- Chapter 1 - Transmigrating into a Book
“President Yan!
“President Yan?”
Yan Xunzhen’s consciousness slowly awakened, her still-stiff body suddenly jolting downward.
The person in the front seat of the car heard the movement and continued, “President Yan, we’ll arrive at Hualing First People’s Hospital in ten minutes. Miss Du Zuilan should have already completed her discharge procedures.”
Fragmented memories rushed through her mind like a whirlwind, and this sentence acted as the final piece of the puzzle, seamlessly integrating the unfamiliar fragments into a coherent narrative.
It seemed she had transmigrated into a book.
Specifically, into a yuri novel she had read halfway through as the scum alpha who shared her name, a greedy and domineering character who sought to forcibly take Du Zuilan, an omega as beautiful and forbidden as the fruit of Eden.
Naturally, Du Zuilan was unwilling. But the scum alpha came from a powerful family, while Du Zuilan was from an ordinary background. Worse still, her family had been controlled by the scum alpha to coerce her into submission. In the end, the heroine couldn’t escape the scum alpha’s grasp.
If that were all, it might have been bearable. But the original scum alpha, after obtaining her, treated her like trash abandoning her, letting others trample over her, cheating and indulging in pleasure.
Utterly inhuman.
So, in the end, the scum alpha got her comeuppance. Du Zuilan’s admirers joined forces to ruin her career, sending her to prison, where she met a miserable end.
Yan Xunzhen had left a scathing comment at the time:
“This kind of scum alpha should just be castrated.”
The original author replied: “No problem, let’s dig out her scent gland and feed it to the dogs!”
Remembering this, Yan Xunzhen shuddered and instinctively touched the back of her neck.
Thankfully, she wasn’t disabled.
It seemed the plot hadn’t yet reached the point of no return.
There was still time to change things.
First, once she figured out the original body’s habits and work, she would immediately release Du Zuilan’s family from coercion. Second, she would stop forcing the heroine and spouting those ridiculous domineering CEO lines, she’d treat Du Zuilan as an equal, maybe even become friends. Finally, she could help pave the way for Du Zuilan’s acting career, helping her achieve her dreams. Surely then, neither Du Zuilan nor her admirers would let her meet a bad end!
Though she had genuinely adored Du Zuilan while reading the novel, the thought of the scum alpha’s fate made Yan Xunzhen too afraid to entertain any improper thoughts.
By the time she finished organizing her thoughts, the driver respectfully announced, “President Yan, we’ve arrived at the hospital.”
Yan Xunzhen steeled herself, her heart tightening.
The driver stepped out to open the door for her, and she gracefully exited the car, her long, flawless legs smooth and pale under the light.
The five-centimeter heels brought her height close to 178 cm, and her reflection in the hospital’s glass doors exuded an almost intimidating aura. The trench coat she wore couldn’t hide her striking figure.
Before entering, Yan Xunzhen paused. The blurred yet clear reflection in the glass showed a face nearly identical to her own familiar yet foreign.
After a moment, she stepped inside.
After asking the front desk nurse for Du Zuilan’s room number, Yan Xunzhen headed straight to the fifth floor.
She walked softly, careful not to disturb others, so by the time she reached the hospital room door, the person inside hadn’t noticed her yet.
The woman sitting sideways on the bed was pale.
She wore a light yellow cardigan, the clothes underneath slightly too big for her. The loose collar revealed delicate, slender collarbones.
Dazzlingly white.
Her beautiful, dewy almond-shaped eyes brimmed with tears, their rims flushed red. Beneath her delicate, upturned nose were slightly parted pink lips. Her face, no larger than a palm, was breathtakingly lovely, no innocent “little white flower” in the entertainment industry could compare to her innate purity and allure, so unique and natural.
She was like an intoxicating poppy, unaware of her own allure, drawing people in and tempting them to sin. So beautiful it was heartaching.
This was the female lead, Du Zuilán.
Suddenly, Yan Xunzhen felt a sharp pain in her temples as a flood of fragmented, unfamiliar memories flashed through her mind.
“What are you doing? Did I say you could pack up and leave alone?” The original scumbag Alpha’s high heels clicked noisily against the floor, grating on the nerves, her expression irritable. “Such a cheap slut. Playing the victim while acting like a whore.”
Du Zuilán’s face turned deathly pale, too weak to argue, only murmuring faintly, “I didn’t.”
The scumbag Alpha sneered, lunging forward to grab her collar, shoving her as she spat, “You didn’t? Dressed like that, you were clearly asking for it, weren’t you?”
The tears pooled in Du Zuilán’s eyes suddenly spilled over, her icy hands powerless against the scumbag’s actions.
She turned her head away weakly, her gaze falling on the script beside her, her dream.
The scumbag Alpha gritted her teeth, following her line of sight before adding, “What? How long are you going to keep playing hard to get? You won’t even let me touch you during your heat? Fine, then you can stay in this manor forever, scrubbing floors like a servant!”
Du Zuilán’s tangerine wine scent turned bitter with sorrow as she pleaded, “I’ll do anything. I have a shoot tomorrow, could you please just.”
“A shoot?”
The scumbag Alpha scoffed. Releasing Du Zuilán, she picked up the script under the latter’s disbelieving gaze and tore it to shreds.
“A shoot? Hah. Woman, you’ll never escape my grasp in this lifetime.”
“You want to chase your dreams? Ridiculous. An omega like you is just a hole to be fucked. Thinking of flaunting yourself in public? Keep dreaming.”
“You’ll never get the chance in this life.”
Large teardrops rolled down Du Zuilán’s cheeks.
The unfamiliar memories surged like a tide, then receded just as quickly.
Yan Xunzhen took a deep breath, steadying herself before rapping three times on the open hospital room door.
Du Zuilán, who had been bent over her script, looked up in confusion. When she saw it was Yan Xunzhen, she abruptly stood.
Her soft yellow sweater made her appear even more fragile, so much so that the sudden stumble made one fear she might collapse.
Yan Xunzhen instinctively moved to catch her, but before she could take more than two steps, Du Zuilán steadied herself against the bedside table, head bowed, her expression unreadable.
Yan Xunzhen stopped, unfazed by the awkwardness, and cleared her throat earnestly. “Hello.”
Du Zuilán’s pale fingers tightened around the edge of the table, silent.
Yan Xunzhen continued, “You probably despise me right now, wondering if I’ve come up with some new way to torment you. But I swear, I haven’t.”
Though she wasn’t the original owner of this body, the sins of the past weren’t hers to bear. Yet now that she had become “Yan Xunzhen,” she had no choice but to face this mess.
Claim she was a transmigrator? She’d likely be hauled off to a mental institution.
She apologized sincerely, “I’m sorry.”
Du Zuilan’s eyes shimmered as she gazed at the radiant woman before her, whose face had shed its former impatience and repulsiveness, now exuding elegance and sincerity. Even the bow she offered was impeccably polite to the extreme.
Seeing Du Zuilan hesitantly lift her gaze, Yan Xunzhen decided to strike while the iron was hot, continuing her heartfelt confession: “I’ve come to my senses. I’ll do my best to make amends for all my past wrongs and compensate you.”
The memories from moments ago reminded Yan Xunzhen that this was still the early stage, the scumbag Alpha hadn’t yet “claimed” the female lead. Instead, she had deliberately pressured her, allowed her subordinates to persecute her, and even taken away her suppressants during her heat, expecting her to beg for mercy. Instead, she had driven her to the brink, forcing her into emergency hospital care.
“I was immature before, easily swayed by others, and in pursuing my selfish desires, I hurt you. For that, I am truly sorry.” Yan Xunzhen placed a hand over her chest and bowed again. “I swear I will dismiss those people and punish myself as well.”
As she spoke, a searing pain tore through her chest, nearly suffocating her. She hunched over, frozen in place, beads of cold sweat breaking out on her forehead.
She realized this must be the remnants of the original host’s consciousness. Now that Yan Xunzhen was sincerely apologizing and turning over a new leaf actions diametrically opposed to the scumbag Alpha’s nature, the lingering malice was resisting.
Involuntarily stiffening, she felt the two consciousnesses locked in a fierce struggle. Then, suppressing the turmoil within, she raised her head to look at Du Zuilan.
Du Zuilan was tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear with delicate fingers. Though she seemed fearful, she held her composure, meeting Yan Xunzhen’s gaze with quiet dignity. “President Yan, I truly wish I could believe you.”
The faint scent of orange wine in the air grew slightly stronger, tinged with bitterness.
Yan Xunzhen opened her mouth, then closed it again.
Du Zuilan clearly didn’t believe her.
Well, that was understandable. No one could instantly trust that their tormentor had genuinely reformed. It would take time.
Yan Xunzhen comforted herself, forcing down the pain as her gaze shifted from Du Zuilan to the script on the bedside table. It was filled with notes and character analyses, its pages slightly wrinkled from frequent handling.
Noticing Yan Xunzhen’s attention on the script, Du Zuilan’s carefully maintained composure began to crack, revealing the vulnerability beneath.
There was sorrow. Pleading.
Like a fledgling bird with a broken wing, trapped in an inescapable cage, she finally exposed the soft down at her neck, gently brushing against Yan Xunzhen’s palm.
Yan Xunzhen’s heart skipped a beat.
“President Yan, I have a shoot tomorrow. If you could just, let me go,” Du Zuilan murmured weakly, seeming slightly dizzy, “that would be enough.”
“A shoot?”
Realizing this was a perfect opportunity, Yan Xunzhen brightened, ready to say, “Of course, go ahead.” But suddenly, her voice caught in her throat!
Agony surged through her again, fiercer than before, as if something dark, vile, and restless was clawing its way out.
Yan Xunzhen felt her mouth move against her will, uttering words eerily reminiscent of the scumbag Alpha from her memories:
“Acting, cough ha, woman, let me tell you.”
Yan Xunzhen bit her lower lip hard, knowing she couldn’t let all her efforts go to waste. Du Zuilan cared most about her dreams, if she said it outright, everything would be ruined.
But looking at Du Zuilan’s pale face and the expression of near-hopelessness in her eyes.
The next moment, she pinched her own thigh viciously.
“Haha, you’ll never, verescape the embrace of work in this lifetime.”
An awkward atmosphere instantly filled the entire hospital room.
But Yan Xunzhen exhaled in relief, as if a weight had been lifted. She pinched herself again, cursing the original owner of this body—that scumbag Alpha idiot once more in her heart.
Fortunately, she had managed to twist her words into something like this. Seeing the slight relaxation in Du Zuilan’s gaze, she felt much better.
“Never escaping the embrace of work” meant, to Du Zuilan, the freedom to chase her dreams forever.
It was exactly what Du Zuilan wanted.
It seemed Du Zuilan had also realized the hidden meaning behind Yan Xunzhen’s words. The pheromones she had been unable to control earlier shifted noticeably, the bitter sting fading into a light, refreshing fragrance.
But Yan Xunzhen suddenly felt a little dizzy.
Not the pain of wrestling with the original owner’s consciousness, but something gentler, like a sweet, hazy dream.
Yan Xunzhen: “…”
She hadn’t passed out when transmigrating into this book. She hadn’t passed out while fighting the original owner’s consciousness. Surely, she wasn’t about to faint now, drunk on the heroine’s pheromones?!
