The Scumbag Who Bowed for Money - Chapter 32
“I’m heading to work now.”
Le Shi looked at Xie Yuanwei, who had climbed back into bed again. She couldn’t hide the smile in her voice.
“Why are you lying down again?”
After making breakfast earlier that morning, Xie Yuanwei had gone back to sleep. The alpha muttered lazily,
“I’ve completely given up.”
“You’re really not going to the office?”
“Don’t feel like it.”
Le Shi nodded.
“Alright then. I’m off.”
Xie Yuanwei turned her head slightly, her eyes half closed.
“Be careful on the way.”
The omega gave a quiet response, didn’t say anything more, took her breakfast, and left. The alpha stayed in bed for a while longer, finally getting up around nine o’clock. She sat there in a daze before slowly climbing out of bed.
It had been a long time since she had felt this relaxed. In the first few days after arriving in this world, she had been tensed and overwhelmed. Now, at last, some of that weight was starting to lift.
Xie Yuanwei made herself a bowl of noodles, but she didn’t really have much of an appetite. She suddenly thought of the movie she had watched the night before. It had actually been quite interesting.
She considered it for a moment and walked into that other room. Le Shi probably hadn’t spent much time on it, because it was mostly empty. Xie Yuanwei thought it would be nice to have a small table or a beanbag chair in there.
She found the movie and sat on the couch. The story picked up right where it had ended last night. After Su Ya killed her first target, her next goal became the group of children. But she wasn’t in a hurry. Instead, she chose to get close to them.
Those children had already grown into adults. They apologized for what they had done in the past and even treated Su Ya to a meal. Su Ya said she would forgive them. But later that night, on her way back, she stopped a car on a quiet road.
The driver was surprised to see her. The area was remote, and he hadn’t noticed when she appeared.
“Su Ya? What are you doing here?”
Su Ya asked if he could give her a ride. He said no, that he was headed a different way. Su Ya stepped back to the side of the road and replied with a smile in her voice,
“Oh, then go ahead.”
The car had barely started moving when Su Ya began to laugh. She closed her eyes and listened to the sound of the ghost chewing through the man’s brain. The car crashed into the guardrail. She walked over calmly, looked at the now unrecognizable body, gave a small smile, and started eating the man’s flesh.
Xie Yuanwei gasped. She blinked, ran a hand through her hair, and sat still for a few seconds before looking at the screen again. Su Ya moved fast. After killing the first, she immediately went after the others.
Her teamwork with the ghost was almost perfect. The camera never showed the ghost’s face. Xie Yuanwei’s breathing became shallow. Her eyes followed as Su Ya used a rope to strangle someone to death, then cut the flesh from their body with a knife, using every cruel method imaginable.
None of the scenes were censored. Everything looked real, disturbingly real. Even Xie Yuanwei, who thought she could handle gore, leaned back in discomfort.
Su Ya didn’t stop with just those people. Anyone still alive who had bullied her suffered a horrible fate. In the final scene, Su Ya stood at the edge of a cliff, laughing wildly at the camera.
In front of her stood the ghost she had raised. Su Ya whispered softly,
“I won’t forgive them. They all have to die.”
Then, without any hesitation, she jumped off the cliff. The screen went black. Behind the ghost stood another person. As they turned around, the camera revealed a mother and daughter who had shared a tragic life.
Su Ya had raised her own mother and turned herself into a vengeful spirit.
Xie Yuanwei suddenly froze. Her hands started to tremble. She stared at the credits scrolling across the screen, and then she couldn’t hold it in anymore. She rushed into the bathroom and threw up violently.
“So, satisfying,” she whispered with her eyes closed.
“If only I had a bit more courage.”
She sat on the cold bathroom floor for a long time. Knees bent, arms wrapped tightly around her legs, she leaned against the wall. Xie Yuanwei buried her head in her arms and stayed like that for a while before slowly lifting her head and walking back out.
She turned off the movie, watered the flowers in the garden, and messaged Le Shi to ask what she wanted for lunch. Xie said she could cook.
But Le Shi replied that she wanted to eat out and asked if Xie Yuanwei would join her.
Xie Yuanwei thought about it for a few seconds, pressing the back of her hand to her cheek. After a short pause, she agreed.
Xie Yuanwei: You choose the restaurant.
Le Shi: Alright, I need to get back to work now.
Xie Yuanwei: Okay.
The alpha put down her phone and looked out at the wind brushing over the garden. The flowers swayed gently in the breeze. She stared at them in silence, rubbing the edge of her shirt between her fingers. Suddenly, she had the strong urge to give Le Shi some flowers.
Once the thought appeared, she didn’t hesitate. She changed her clothes, grabbed her phone, and left the house. She didn’t bring anything else with her. She had no idea where the original owner of this body had lived, and she didn’t care. From what little she could remember, the former Xie Yuanwei spent her time partying and living in hotels.
She didn’t even have a proper bag, so she decided she would take this chance to buy a canvas tote.
She didn’t drive. Instead, she took a taxi. Luckily, there wasn’t much traffic at this hour. Soon, Xie Yuanwei arrived in the city center. It was bustling and full of life. She looked up at a huge screen playing a commercial for a brand called GG. When she realized she didn’t recognize the celebrity, she paused in confusion.
“How strange.”
It didn’t feel like visiting another city or traveling. Xie Yuanwei could clearly sense that this world was different. She moved with the crowd. The little dog animation on her phone wagged back and forth, and even if she had been crying, she would have still felt happy in that moment.
“Hello, welcome to the flower shop,” said the store clerk with a smile.
Xie Yuanwei glanced at her and gave a long “Mm.”
“I’d like to buy a bouquet as a gift. Do you have any recommendations?”
“Is it for someone special?” the clerk asked, still smiling.
The alpha paused for a few seconds before shaking her head.
“No, but she’s a very close friend.”
“In that case, these types are quite popular. Have a look.”
Xie Yuanwei looked over each bouquet carefully. The last time she had given roses, it was for Omega Day. So, what was the reason this time?
She hesitated. After thinking for a while, she finally said,
“Roses again. Please wrap a bouquet for me.”
“Of course. Just a moment.”
“Okay.”
She paid for the flowers and walked out holding the bouquet. When she passed a jewelry store, she stopped. A waist chain in the window had caught her eye. It was inlaid with sparkling blue gemstones and tiny white pearls…
She let out a soft hiss. After staring at the display for a while, she turned to leave. But after just a few steps, she stopped and walked back, stepping into the store with firm strides.
“Hello. I wanted to ask about the piece you have outside.”
“Xie Yuanwei, are you there yet?”
Le Shi leaned her head on her hand and turned on speaker mode. She spoke with a light grumble.
“I’m starving.”
“I’m on my way,” Xie Yuanwei replied quickly.
Just as she finished speaking, she pushed open the door and walked in. She was holding a large bouquet of roses, their bright red petals full of life. She tilted her head and looked at Le Shi.
“If you’re hungry, you should have started eating.”
Le Shi raised an eyebrow as she looked at the flowers in her hands.
“You bought flowers. Are they for me?”
Xie Yuanwei smiled.
“If not for you, then who else? Do you like them?”
The alpha placed the bouquet gently into the omega’s hands. When she saw the way Le Shi tried to hide her smile but couldn’t, Xie Yuanwei smiled too. Her happiness was clear and genuine.
Just as she pulled out a chair and sat down, she heard Le Shi speak softly beside her.
“That might not be the case.”
“What might not be?” Xie Yuanwei immediately sensed something behind those words. She answered quickly.
“I really bought them for you. No special reason. I just wanted to.”
Le Shi made a small sound of acknowledgment. Her tone was calm but slightly teasing.
“I saw Zheng Shunyu today. He said your admirers still miss you.”
Xie Yuanwei looked slightly troubled. She cleared her throat.
“I haven’t contacted any of them.”
“Who knows if that’s true or not,” Le Shi said as she glanced at her. A second later, she looked down and carefully placed the flowers to the side.
“But thank you. I really like them.”
“The kitten will be delivered to the house this afternoon,” Xie Yuanwei said. “Make sure you take good care of it.”
Le Shi waved to a waiter and asked for the menu. She handed it over to Xie Yuanwei.
“Here. Order whatever you like.”
Xie Yuanwei took the menu. When she saw the prices, her heart ached.
One dish was almost a thousand yuan. Was it made of gold?
Still, the alpha kept a calm expression and picked two dishes without showing any discomfort. As she looked through the menu, Le Shi spoke again.
“My lower back feels so sore today. I want to get a massage tonight. Do you want to come with me?”
When she heard the word sore, Xie Yuanwei’s gaze drifted toward the small box in her bag. Her thoughts went off track. Buying that gift had clearly been a moment of weakness, but she truly felt it suited Le Shi.
Le Shi had fair skin. She moved a lot when she slept, and her pajamas would often ride up. She had a toned waist. That accessory would look amazing on her.
“Xie Yuanwei.”
She looked up.
“Yes?”
Le Shi gave her a suspicious look.
“What were you thinking about? I asked you something and you didn’t even respond.”
“I was just lost in thought,” Xie Yuanwei said as she took a deep breath. “I think I’ll pass on the massage.”
Le Shi didn’t insist. They enjoyed the rest of their meal together.
After lunch, they each returned to their routines. Xie Yuanwei went home and found herself worrying again. She looked at the small box in her hands, wondering where to hide it. Eventually, she decided to put it inside her wardrobe. Le Shi usually didn’t go through her things, and even if she saw it, she probably wouldn’t open it.
After putting it away, she messaged Le Shi to ask if she would be home for dinner. The omega replied that she would come back and would reschedule the massage for another day. After getting her reply, the alpha happily went to prepare dinner.
Le Shi came home later than usual. After dinner, she was about to take a shower, but received a phone call and asked Xie Yuanwei to go in first.
“President Le.”
Just as she hung up the call, she heard Xie Yuanwei’s voice from the bathroom.
“Can you bring me a towel? I forgot to take one.”
The omega agreed and walked quickly to the wardrobe. She knew exactly which towel belonged to Xie Yuanwei. Just as she pulled it out, a small white box that had been sitting on top accidentally slipped out.
She bent down to pick it up, but the contents fell out before she could grab it.
Le Shi stared at the chain on the floor, caught off guard.
She picked it up and looked at it closely. It was clearly a waist chain.
Her lashes trembled, and her ears felt warm.
There was no way Xie Yuanwei had bought something like this for herself. That box definitely wasn’t there before. She must have bought it today.
“President Le, did you find it?”
The sound of water had stopped. Le Shi froze for a second when she heard her name.
She responded quietly, then lowered her gaze. A second later, she bit her lip.
It really was beautiful.
She found herself wanting to see what it would look like on her.
