The Scumbag Who Bowed for Money - Chapter 35
“Xie Yuanwei, where are you?”
Le Shi didn’t hesitate to call her. The phone was picked up within seconds. She was striding out of the office when, the moment she opened the door, she bumped straight into someone.
Xie Yuanwei’s voice came from beside her, soft and smiling.
“Right here.”
Right beside you. Right in front of you.
After finishing her lunch, Xie Yuanwei had originally planned to leave. She started the engine but stopped almost immediately. She turned it off, sat quietly for a few seconds, then stepped out of the car and headed back upstairs.
Why should she always be the one to hold back? Brave Yuanwei deserved a chance to fight too.
When Le Shi saw her standing there, her head lowered as she smiled.
“I thought you had already left.”
Xie Yuanwei gave a soft laugh.
“I’m just as qualified to be called a high-quality alpha. Why should your assistant get to make things up?”
“You knew and still walked away?”
Le Shi grabbed her hand and pulled her back into the office. She turned to Zhu He with a polite expression.
“Apologies for the scene. That must have been awkward.”
But Zhu He didn’t seem to mind. Her gaze lingered on Le Shi for a moment before turning to Xie Yuanwei. She smiled, the look in her eyes lightly provocative.
“Not at all. In fact, it only made me admire you more, President Le. See you around. No need to walk me out.”
Xie Yuanwei calmly stepped aside. She met Zhu He’s gaze directly before looking away, not showing a hint of hesitation.
After Zhu He left, Le Shi finally turned to her assistant, who had worked with her the longest. She sat down on the couch and poured her a glass of water.
“It’s been five years, hasn’t it? That’s a long time.”
“President Le, I—”
“No need to explain. Go collect your pay.”
Le Shi took a sip of water, then lifted her eyes to look at her assistant.
“Let me put it this way. You’re competent, and we do have some history. We can even be considered friends. But personal and professional matters should be kept separate. You’re not the only assistant I’ve had. The others are just as capable, but none of them have ever overstepped like this.”
“This time, you took it upon yourself to manage something personal. Next time, who’s to say it won’t be a business matter?”
The assistant wanted to say more, but Le Shi clearly wasn’t interested in continuing the conversation. Her attention shifted to Xie Yuanwei, and her expression softened with clear satisfaction.
“Why are you still standing here?”
The assistant finally turned and left.
Seizing the moment, Le Shi pressed a hand on Xie Yuanwei’s shoulder, and the alpha let herself fall backward onto the couch.
“Why are you lying down?”
Xie Yuanwei closed her eyes and looked completely resigned.
“Out of energy. Just need to lie here for a bit.”
Le Shi laughed quietly. She leaned forward, kneeling on the couch, and looked down at Xie Yuanwei’s face.
“Tell me the truth. Did you cry?”
The alpha immediately sat up, clearly annoyed.
“I’m not that into crying.”
“I just felt stubborn. Why should I be told to leave and actually leave? I wanted to stay.”
Le Shi nodded.
“And what else?”
Xie Yuanwei lowered her voice a little.
“You said you’d have lunch. You said you wanted me to cook it myself.”
“Where’s the food?”
“I ate it.”
Le Shi smiled even more and looked at her gently.
“If you ever went digging for wild herbs, I bet you’d clear out the whole mountain.”
Xie Yuanwei understood the meaning behind her words. She smiled but didn’t respond.
Instead, the omega continued.
“Xie Yuanwei, you can let yourself go a little more. I was actually already prepared to coax you.”
“Then do it now.”
“You know that’s not what I meant.”
Xie Yuanwei shifted slightly, and silence settled between them again. The alpha bit her lip, lowered her eyes, and said softly.
“It’s alright. I’ve already sorted through my feelings. The issue is over.”
She glanced at her.
“So, are you coming home for dinner?”
