The Scumbag Alpha's Plan to Save the Female Lead - Chapter 18
Chapter 18
Hearing Zhi Qiu’s name, Fu Jinyan felt a jolt, involuntarily straightening his ears and listening to every word carefully.
Upon hearing this, Zhi Ze’en playfully patted the young Alpha’s shoulder twice. The man was formally dressed, but there was a youthful vigor between his brows, and his smile was heartwarming.
“My daughter has provided you all with a good laugh.” Zhi Ze’en wore a smile, but the amusement did not reach his eyes.
Which aristocratic family was unaware that Zhi Ze’en’s only daughter was ignorant, spent her days carousing with Omegas, completely wasting her top Alpha genes, and now was being ridiculed by the younger generation in person.
Fu Jinxing’s words were brushed off by the elders of both families with a smile, a minor interlude picked up lightly and then set down gently.
During the exchange of toasts, Zhi Ze’en clinked glasses with Director Fu, a touch of regret in his eyes as he sighed, “If only she could truly be this promising.”
His younger son’s words made Director Fu beam. Although his Fu family was not yet as stable as the Zhi family’s century-old foundation, they had the advantage of having successors.
Thinking this, Director Fu hugged his son’s shoulder even tighter and happily led him to the outer chamber to meet the guests.
The main hall of the Fu family’s outer chamber was primarily composed of gold and white. Everything, from the light fixtures above to the bricks and tiles on the floor, was specially designed and made from the best imported materials. In just fifty short years, it was so imposing that it made the century-old aristocratic families seem stingy in their food, clothing, housing, and transportation.
Although it was a recognition banquet, it was essentially a social gathering. Social gatherings were mostly noisy, with predictable topics, revolving around only three categories: money, power, and romance. Where elders were present, topics of matchmaking were inevitable. Golden bachelors were rare on the market, and their appearance naturally drew teasing from the elders.
An older-looking man brought his daughter over to offer a toast. The woman wore a white gauze dress, her complexion like a clean lotus flower emerging from the water. The red jade on her hairpin further highlighted her fair skin, making her appear ethereal and untouched by the mundane world.
The man gently pushed his daughter forward from behind. Cheng Cheng smiled sweetly, took a glass of red wine from a waiter, and walked toward the main characters of today’s banquet.
“Uncle Fu, Brother Jinyan, long time no see.” The girl’s clear voice was melodious and pleasant, her attitude polite, and her demeanor gentle, immediately giving people a good impression.
Fu Jinyan was deeply engrossed in analyzing the recent conversation and, momentarily distracted, didn’t hear the girl’s greeting. In contrast, the ignored Fu Jinxing quickly reacted.
No matter how much he pretended not to care, Fu Jinxing still held resentment in his heart over his twenty years of life outside the Fu family. His playful words were tinged with bitterness: “Sister Cheng Cheng, you probably didn’t see me. Why only greet your Brother Jinyan?”
Cheng Cheng held her wine, primarily facing Fu Jinyan’s direction. Without a response from the man, she could only stand there awkwardly.
Her father had clarified the purpose of the visit before they arrived, making her overly nervous. When she stepped forward to offer the toast, her mind was entirely focused on Brother Jinyan’s tall figure, causing her to overlook the other main character of the day.
This awkwardness lasted for a few minutes.
Finally, Director Fu smoothed things over. He lightly patted his son’s shoulder and praised the elaborately dressed woman: “Cheng Cheng is not only beautiful but also exceptionally talented. She just graduated from North-Anderson a little over a year ago and already won the top prize in a domestic design competition. I wonder which Alpha will be lucky enough to marry such a capable wife. I wish I, Fu Fu, had such good fortune.”
Hearing this, the older-looking man quickly rushed forward, smiling ingratiatingly: “Look at you saying that, it’s just a little bit of cleverness. Although Cheng Cheng has reached the Federally mandated marriageable age, she’s always been unwilling to match. The child already has someone in her heart, and as parents, we can’t do anything about it.”
Saying this, he pushed his daughter forward again, closer to the clearly distracted man, urging: “Quickly say hello to your Brother Jinyan.”
With a living person holding a wine glass in front of him, even if Fu Jinyan was preoccupied with Zhi Qiu, he had to spare a thought, lightly responding: “Sister Cheng Cheng, long time no see.”
Fu Jinyan’s observation skills were always remarkable, and he quickly understood his father’s meaning from his gaze.
To make up for his earlier lapse, he diligently offered to exchange the wine glass for the woman, who had dressed carefully for the banquet, and said caringly: “The wine at the banquet is too strong for you. Getting drunk can easily cause headaches. It’s better to switch to something lighter.”
Cheng Cheng was about to take the glass, but before her hand could touch the cool glass of the stemmed cup, it was snatched away by another hand.
She looked up and saw the person in grey, the Alpha she had just ignored.
Fu Jinxing hadn’t initially intended to compete for anything. The two had met once when they were younger, but it was far from deep-seated affection. However…
The item in Zhi Qiu’s hand had given him immense leverage. He wanted to take away the things Fu Jinyan possessed one by one, making him taste the exclusion and pain he had once suffered.
The Alpha’s features seemed to be inherited from his mother—seductive phoenix eyes and an air of confidence. He calmly placed the wine in the glass back, instructing the waiter: “Get Miss Cheng Cheng a glass of juice.”
At the stem of the cup, Fu Jinxing hooked his finger around her slender one. Ignoring the confusion in the woman’s eyes, he leaned into her ear and said meaningfully, “Good wine needs no bush, Miss Cheng Cheng. You’ll just have to wait a little longer.”
He swapped a glass of wine for a glass of juice.
With the two brothers causing a stir, Director Fu was worried about conflict but couldn’t say anything. He quickly clapped his hands, summoned the butler, and loudly asked, “Is the great hall ready?”
The butler was a middle-aged man, composed and elegant, clearly having served for many years.
He wore a European-style uniform, bowed respectfully, and replied: “Master, everything is prepared. Please proceed to the performance hall to enjoy the show.”
The guests received the announcement and followed the guides sent by the Fu family to the most magnificent room in the outer chamber.
Alphas and Omegas were initially guided separately when entering. Now, mixed together in the outer chamber, the scene was inevitably chaotic.
In the confusion, seizing the opportunity, Yuan Menglu, who had been a transparent presence among the Omegas, quietly slipped into the Alpha’s group, precisely locating the beautiful figure seated in the crowd.
A person in a wheelchair was naturally conspicuous in the crowd. Some Alphas deliberately gave way, and some enthusiastic ones even offered to push her, but all were refused.
Zhi Qiu, wheeling herself, felt a boost from behind. Thinking it was another well-meaning but overzealous person, she was about to politely decline the kindness when, instead of seeing a person, she felt a light tap on her head.
“Zhi Qiu, I had such a hard time finding you!”
