The Scummy Alpha Who Transmigrated Into a Book Was Tricked by the Actress Omega - Chapter 11
For a moment, silence fell over the room. But the heated discussion that erupted afterward turned the bald-headed Mr. Wang’s face green and purple with rage.
When the director saw that the newcomer was Yan Xunzhen, his eyes widened in shock. After all, when he had previously invited her, her assistant had outright refused, saying President Yan was too busy. The very person who had just sent him slinking back in defeat had now arrived on her own and with such an displeased expression, no less. He couldn’t help but wonder if he had somehow, unwittingly, offended this formidable figure.
He hurriedly stood up, bowing respectfully as he said, “President Yan, you’re here! Please, have a seat, of course, I’ll give you my spot, hahahaha.”
Yan Xunzhen smiled. Truth be told, she had never put on such a show at these kinds of dinners before though, of course, no one had ever been foolish enough to cross her in the first place.
So now, she stood with her arms crossed, her domineering aura on full display. The unconscious pressure radiating from her as an Alpha made many in the room tremble slightly.
“Director, keep your seat,” Yan Xunzhen said. She had no reason to deliberately target someone unrelated her aim was solely that disgusting bald-headed Wang. “But I see Mr. Wang’s spot looks quite nice, nice and spacious. If you don’t mind, why don’t you move aside?”
Sweat beaded on Mr. Wang’s forehead.
Though he had “secured Tianneng’s backing,” giving him the confidence to boss around Du Zuilan, an actress he believed he could easily crush facing Yan Xunzhen was an entirely different matter. There was no way he could stand up to her.
He had assumed Yan Xunzhen was just a playgirl, toying with Du Zuilan for fun. How could she possibly come all the way to this insignificant dinner just for Du Zuilan?!
Even as he cursed her a hundred times in his mind, he had no choice but to save face and quickly stand up, pulling the chair out for her with exaggerated deference.
Yan Xunzhen glanced at Du Zuilan, who stood silently to the side. Even from just this glimpse, she could guess how many cold stares and slights the woman had endured earlier.
So, in the next moment, she ignored Mr. Wang entirely. Instead, she turned to Du Zuilan, her gaze filled with nothing but genuine concern and sincerity. “Why don’t you sit down and rest for a bit?”
If not for Yan Xunzhen’s intimidating presence, the entire room might have gasped in shock. Damn, you came all this way, intimidated Mr. Wang, just to back Du Zuilan up?
Yan Xunzhen’s reasoning was simple: she was going to win anyway, and there was no need to spare any courtesy for such a petty man. Might as well let Du Zuilan enjoy the moment!
Du Zuilan had always been sharp and quick to pick up on cues. Without resisting Yan Xunzhen’s kindness, she quietly took a seat, minimizing her presence.
Yan Xunzhen then sat down as well, maintaining a normal social distance between them. A playful smile curled her red lips as she teased in a light, friendly tone, “You should’ve told me you were coming. I would’ve joined you earlier so you didn’t have to run around so much.”
Du Zuilan smiled faintly but said nothing.
Unfazed by the lack of response, Yan Xunzhen smoothly took the seat someone else had hastily cleared for her. Watching Mr. Wang awkwardly standing there, she feigned surprise and explained, “I’m pretty sure I told you before, Mr. Wang, Zuilan is my friend. Did you forget?”
Mr. Wang looked like he was about to vomit from suppressed rage, but he still managed to mutter, “No.”
“Since you didn’t forget, yet still treated my friend like this, that’s just a bit too bold, don’t you think?”
The smile on her face instantly faded, her gaze sharp and intimidating. After years of maintaining rationality and composure, she had unexpectedly transmigrated into the body of a scumbag Alpha and was now experiencing the rare sensation of “oppressing others with power.”
The room fell silent at once. After a long pause, it was the director who stepped in to smooth things over: “Please don’t be angry!”
Yan Xunzhen curled her lips slightly. “I’m not angry, just a little surprised. Who exactly is the one who refuses to change their ways?”
With that, she smiled and said, “I arrived late and delayed everyone’s time. Later, I’ll give each of you a red envelope to wish everyone a smooth start to the production.”
Hearing this, the crowd realized she wasn’t upset with them and collectively exhaled in relief, gradually resuming their chatter. One bold Omega even called out loudly, “Thank you, President Yan!”
As the atmosphere lightened, the director whispered a few words to the waitstaff to serve the dishes. The only awkward figure, President Wang, found a seat in the corner and sat down quietly.
However, moments later, the director seemed poised to stand up and propose a toast to her. Yan Xunzhen couldn’t help but click her tongue inwardly, already planning to excuse herself with the excuse of having taken cephalosporin capsules.
Suddenly, a “glass of wine” appeared before her.
Du Zuilan silently pushed it toward her without a word. When Yan Xunzhen sniffed it carefully, she detected no alcohol, it was likely something Du Zuilan had discreetly prepared earlier.
Yan Xunzhen accepted it and clinked glasses with the director smoothly. As expected, the taste was nothing more than cool, plain water.
After toasting Yan Xunzhen, the director went on to toast the other executives one by one. Given Yan Xunzhen’s status, no one dared to pressure her to drink, so she set down her glass and murmured softly, “Thank you.”
Du Zuilan gave a slight shake of her head.
Yan Xunzhen thought for a moment, brushing aside the strands of hair that obscured her long lashes, and asked in a low voice, “That President Wang, what did he say about you?”
“More or less the same as before,” Du Zuilan replied succinctly, offering no further details before falling silent again.
Yan Xunzhen knew that in such settings, it was rare to eat one’s fill, these gatherings were mostly about toasting. But seeing Du Zuilan barely touch her chopsticks and recalling her frail, almost wind-swept figure, she couldn’t help but say, “Why not eat a little? You haven’t had dinner, have you?”
Du Zuilan replied, “No need.”
After a brief hesitation, she added quietly, “It’s fine. I’m not hungry.”
Yan Xunzhen nodded and didn’t press further.
Though the two of them remained quiet, others in the room were anything but. After a burst of rowdiness, the private dining area descended into mild chaos. The director seemed thoroughly drunk, toasting from one end of the table to the other, while the producer trailing behind him wore a foolish grin, insisting on respectfully toasting every executive present.
When they reached Yan Xunzhen, the producer bowed his head and spoke deferentially, but his toast was delivered with excessive force. His vision apparently blurred, he raised his glass higher than Yan Xunzhen’s. Realizing his mistake, his hand trembled, and he hastily lowered it.
Yan Xunzhen hadn’t anticipated this move either, and her wrist nearly tipped, spilling some water.
The producer looked as though he wanted to slap himself twice, but Yan Xunzhen, generally easygoing, didn’t get angry. She simply set down her glass. Someone nearby handed her a warm towel, which she used to dab her arm lightly.
The producer quickly apologized, “I’m so sorry, Miss Yan, I truly didn’t notice. My sincerest apologies, please don’t be upset.”
“I won’t be upset, don’t worry,” Yan Xunzhen replied with a faint smile, turning to pick up her glass and clinking it lightly with the producer’s.
But the moment the liquid touched her lips, she sensed something was off beyond its coolness, there was a sharp, alcoholic bite!
No way!
A headache surged through her. In such a formal setting, she hadn’t worried about anyone spiking drinks, so she’d taken the glass without hesitation. Yet, someone had taken the liberty of adding alcohol to hers.
Though diluted, the heat rushed down her throat almost instantly. Her scent gland pulsed like a second heart, and before she could stop it, a delicate fragrance of West Lake Longjing tea wafted into the air. Du Zuilan, standing closest to her, caught it most clearly.
She forced herself to finish the conversation with the producer before excusing herself and standing up.
Rubbing her throbbing temples, she reached for her phone to call her driver she needed to get home, fast.
Her mind was already fogging up, but she still remembered to whisper to Du Zuilan that if she disliked the event, she could use Yan Xunzhen’s departure as an excuse to leave early too.
After murmuring the words, she pinched her wrist hard to stay lucid.
Yan Xunzhen hurried downstairs, leaving the noise and chatter far behind. The evening breeze carried a lingering chill, but it did little to sober her up. The alcohol’s warmth, fanned by the wind, only made her head swim. Her scent gland throbbed relentlessly, the discomfort impossible to ignore, all she wanted was to collapse into bed.
Her driver, already on standby, was waiting by the curb and opened the car door for her.
Her long, pale legs crossed and uncrossed restlessly, revealing a faint flush. Even the plush seat felt unbearable beneath her. Waves of dark hair tumbled over her full lips and slender neck as she slumped back.
The driver averted his gaze, moving to the front once she was settled.
Then, the rear door swung open, a slender, pale hand pulling it wide.
