The Scandalous Actress Needs to Strive GL - Chapter 3
The first day of shooting for Grand Secretary of the Song Dynasty did not include Qiu Wan’s scenes, but she still stayed on set the entire day. Firstly, she wanted to quickly get used to the environment, and secondly, she wanted to observe the acting of others.
After a day of watching, the tension in her heart finally eased. It seemed that the acting skills of the people in this world weren’t that great? Neither the male nor female lead’s performance was convincing, at least she couldn’t immerse herself in the story.
Glancing at the script in her hand, she began to look forward to her own role: the dignified and virtuous eldest princess. This personality and these actions were practically a replica of the Prime Minister’s residence’s eldest daughter.
Qiu Wan wouldn’t dare boast about other things, but playing this kind of character was absolutely within her grasp. After all, she herself was an elegant and proper eldest daughter of the Prime Minister’s residence, although it was all a performance put on for others under her mother’s supervision. But having acted for over twenty years and earned a good reputation in the capital, wasn’t that a testament to her skill?
On the second day, Qiu Wan’s scenes were scheduled for the evening. To fit the character of the eldest princess, she wore a deep purple palace robe and her makeup was very light, making her appear poised and grand.
The actress playing the female lead was named Meng Ranli, a former red hot girl group leader who, for unknown reasons, suddenly started acting in a web drama. Qiu Wan took a deep breath, and the expression on her face instantly softened.
This scene was about the eldest princess’s first encounter with the female lead. Seeing her being cornered, the princess offers help and invites her to the manor to serve as a strategist.
In the camera, the eldest princess slowly walks over, personally helps the injured female lead up, and then turns to the troublemaker, saying, “Who says women cannot be well read? I admire talented people the most. Are you willing to return to the Princess’s Manor with me?”
The female lead was stunned, and then flung her arm away.
“Cut! Meng Jie, are you not feeling well? We’ll stop shooting for the day. Everyone go back and rest.”
At the director’s command, everyone started removing their makeup and preparing to disperse, leaving the newly arrived Qiu Wan full of questions. Here, the female lead was supposed to get up smoothly and reply, “Thank you for the Princess’s kind offer, I am willing.”
She didn’t know what was wrong with the actress playing the female lead. It was a shame she had prepared all day only to not get a single shot in. Tomorrow they would have to start from the beginning again.
What was wrong with Meng Ranli? She was simply too shocked, so she instinctively resisted. She was originally the leader of a firstr ate girl group. In the past two years, her old injuries flared up, preventing her from singing and dancing on stage, so she complied with the company’s wishes and prepared to transition into acting. After all, they couldn’t waste tens of millions of fans; as long as people bought into it, she still held value for the company.
The male lead in this drama was the same as her. The two hit it off, and under the company’s operation, the casting principle for young roles (excluding those for older characters) was: generally average acting, preferably slightly bad acting, but definitely with buzz.
Qiu Wan met all the conditions: poor acting, no backing, black-red all the way, and undiminished popularity.
Such a person was perfect to be a stepping stone. Even if the male and female leads’ acting skills weren’t up to par, with such a supporting role to contrast them, coupled with some hype about the two just transitioning and a little bit of playing the pity card, the ratings naturally wouldn’t be low.
Meng Ranli had seen Qiu Wan’s previous acting and heard of her reputation. She had originally thought her own acting could easily outperform the other, but she didn’t expect that a single glance would make her extremely uneasy, leading to her loss of composure.
She hadn’t been immersed in the role the entire day yesterday, yet seeing Qiu Wan walking over, she felt as if she was seeing the dignity of a national princess, and the feeling of being instantly brought into the scene didn’t bring joy, but rather trouble.
Meng Ranli glanced at the person walking into the makeup room not far away. She gave a perfunctory reply to the director, and while there were few people around, she walked in, saw that Qiu Wan was the only one inside, and locked the door behind her.
“Miss Qiu’s acting seems to have improved quite a bit. I wonder which famous teacher you consulted. Would you mind introducing them?” Meng Ranli walked closer, staring at the person removing her makeup. She truly had a face that could ruin a country. She looked at herself in the mirror, and a wave of disgust arose in her heart.
She thought that if the previous scene was just a fluke, Qiu Wan could stay. But if this woman’s acting was consistently good, the role of the eldest princess might have to be recast. After all, you can’t let the green leaves overshadow the red flower.
“Sister Meng is too kind. I just read the script a bit more, there’s no real improvement,” Qiu Wan smiled brightly, her eyes sparkling with charm. She spoke humbly, but her heart was beating fast. This woman seemed hostile towards her. She hoped she wouldn’t cause trouble soon.
Meng Ranli looked at the beautiful face, her eyes darkening. She reached out and pinched Qiu Wan’s chin, pressing hard with her fingers. The two red marks stretched across the fair skin: “This is truly a restless face. You should read the script less in the future. What are you smiling at?”
The woman in front of her not only didn’t show the look of pain she had expected, but her smile grew even more flirtatious, making her increasingly annoyed.
Qiu Wan took the initiative, leaning forward, then grabbing Meng Ranli’s hand, and looking at her with loving eyes, said, “Because I’m very happy to be so close to Sister Meng. How could I bear to be calm?”
“Disgusting!” Meng Ranli’s eyes flashed. As if touching something dirty, she flung her hand away, then turned and left with a look of utter repulsion, as if afraid someone would chase after her.
“Not bad, I’ll use this method in the future,” Qiu Wan chuckled, raising an eyebrow at herself in the mirror. She had originally intended to dodge, but the memories in her mind made her want to try another approach. It seemed very effective so far. It could both repel the enemy and incidentally disgust them. A win-win.
So, on the third day of shooting, everyone in the crew looked at Qiu Wan and Meng Ranli with complicated expressions. This female player was back to flirting again. It seemed today’s road-trip footage could be arranged.

Mu Qingchen scrolled through the trending topics, then clicked in to see the suggestive photos, unconsciously biting her lip.
“No need to arrange a set visit. The meeting will proceed as scheduled,” a voice with an indiscernible emotion came through the phone.
“Yes, President, I will arrange it immediately,” Yu Baishu hung up the internal line and methodically adjusted the time. She didn’t know why, but she felt the President’s tone was a little angry.
As soon as she finished organizing the schedule, the internal line rang again, and the President’s cold voice came through: “Arrange the set visit as usual. Postpone the meeting.”
“Yes, President, I will arrange it immediately.” Not asking questions and just diligently doing the work is a basic quality of an assistant. Yu Baishu glanced at the schedule on the computer, thankfully it hadn’t been sent out yet.
On the set, Qiu Wan had just finished a scene with Meng Ranli. Seeing the other woman approaching with ill intent, she preemptively stood up to meet her: “I was wondering why the clouds today looked better than usual. Turns out Sister Meng is closer to me again.”
“Greasy. Disgusting.” Meng Ranli stopped, looked into Qiu Wan’s clear, autumn water eyes, her breathing hitched, and she changed direction. She decided not to personally make things difficult for this woman anymore. She would just go through the company and have the director kick her out. Although paying the breach of contract fee would be a bit troublesome, at least she could get this woman out of her sight sooner. If this continued, she was afraid she might lose her mind one day, after all this woman’s face was too deceptive, and her constant look of deep affection made her uncomfortable.
