmaking efforts. “Look, look! The crew’s here! Once they’re done filming, it’ll be fine.”
Yan Xunzhen and Du Zuilan turned their heads.
Sure enough, the production team arrived in full force, cameras in tow, ready to capture Gu Yueyi’s predicament. The director himself was among them, beaming as he approached only to falter slightly upon spotting Yan Xunzhen before quickly mustering an enthusiastic greeting.
“President Yan! What brings you here? I was just about to visit you. Would you be willing to make an appearance on our show?”
Yan Xunzhen stepped aside from the doorway, her tone cool yet laced with warning. “I’d love to, but your show seems a bit shady. And I hate shady.”
The director’s sweat instantly turned cold. He knew all too well how terrifying Junyan Entertainment was crushing him would be like stepping on an ant. He regretted groveling to Ainor earlier; now that this formidable figure was displeased, he had no idea how to fix it. “We’d never dare! If you have any suggestions, just say the word, and we’ll change things immediately.”
“It’s nothing major. Just that someone had the audacity to barge up to my friend’s door in the dead of night, how utterly uncivilized.” Her smile didn’t reach her eyes. “Frankly, I don’t think my friend is very safe staying here. And on top of that, you cut off their water while they were showering?”
“It’s for the show’s effect, haha!”
Yan Xunzhen didn’t bother responding. She watched as the crew exchanged a few words with Gu Yueyi and Du Zuilan, recording the water-cutoff incident before hastily retreating all except the director, who lingered at the door to bid Yan Xunzhen farewell.
“In that case, since your shoot tomorrow morning isn’t too early, and this place is quite close to my house, I’ll take Zuilan and the others with me first. Is that alright?” Although Yan Xunzhen’s words sounded like a discussion, her tone wasn’t particularly negotiable.
The director, knowing he was in the wrong, could only nod and agree with an awkward laugh.
After pressuring the director, Yan Xunzhen turned to Du Zuilan, her entire demeanor softening. Her voice carried genuine inquiry and a gentle hesitation, as if afraid of being rejected: “Is that okay?”
“Mm.”
Gu Yueyi, eavesdropping nearby, closed her eyes in sheer bliss upon hearing their exchange.
“You two go ahead. I’ve already showered, so I won’t move. Thanks, and goodnight!”
Du Zuilan smiled.
Noticing the faint redness at the tips of Yan Xunzhen’s ears, as if she were slightly embarrassed, Du Zuilan gave a soft tug at her sleeve and replied, “Mm. Alright.”
Yan Xunzhen’s claim that it was “just a street or two away” was indeed accurate especially since the crew had arranged for them to stay in a residential area in the city center. However…
When the castle came into view, even the usually composed Du Zuilan couldn’t help but freeze in surprise.
The entrance was a grand bronze gate, imposing and majestic. The architecture was distinctly Baroque, infused with classical Western aristocratic elegance, yet subtly blended with hints of Eastern aesthetics. The fusion wasn’t jarring in the slightest; instead, it made Du Zuilan want to inhale the fragrance of the blooming roses in the garden.
Two lamps glowed warmly at the entrance, their soft, golden light instantly evoking a sense of belonging.
This was, frankly, several times more luxurious than the castle the production team had spent a fortune renting from some duke!
Yet, despite its grandeur, the castle felt eerily quiet when the two stepped inside. The only sign of life was a drowsy maid half-heartedly wiping a table in the distance.
The furnishings inside were all aged, many of them antiques that made one hesitant to touch them.
“Have you been staying here these past few days?”
Yan Xunzhen gestured for the maid to turn on the lights, her gaze sweeping over the distant displays before she sighed helplessly. “No.”
She rubbed her temples. “There’s a lounge behind my office. These past couple of days, I’ve just been too lazy to come back, so I slept at the company instead.”
Seeing the faint concern in Du Zuilan’s expression, she couldn’t help but chuckle softly before turning to the maid. “Is the room ready?”
The maid hurriedly replied, “Your room has been cleaned and is spotless, you can move in right away.”
Yan Xunzhen paused, then added, “What about the guest room?”
The maid froze, looking utterly bewildered before her face flushed crimson, then paled. Tears seemed to well up in her eyes as she stammered, “I, I’m sorry, Miss. I didn’t realize you needed a guest room. I’ll go prepare it right now.”
“Wait.” Du Zuilan stopped her gently. “There’s no need.”
Yan Xunzhen looked up in confusion.
Du Zuilan, with an air of pure and complete trust, extended her slender, fair fingers and tugged at Yan Xunzhen’s sleeve. Her beautiful black hair slipped from the back of her neck to the front, intertwining with the strands of the stunning woman beside her. The warmth of their breaths was palpable as she whispered, “Can I come with you?”
Come with her?
Come with her to do what? Sleep?
Yan Xunzhen’s mind went blank for a moment before her face flushed crimson. Her plump, alluring lips parted slightly, revealing the tip of her tongue, which she then bit down on. Finally, she stammered out a hesitant, “Okay.”
This must be Du Zuilan testing me!
The maid, relieved, quickly interjected, “Miss, the hot water is ready. If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to ask.”
Yan Xunzhen absentmindedly acknowledged, her back stiff as she and Du Zuilan made their way upstairs.
Beyond the winding, vintage staircase lay her bedroom, a space left to her by her parents, lavishly decorated with a towering 2.8-meter-wide bed. Four European-style pillars stretched from floor to ceiling, supporting a canopy of opulent brocade. The rest of the room exuded a retro ambiance, with deep red velvet curtains swaying gently under the dim, golden light.
The bathroom also housed a bathtub. The sound of running water, though not particularly loud, commanded Yan Xunzhen’s full attention.
Du Zuilan was inside.
She didn’t want to focus on it, but her ears and mind seemed beyond her control. Even the faintest sounds conjured vivid images: Du Zuilan’s soft lips, her lashes misted with steam, her gentle eyes brimming with dewy tears looking utterly vulnerable and easy to tease.
Scolding herself, she buried her face in the blankets.
Just as she lifted her head again, the sound of water from the bathroom ceased.
Unlike Gu Yueyi, Du Zuilan moved as lightly as a kitten, her footsteps silent against the floor, like soft paws gliding over a carpet. Even dressing made no sound. It wasn’t until she drew back the canopy that the woman on the bed so breathtaking it made hearts flutter snapped out of her daze.
Yan Xunzhen’s voice was hoarse. “You’re done?”
The sight before her was even more overwhelming than she’d imagined.
Du Zuilan wore a thin silk nightgown that clung to her curves, accentuating every graceful line. The corners of her eyes were tinged pink, her lips a soft red, even her collarbones and rounded knees flushed a delicate hue. She looked like a flawless BJD doll, so exquisite it felt wrong to touch her.
Her damp hair dripped water, each droplet tracing a path down her shoulders and neck.
Du Zuilan’s lips curled slightly. “Mhm.”
Yan Xunzhen’s heart pounded wildly. Propping herself up on her arms, she inadvertently revealed her own curves to Du Zuilan before sitting up and swinging one leg off the bed.
The angle was just right Du Zuilan’s body seemed to nestle perfectly into her embrace. Their opposing positions only brought them closer, pressing them tightly together.
Though unintentional, Yan Xunzhen’s elbow and forearm rested against the bedside, her upper body pressed flush against Du Zuilan’s through the thin fabric of their robes. She could almost feel the rise and fall of Du Zuilan’s chest with each breath and the softness against her scattered every thought in her mind.
“Thud” she shifted her supporting stance, her back now fully pressed against the bed as her arms wrapped tightly around Du Zuilang nestled in her embrace.
The girl was as soft and pliant as a kitten.
This position was utterly disastrous.
The young woman’s damp hair still clung to her skin, and the occasional drop of cold water sliding down jolted Yan Xunyi back to her senses.
She inwardly chastised herself for two whole seconds.
Hastily regaining her composure, she stammered, “I, I’ll help you dry your hair.”
But the act of rising was thrown into disarray by the slender arms still coiled around her neck.
A dizzying whirl later, Yan Xunyi found herself.
Pinning Du Zuilang beneath her once again!
This position was even worse!!
