The Scumbag Alpha's Plan to Save the Female Lead - Chapter 22
Chapter 22
The night was gentle. The private hospital was located in the bustling area of the city center. Looking down from the twentieth floor, one could see the constant flow of traffic and people, a lively and bustling scene.
The unexpected phone call brought immense joy to the tired girl in the wheelchair. A bright smile instantly lit up her face, more dazzling than the sun.
“I’m busy right now. If you have any questions, talk to Shang Wu; he will explain,” Zhi Qiu quickly dismissed him with a few perfunctory sentences and hung up on Bai Zimo.
Whether it was because she was afraid of keeping the other person waiting or because Zhi Qiu herself was eager, as soon as the first call was disconnected, she anxiously dialed the familiar number back.
The ticking sound while waiting for the call to connect was as usual, but to the waiting Zhi Qiu, every second felt like a year.
She remembered clearly that in her previous life, Ruan Ye had never actively contacted her. The only time was just before the wedding, but unfortunately, she had to follow the plot and hang up that call.
The call connected.
Zhi Qiu wanted to say something first, but she opened her mouth, and not a single word came out. All the ancient classics, contemporary literature, and foreign masterpieces she had read vanished completely.
They say reading subtly influences one’s expression, yet after so many years of studying, she had not seen any effect from her reading.
The girl in the wheelchair angrily hit the hospital room table. Her cheeks were flushed, and she was slightly annoyed.
On the other end of the line.
The girl had just finished showering, her raven-black hair only seven-tenths dry. She had removed her foundation, making her complexion, which was rosy in the daytime, much paler. A closer look revealed a pallid face and slightly drooping, fatigued eyes. It was late at night, and she had only just finished her nightly routine, seemingly having just gotten a moment of rest after a busy day.
The sound of the fist hitting the table was actually very faint, but the girl’s sensitive nerves still picked it up. She hesitated for a moment before carefully speaking: “Zhi Qiu, are you unhappy?”
There was no one else in the room. Zhi Qiu put her phone on speaker on the table. Hearing the hesitant and concerned voice from the call, she quickly grabbed the phone and explained incoherently: “No, no, I’m just…”
“Just… miss you very much.”
Zhi Qiu’s cheeks burned fiercely, and her body was hot, just like the wheelchair shaking from excitement. Whether it was the effect of the Truth System or not, she spoke this answer in a whisper.
“Just what?”
A muffled voice came through the phone. Ruan Ye had just finished wrapping her hair and put on a hair drying cap. She used her free hand to press the volume button, turning the sound to maximum, and asked with confusion.
Zhi Qiu’s eyes dimmed, and she whispered, “Nothing.”
After saying this, she felt the answer was too monotonous, so she quickly added: “Just tired. I just returned from the Fu family banquet. I watched several hours of song and dance performance; it was a bit boring.”
The Alpha’s voice sounded somewhat tired, but her extremely eager attempt to explain was quite endearing. Ruan Ye curved her lips into a smile, comforting her: “Then you should rest early. Nothing’s wrong with me. I just suddenly remembered I hadn’t called you yet, so I dialed casually.”
“Well, should I hang up now?”
Zhi Qiu actually wanted to chat for a bit longer. After all, Ruan Ye was the only person in this world who made her feel expressive and eager to communicate. But the other party had already said goodbye.
The girl sitting upright in the wheelchair looked a little dejected. Her long eyelashes seemed to droop from disappointment, like ripened wheat bowing its head, obscuring her beautiful, bright eyes.
Zhi Qiu acknowledged her with a “Yes,” but felt it wasn’t enough, adding: “I hope you’ll be happy tomorrow.”
I hope you’ll be happy tomorrow.
It sounded like an ordinary farewell greeting between friends, but it made the girl sitting in front of the vanity mirror in the small room lower her head and smile.
After hanging up the phone, Ruan Ye looked up and saw herself in the mirror. Only then did she realize she was inexplicably smiling again.
She shook her head helplessly. Ever since a person in a wheelchair, who always spoke strange words and crashed into her life without warning, she seemed to be smiling foolishly more and more often.
The Mid-Autumn Festival on Old Earth had passed, but the moon outside the window was as full as it had been on that day.
The bright moonlight poured through the window, illuminating the girl’s delicate and beautiful face inside the room. The girl took out a fox mask and placed it on her face. The mask was a bit large, seemingly not custom-made, covering up to her philtrum, only exposing her pointed chin. She stood up facing the moonlight and walked to the window.
The moon reflected the sun’s light but was not as harsh as the sun. A person making a wish under the moonlight is a devout believer in the moon. Ruan Ye clasped her hands together.
Under the illumination of the bright moonlight, the pair of light grey eyes beneath the fox mask looked even clearer.
The person under the moonlight silently chanted in her heart: “May people live long and happily, may people live long and happily…”
From darkness to dawn, only a few short hours passed.
Six or seven hours later, the classical Roman-style buildings of North-Anderson School welcomed a new morning.
Yesterday’s Fu family recognition banquet was a grand affair, its luxury level ranking high among past elite family banquets.
However, the bigger the event, the faster the rumors spread. Just a few hours after the banquet, the elite students at North-Anderson all knew about the absurd events that transpired at the feast.
A few young masters from prominent families had just gotten out of their cars and were gathered in small groups discussing it.
When it came to gossip, people of any gender were curious.
“When did Fu Jinyan get involved with Bai Zimo? Didn’t he have a scandal with Ruan Ye before? Plus, I ran into his fiancée at the banquet yesterday. Seriously, this guy is juggling three relationships! Truly a role model for our generation.” The Alphas walked along, arms slung over each other’s shoulders, talking loudly as if afraid others wouldn’t know they had heard the gossip too.
In contrast, the Omegas were much more reserved. Several close friends held hands and gathered together, discussing in low voices. Unsure which interesting topic was brought up, a petite and delicate little Omega named Meng Yuan couldn’t help but look up and lightly laugh out loud.
It would have been fine if she hadn’t looked up, but when she did, Meng Yuan almost burst into tears. It was a case of extreme joy turning into sorrow.
The tall man who had stopped beside her had an ashen face. He was wearing his school uniform somewhat properly, but almost everyone could tell that the flesh underneath had been whipped bloody and the wounds hadn’t healed.
The fresh bloodstains on Fu Jinyan’s arm accidentally rubbed onto the Omega’s pink backpack.
He stopped, carefully trying to wipe the bloodstain off the backpack, but the motion only smeared the blood over a larger area on the pink bag.
Fu Jinyan frowned slightly, looking down at the small, helpless Omega. Several parts of the tall Alpha’s face were wrapped in bandages, and even a slight smile would pull on the facial muscles and tear open his wounds.
He remained expressionless and could only use the most gentle tone possible: “I’m very sorry. I didn’t do it on purpose. If the bloodstain won’t wash out, you can find me at Qian Yan’s office. I will compensate you.”
