The Romance Extras Turned Out to Be a Yuri Story - Chapter 2
The great hall fell silent for a moment. The person Lin Luoluo had crashed into let out a muffled groan.
Lin Luoluo was so embarrassed she wanted to bang her head into the ground. The more flustered she became, the clumsier she was—her hands flailed in the air with nowhere to go, her body leaning backward, the recoil only making her sway harder—until suddenly her hand was caught, and a cool, pleasant voice came from above her:
“Don’t move.”
Why did that voice sound so familiar?
Her captured hand was guided to rest on her abdomen. Lin Luoluo’s eyes widened, and before her appeared Zhang Qiu’s fair face.
Her brows were knit together, as if she were in pain. One hand was braced behind her, the other gripping Lin Luoluo’s wrist, her chin tilted upward, long black hair falling against her collarbone—her whole posture brimming with strength.
Lin Luoluo was still dazed when she was suddenly pulled up and set upright.
She looked up at the person a head taller than herself—and realized that even from this deadly angle, Zhang Qiu was stunning.
Those cold, stubborn eyes and brows, the high nose bridge, the rosy lips, even her slender fingers—all of it was so beautiful, like a character drawn straight from a comic book.
Zhang Qiu flicked her wrist, frowning. “Be more careful next time.”
“Vice President, are you okay?!”
In an instant, people swarmed around Zhang Qiu, pushing Lin Luoluo out of her side.
Lin Luoluo blinked at the circle of pretty older girls.
So… Zhang Qiu was actually this popular with the girls? She had thought Zhang Qiu would be hated by the whole school instead.
【Of course not!】 the system spoke up. 【Zhang Qiu was voted by readers as one of the most popular female characters.】
Lin Luoluo was puzzled: 【But written like this, shouldn’t being with the school heartthrob make all the girls jealous of her?】
The system snorted: 【The heroine’s charm is huge. She once played a male role in the drama club, and because she looked so handsome in disguise, she dominated the school confession wall for months—her popularity even surpassed the male lead.】
【Wow!】
Looking at Zhang Qiu, who stood taller than the girls around her, Lin Luoluo could hardly imagine that kind of charisma. Just as she was marveling, Zhang Qiu pushed through the crowd of admirers and walked toward her.
“Are you alright? Did you hurt yourself anywhere?”
Her sharp brows furrowed slightly as she bent down, giving Lin Luoluo her full attention. Her beautiful face was so close, skin so smooth and flawless it was impossible to see a single pore. At such close range, struck by the sheer force of her looks, Lin Luoluo suddenly blushed.
She muttered inwardly: Lin Luoluo, remember—right now you’re supposed to be her rival!
She was about to steel her expression and play the role of the vicious supporting girl when—suddenly, she was scooped up in Zhang Qiu’s arms.
“Sorry. I noticed your knees are injured. I’ll take you to the infirmary.”
W-what?!
That was against the rules!
Lin Luoluo’s face flamed red as she sank into Zhang Qiu’s embrace, catching the pleasant scent on her.
Her woolly curls clung obediently to Zhang Qiu’s clothes.
Her long sheep-like ears drooped down, her blushing face looking far cuter than when she tried to act arrogant.
Zhang Qiu’s eyes flickered with a faint trace of amusement.
“Vice President, let me take her instead!” the secretary-general rushed forward, speaking anxiously. “If you take her to the infirmary and the president misunderstands…”
Recently the president and vice president had been in a cold war. Though earlier today the president had shown a slight thaw by lending her an outer coat when her clothes were dirtied, they still refused to speak to each other directly, communicating only through others.
Now this Lin Luoluo—who had just transferred and was already close with the president—if she caused another misunderstanding, what then?
It wasn’t as if such things hadn’t happened before.
Usually calm and rational, the president somehow completely lost his sense whenever it involved the vice president.
The secretary-general sighed. This romance of theirs was giving everyone around them headaches.
The moment Zhang Qiu heard the mention of Gu Beichen, her face instantly froze over.
She had always looked cold, but at least there’d been a trace of warmth. Now she was like an arctic wind blowing in from Siberia—Lin Luoluo almost felt frozen solid. Whatever hazy, fluttering thoughts had just stirred in her heart evaporated at once.
She patted Zhang Qiu’s shoulder. “Put me down, I can walk.”
The moment Gu Beichen was involved, Zhang Qiu’s helpfulness vanished. She set Lin Luoluo down.
Lin Luoluo took a step forward and gasped from the pain in her knees. Rolling up her pants leg, she saw both knees were swollen—no wonder it hurt so badly.
The pain made her suck in a sharp breath, her eyes misting red.
Zhang Qiu sighed. “Let me help after all.”
Lin Luoluo was crouched on the ground as Zhang Qiu extended a hand to her. From the angle of the doorway, it looked exactly as if she were pointing accusingly at Lin Luoluo.
Just then, Gu Beichen stepped into the great hall—and immediately panicked.
“What are you doing?!”
“Lin Luoluo, you’re hurt?!”
As he hurried closer, his tone turned shocked.
Dust from his arrival made Lin Luoluo’s eyes sting. Her nose prickled, and suddenly tears spilled down her cheeks.
At the sight of Gu Beichen, Zhang Qiu withdrew her hand, pressing her lips tight in that proud way that said she wanted nothing to do with him.
The two of them had argued just yesterday. Today things had begun to ease slightly—until Lin Luoluo’s sudden involvement reignited the tension.
“Zhang Qiu, can’t you do anything right?!” Gu Beichen instinctively shielded Lin Luoluo. Yesterday, Zhang Qiu had gone to his house and made his little sister cry.
He hadn’t wanted to believe Zhang Qiu was that kind of person—until his mother told him she had seen with her own eyes Zhang Qiu pushing little Gu Xiaoxiao. Not to mention, during a past charity event at the orphanage, Zhang Qiu herself had said she didn’t like children.
Gu Beichen had been waiting for Zhang Qiu to explain. But after leaving his house, she had only kept her face cold and stiff, as though his whole family owed her something. He had bottled up his emotions all this time—but now, seeing Lin Luoluo injured, he finally exploded.
Zhang Qiu looked at him, disappointment in her eyes.
“Gu Beichen…” She opened her mouth, but couldn’t force the words out.
She had thought that after so much time together, he would understand her true nature. Yet in the end, he still stood by his family’s side.
And what could she even say? That your family set me up?
He wouldn’t believe her.
Gu Beichen’s fists clenched tight, his own heart full of disappointment.
He wished Zhang Qiu would speak—whether to vent, to resent, or to express her hurt—but she remained the same, silent as though he were the one in the wrong.
His mother’s words flashed again in his mind:
A mismatch of families. You won’t end well together.
Lowering his head in frustration, he reached for Lin Luoluo.
She was his cousin—he had promised the Lin family to take good care of her. After all, she had just returned from abroad and was unfamiliar with everything here.
But to his shock, the girl who usually chased after him with complete trust suddenly darted straight into Zhang Qiu’s arms instead.
Lin Luoluo clutched Zhang Qiu’s shirtfront, barreling into her chest, cutting off her disappointment with her pitiful plea:
“Can you take me to the infirmary? My knees hurt so much…”
