The Scumbag Alpha's Plan to Save the Female Lead - Chapter 26
Chapter 26: (Start of V-Reverse)
“Persuade? If it’s about the light brain treatment, there’s no need to say anything.”
The woman in the qipao curved her lips, revealing a look of derision. Her fingers rapidly flipped through the company’s pending documents, seemingly uninterested in anything outside of work.
Her intentions were seen through, her thoughts guessed, and Fu Jinyan was anxious to salvage the situation with a few words. But the exquisitely beautiful woman, with skin like snow, was now completely immersed in her work, blocking out all surrounding noise.
Through Ruan Ning’s refined makeup, Fu Jinyan could see the deep-seated exhaustion in her eyes. Concern got the better of him.
In a fit of urgency, he spoke without thinking, accusing the woman organizing the files: “Do you know that by constantly using such aggressive treatment methods on Zhi Qiu, she might die at your hands before the illness even kills her!”
“Click.” The sound of a file snapping shut.
Upon hearing this, the woman in the black qipao closed the file and abruptly stood up. The wind outside the window was strong, blowing her hair, which was pinned up with a hairpin, into slight disarray. Initially, only a few strands flew around disobediently, but then she simply pulled out the hairpin, letting her ink-black hair fall.
The silver-white strands hidden deep within the bun were faintly visible, and Fu Jinyan awkwardly averted his gaze.
The woman’s eyes were bloodshot, and her unbound hair looked somewhat messy. Fu Jinyan’s words made it impossible for her to suppress the self-reproach in her heart, which was intensifying into madness. Ruan Ning rushed forward, grabbing Fu Jinyan’s collar, and her voice was filled with pain: “Do you think I want this?”
“If we don’t use the light brain for mental treatment, Zhi Qiu can only lie in bed forever, a living dead person, a cripple!”
A cripple?
What did that mean for a person who once stood on a stage, radiating brilliance?
Tears streamed continuously from the woman’s bloodshot eyes. As the tears evaporated into the air, one could almost smell the sour, fishy scent of seawater in the breath. Fu Jinyan stood rooted to the spot, utterly helpless.
In the silence, both their gazes simultaneously turned toward the hospital bed. The person lying there, connected to a ventilator, was so quiet it was as if she didn’t exist, covered by a layer of pale grey. No one would know how colorful and dazzling she once was.
Ruan Ning tilted her head back, wiping away the overflowing tears with her fingers. She stumbled to the side of the bed, tightly gripping the short-haired woman’s still-warm hand, and murmured: “Qiu, please wake up.”
“I can’t hold on anymore.”
The woman’s exhausted voice broke, growing fainter and fainter until it completely dissipated into the wind.
North-Anderson was a private school, thus its teaching method differed significantly from other Federal public schools.
Public schools used class bells to remind teachers to manage teaching time, but North-Anderson only had a bell for the start of class, not the end. Teachers could freely extend their lessons to complete the curriculum.
Ren Yi was one of the rare teachers at North-Anderson who was extremely time-conscious. After explaining the last formula, he looked at the clock; the hands pointed exactly to twelve o’clock.
Seeing that everyone looked listless, he pushed up his gold-rimmed glasses, smiled confidently from the podium, and spoke with powerful clarity.
“Class dismissed!”
Upon hearing the words “class dismissed,” the dozing students immediately cheered. They grabbed their bags and rushed out of the classroom, each one quicker than the last, as if something magnificent had happened.
The news of Fu Jinyan’s apology and withdrawal spread throughout North-Anderson, quickly becoming the material for the elite students’ after-class conversations.
Chen Nuo had been dazed and sleepy in class. As soon as the bell rang, he instantly woke up and huddled with a few close friends, discussing Fu Jinyan’s morning apology with ill-concealed glee: “I thought Fu Jinyan had some real ability, but he couldn’t handle the pressure and withdrew, didn’t he? And he thought he could take revenge on us. Besides, we weren’t the only ones talking about him. Now, the whole of North-Anderson knows about his dirty secrets.”
Since Meng Yuan distanced herself from the friend group, the marginalized Omegas from these elite families could only stick together for warmth. Hearing Chen Nuo’s words, the others repeatedly agreed, terrified that expressing any dissenting opinion would result in them being kicked out of their small, unified group.
Amidst the affirmations, the most meticulous Omega among them lightly tugged at the sleeve of the person walking ahead. Chen Nuo turned his head, looking confusedly at Yuan Xiangxiang.
The Omega had long hair, separated and braided into pigtails on both sides. She was wearing her school uniform, her eyes darting away in insecurity, and she looked slightly timid, hesitating: “That girl ahead seems to be Meng Yuan—”
Yuan Xiangxiang knew Chen Nuo always disliked Meng Yuan. After much hesitation, she cautiously probed: “Since Fu Jinyan has already withdrawn, the matter of Meng Yuan speaking ill of him behind his back won’t involve us anymore. Why don’t we apologize to Meng Yuan and make up? With her, we’ll have more confidence at North-Anderson.”
One more friend means one less enemy—this was a principle understood by marginalized individuals living in the elite world.
Chen Nuo was an illegitimate child; how could he not know this? However, seeking reconciliation just one morning later made him feel awkward.
Yuan Xiangxiang noticed Chen Nuo’s reservation and gave the others a look. The few understood instantly and consoled him in unison: “Yuan Yuan has always been soft-hearted. You two were the closest before. As long as you talk things through properly, she will definitely remember your past friendship, forgive you, and reconcile with us!”
Thinking of the times he had saved seats and brought food for Meng Yuan, Chen Nuo’s expression softened slightly. He gritted his teeth, quickened his pace, and grabbed the pink backpack of the Omega ahead.
Inadvertently, his white manicure brushed against the dried bloodstain. Chen Nuo yelped in disgust and complained impatiently: “Why are you still carrying this backpack? Just throw it away; I’ll buy you a new one. That blood must be from Fu Jinyan this morning. A person with such rotten character has equally dirty blood!”
Meng Yuan turned around. Her eyes were unreadable as she saw Chen Nuo and the people behind him.
She had thought these people would seek reconciliation someday, but she hadn’t expected it to happen so soon.
In the cold wind, the Omega in the white skirt looked back and smiled. Her sweet smile was heartwarming, but a spring breeze can also hide a blade that draws no blood.
“The world everyone sees is a mirror. If you think it’s good, it’s because you are satisfied yourself,” Meng Yuan said with a slight smile, her words clearly pointed: “If you think it’s dirty…”
The Chen family was considered prominent locally, but it was easily overshadowed in the elite-filled North-Anderson.
Born into a relatively conservative family, Chen Nuo’s upbringing focused mainly on material wealth, with little spiritual guidance. After all, in a conservative family, Omegas didn’t need to strive in the outside world; their value lay in their ability to raise children and enter into suitable marriages.
Chen Nuo was utterly confused. Although he didn’t understand the words, his subconscious told him it wasn’t a compliment. He pressed insistently: “Meng Yuan, what do you mean? I sincerely apologize to you, and you’re being so unappreciative!”
Meng Yuan’s smile was somewhat strained. She knew these people initially only wanted protection, but along the way, she had genuinely considered them friends.
Some people use volatile tempers to disguise themselves, while others use an impeccable smile for self-protection. Meng Yuan finally stopped the fake smile. She looked calmly at the most familiar strangers behind her and spoke slowly: “Some apologies are worth forgiving because the person truly recognizes their mistake, not because they immediately make excuses for themselves after apologizing.”
“Take care of yourselves.”
