The Scumbag Who Bowed for Money - Chapter 44
“I won’t leave with anyone else.”
Xie Yuanwei leaned against the trunk of a tree. She tilted her head slightly and said softly, “The scenery here is really beautiful.”
“Do you like it?” came the response.
“No, I don’t,” she replied.
Le Shi laughed again. “Why not?”
Xie Yuanwei gave a quiet hum, sounding both proud and a little shy. “I’ll tell you when we meet.”
The omega let out a small laugh and sighed. Even through the phone, her mood felt lighter and more cheerful. “Xie Yuanwei, it won’t be long now. Very soon, I’ll find out.”
The alpha lowered her head. She watched the tip of her shoe stir the fallen leaves, her voice drifting softly into the air before she caught it and held it close. “I understand.”
“Are you tired?” she asked gently.
Le Shi paused for a moment before answering. Her voice was calm and content. “Sometimes, I feel like this whole world is just a dream. If I’m not careful, I might wake up.”
Xie Yuanwei raised her head and took a deep breath. “No. Everything is real.”
“…I’m glad to hear that,” Le Shi replied quietly. “I’m going to hang up now.”
“Alright.”
Xie Yuanwei put her phone away. She stood there silently for a while before turning back. Yan Yu and Bai Zhiqu were still teasing each other, but they stopped when they saw her returning.
Bai Zhiqu walked over to her, rocking slightly as she coughed lightly and asked, “Want to go to the beach?”
“There are quite a lot of people. Do you want to come with us?”
Since they had extended the invitation, Xie Yuanwei agreed without hesitation. She smiled, and her eyes curved softly with warmth. “Sure.”
This town had a coastline. Xie Yuanwei walked alone along the edge of the beach, leaving a trail of footprints behind her. The waves quickly washed them away. She took a deep breath and pulled out her phone to take a picture for Le Shi.
But there was no reply.
Not until later that night, just before she went to bed, did Le Shi finally send a message:
Countdown: 5
Xie Yuanwei stared at the screen for a long time before replying with a single question mark. The omega did not reply again.
Over the next few days, the same pattern repeated. Every morning began with a message, followed by another countdown number. Sometimes, the alpha would sit still for a long time, thinking deeply, and eventually reached a conclusion.
Maybe it was finally time for her to go back.
She still did not know what things were like on Le Shi’s side. Yan Yu and Bai Zhiqu did not share any information with her, and there was nothing online either. Still, Xie Yuanwei trusted that the omega could handle whatever came her way.
“Miss Xie.”
It was the fifth day that Wu Wu came to find her. Ever since she had moved in, Wu Wu had shown a strong interest in her. Even though Xie Yuanwei repeatedly said she did not like her and that Le Shi was the only one in her heart, Wu Wu still did not give up.
She simply said, “I can feel that our pheromones are very compatible.”
“Pheromone compatibility?” Xie Yuanwei was puzzled. “But what does that really mean?”
“Pheromones are just a way of expressing affection. They don’t mean it is love.”
Xie Yuanwei sighed and turned to look at her. “Good morning. I’m heading out.”
She walked beside Yan Yu, clearly frustrated. In a quiet voice, she asked, “Why hasn’t she stopped even after being rejected so many times?”
Yan Yu didn’t seem to mind. “That’s love, I guess.”
“Love? That’s ridiculous.”
Xie Yuanwei laughed despite herself. Just as she stepped outside the guesthouse, her phone gave a special alert. It was a message from Le Shi.
The alpha opened it. It read:
Countdown complete. Look up.
