The Romance Extras Turned Out to Be a Yuri Story - Chapter 4
Lin Luoluo leaned against Zhang Qiu’s shoulder, a little worried that her weight might crush her.
Her voice was muffled:
“Am I heavy?”
“Not heavy.” Zhang Qiu adjusted her slightly, feeling that Lin Luoluo wasn’t even as heavy as her own dog.
The Labrador she picked up when it was little—she had carried it all the way until it grew so big she could hardly lift it anymore.
“Oh.” Lin Luoluo lay dazed on her back for a while before asking:
“Why are you so nice to me?”
Zhang Qiu clearly knew that she ‘liked’ Gu Beichen. As a love rival, it was enough not to hate her—yet she was even helping her.
Zhang Qiu tilted her head. The tied-up hair behind her brushed across Lin Luoluo’s cheek, tickling her. Lin Luoluo heard her say:
“Does this count as nice?”
She was genuinely puzzled.
“You got hurt, so I helped you, that’s all.”
Just like she would help anyone else—such a thing wasn’t a big deal to Zhang Qiu.
Zhang Qiu was really too outstanding. Compared to her, Lin Luoluo felt her own light dimmed a lot.
She asked the system:
【Is this the heroine?】
Smart and opinionated, kind yet with her own principles.
The male lead truly wasn’t worthy of her.
For the first time since crossing into this world, Lin Luoluo thought so.
The system answered with a proud tone:
【Of course, this is the heroine voted by thousands of readers as the one with the brightest qualities! Of course she deserves the best!】
Lin Luoluo nodded, when suddenly Zhang Qiu stopped walking.
It was Lin Xiangdong, running toward them.
He was another member of the F4—an energetic, sporty type—and also Lin Luoluo’s older brother.
Seeing her, he complained:
“How did you manage to get into trouble the moment you came to school? If Mu Yunchun hadn’t told me, I wouldn’t even know you got hurt. Where are you injured?”
“Leave her to me, thank you, Zhang Qiu.”
The two knew each other well—after all, Zhang Qiu was Gu Beichen’s girlfriend. Even though the F4 hadn’t gathered in a long time, the members were still familiar with one another.
Lin Luoluo noticed Mu Yunchun standing behind Lin Xiangdong. The gloom in his eyes made her uneasy. She hurriedly slid down from Zhang Qiu’s back and into her brother’s arms.
With Lin Xiangdong’s tall, sturdy build, carrying Lin Luoluo was effortless. He said to Zhang Qiu:
“I’ll take her home first, the rest I’ll leave to you.”
Lin Xiangdong was the student council’s head of sports. With the seniors all graduating this year, his department was busy with restructuring.
Zhang Qiu nodded. When they left, Mu Yunchun finally stepped forward and said:
“You’re just too nice, letting everyone order you around.”
When Zhang Qiu ignored him, he added with grievance:
“But only toward me, you’re heartless.”
“You can carry your love rival without blinking, but being nicer to me—what’s the harm in that?”
Zhang Qiu flexed her wrist, feeling some soreness—it must have been sprained when she fell earlier. With her delicate, icy face, she replied coolly:
“Because you’d only take advantage of it.”
Mu Yunchun chuckled. He reached out as if to massage her wrist.
“Even when you’re hurt yourself, you only think about others.” He pretended to complain, but actually just wanted to hold her hand.
Zhang Qiu dodged.
“I still have things to do, I’m leaving.”
As soon as she turned, Mu Yunchun rushed to chase after her.
On the way, Lin Xiangdong nagged:
“You were doing perfectly fine abroad, why did you come back? And even transfer to my school? I’m about to graduate—soon I won’t be able to take care of you.”
Lin Luoluo grumbled:
“Who needs you to take care of me.”
“Then get off my back.” Lin Xiangdong threatened.
Lin Luoluo clung tighter around his neck, afraid he’d really throw her off.
He swayed her body as if to drop her, but in reality carried her steadily.
They didn’t return home but went to their rented apartment. Once inside, Lin Xiangdong set her down and collapsed on the couch, panting, while mocking her.
“You pig! You eat so much—nearly killed me carrying you!”
Lin Luoluo glared back and retorted:
“Zhang Qiu didn’t say I was heavy! How come you can’t even compare to a girl?”
Lin Xiangdong bared his teeth at her, only to get smacked down by a throw pillow.
After resting a bit, he went to the fridge for food. Lin Luoluo hugged a pillow and, biting her lip, asked quietly:
“Are you close with Zhang Qiu?”
Although dense about girls’ feelings, Lin Xiangdong could tell she liked Gu Beichen. He turned his back to her, grinning awkwardly, carefully choosing his words to avoid hurting her.
He said cautiously:
“Yeah, we’re familiar. She’s Beichen’s girlfriend. He often brought her around. Later, when she was elected vice president of the student council, she handled a lot of things—we’d often run into her there.”
“So what kind of person is she?” Lin Luoluo asked again.
That stumped him.
Though he knew the brothers had once clashed over Zhang Qiu, Lin Xiangdong had never really fallen for her. Well, maybe a tiny bit, but he had stepped back deliberately, not wanting a woman to damage brotherhood.
From the fridge he took out a bottle of sparkling water and tossed one to Lin Luoluo, grabbing another for himself.
“Why are you asking all of a sudden? Didn’t you always dislike her?”
Lin Luoluo glared at him, gulped some sparkling water, and said:
“She helped me today. Can’t I at least thank her?”
“You don’t need to.” Lin Xiangdong shrugged.
“She’s helped so many stray cats and dogs. The student council has a whole room just for gifts people gave her. Besides, if you do give something, she won’t accept it. She never takes gifts.”
He recalled when the men’s tennis coach retired and Zhang Qiu, as assistant coach, had done so much for them. The whole team had wanted to thank her, but she accepted nothing—only shared a meal before parting ways.
Seeing Lin Luoluo staring blankly, he raised his hand:
“If you really want to thank her, invite her to eat. She won’t take gifts, but she’ll still eat a meal.”
Lin Luoluo scratched her cheek. But today, she had deliberately confessed to the wrong person, pretended to give her love letter meant for Gu Beichen to Zhang Qiu, and even mocked her during the student council election. Would Zhang Qiu really accept her dinner invitation?
She fell into deep thought. After checking her leg, Lin Xiangdong confirmed it was just a scrape. He had to return to school, so he told her:
“I’ve called Aunt Zhang to come take care of you. No classes today—don’t go wandering off.”
“Got it, brother.” Lin Luoluo dragged out her tone. After he left, she hurried to consult the system.
“I’m injured. Can I skip this afternoon’s student council election? Besides, I just transferred here. They won’t vote for me anyway. Why bother with a sure loss?”
The system scolded:
“Did you forget why you came to this world? You’re the vicious supporting female! You must provoke the male lead’s guilt toward the heroine, so they reconcile! If you don’t go, how can this scene continue? At today’s assembly, the male lead already began to feel guilty about the heroine. He just hasn’t admitted it yet! In the afternoon, push harder, and he’ll confess. Then the rift will vanish!”
Lin Luoluo was unwilling.
Zhang Qiu was so good—why pair her with such a male lead? And why was the story always about tormenting the heroine, never the hero?
But she dared not say that aloud to the system. Lazily, she said “fine.”
After lunch, her leg still hurt and she didn’t want to get up. But the system nagged nonstop until she finally rose.
Aunt Zhang hurried over to help her.
“Miss, your injury is so bad—do you still have to go to school?”
Lin Luoluo looked at her wounded leg, forced herself to nod.
Aunt Zhang called the family driver to take her. In the car, her curls drooped lifelessly.
The system tried to comfort her:
“I’ve prepared the speech for you. Just read it.”
Lin Luoluo nodded, still unhappy.
She couldn’t muster any enthusiasm for deliberately targeting Zhang Qiu.
What fault did Zhang Qiu have, to deserve being picked on? She was simply the heroine of the story.
Must the male and female leads be together?
The thought jolted Lin Luoluo, and she dared not pursue it further.
If the heroine didn’t end up with the male lead, then who…?
Her head leaned against the car window. Curled up in gloom, her fluffy curls covering her body, she looked quietly sorrowful.
She really disliked singling someone out for bullying. She wasn’t a tyrant. But the system insisted this was what readers wanted.
Why would readers want to see a vicious supporting role torment the heroine?
Wouldn’t it be better if the heroine just shone alone?
Lost in thought, the car pulled into the school. Lin Xiangdong came to meet her, with a pale, beautiful boy by his side. Lin Luoluo recognized him instantly: Dongfang Qing.
The last of the F4, he was ranked on the campus heartthrob list purely for his stunning looks and melancholic aura. But because of his frail health and frequent absences, few had seen him, so he placed last in the F4.
Dongfang Qing nodded politely at her.
“Brother Qing, you came to school?” Lin Luoluo exclaimed. Wasn’t he supposed to be undergoing treatment at the hospital now?
He smiled faintly:
“The drama club was short on people. Zhang Qiu invited me to come by.”
“You know her too?” Lin Luoluo’s eyes widened, then realized—of course, as the heroine, Zhang Qiu would have connections with everyone. The book had written that she had unlocked Dongfang Qing’s heart knot, becoming his one true confidant.
Lin Luoluo bit her lip, faint unease creeping in. Why was Zhang Qiu so well-liked, with ties to everyone?
Dongfang Qing’s sickly face brightened when he mentioned her:
“Xiaoyuan likes her very much.”
Dongfang Yuan, his younger brother.
Also his “mobile blood bank”—the Dongfang family had birthed him solely for Qing’s treatment.
For a long time, Dongfang Qing had refused to accept it. In his second year, when his condition worsened, it was Zhang Qiu who helped him through his heart knot.
Lin Luoluo’s face dimmed.
Suddenly, the system shrieked:
【A reader just posted a long review!】
