The Romance Extras Turned Out to Be a Yuri Story - Chapter 1
“Senior, I like you! Please go out with me!”
Beneath the cherry blossom tree, a shy girl lowered her head. Pink petals fluttered down in the breeze, lifting the hem of her skirt, her woolly curls flying in the wind.
The boy made no move for a long time. The girl waited, then timidly raised her eyes to look at him. He slowly turned, took off his baseball cap, and black hair slid down, revealing a pale face.
Seeing clearly who stood before her, Lin Luoluo’s eyes widened. “Why is it you?!”
Zhang Qiu, who had dirtied her clothes during club activities and was wearing her boyfriend’s jacket, looked blankly at the girl in front of her. “You’ve got the wrong person.”
She brushed past Lin Luoluo to leave, only to be grabbed.
“Where’s he?! I asked my senior out—why are you here instead!”
Zhang Qiu frowned. Though Lin Luoluo’s grip was no stronger than a kitten’s scratch, Zhang Qiu disliked being touched. She shook her off and answered coldly: “Then you should ask the person who passed along your love letter—why it ended up in my hands.”
“Oh! You peeked at the letter I wrote for my senior!”
Lin Luoluo’s face flushed red in anger. She stomped her foot. “Senior doesn’t even like you! You’d better let him go!”
Zhang Qiu gave a short, scornful laugh and looked at the little bean sprout before her. “Come chase someone again after you’ve grown taller.”
So infuriating!
Watching the heroine’s thin back as she walked away, Lin Luoluo squatted gloomily under the cherry blossom tree, drawing circles on the ground, and complained to the system: “I’ve transmigrated into a book, but you couldn’t even give me a different body? At least make me ten centimeters taller! What kind of ‘vicious supporting character’ has a baby face?!”
The system consoled her: “You did well just now! The heroine now knows someone’s after the hero—she’ll definitely feel a sense of crisis. Keep it up, and they’ll reconcile in no time!”
“I’d say the male lead’s the real idiot. About to graduate, yet he never considers the heroine’s feelings—only thinks about himself. If he weren’t so careless every day, would she be so cold to him?” Lin Luoluo tugged her curls, scrunching up her delicate nose. “So… is that enough? What do I have to do next?”
The system flipped open the plot outline: “Next, you need to mock the heroine during the student council election—so that the male lead steps up to protect her.”
“What?! I have to run for student council?!” Lin Luoluo’s knees went weak. A die-hard homebody, she’d rather never face people at all. Just confessing to Zhang Qiu earlier had nearly used up her lifetime’s worth of courage.
Luckily it was a girl she had to confess to—if it were a guy, she might not even have managed to speak.
“Can’t I just skip it? We could use some other way to fix their relationship! Does it really have to be this?” She tried to wheedle, but the system’s voice was stern: “No.”
“I just checked the book’s comment section. Reader click-rates are climbing fast. They love the addition of a vicious supporting role. They’re looking forward to face-slapping scenes, plus moments where the leads show their love while the villainess is left brokenhearted. According to reader satisfaction surveys, sixty percent are happy with the current direction. If you stick to their tastes, you’ll complete your task.”
“Sigh.” Lin Luoluo yanked at some grass, drooping her head. “I really shouldn’t have agreed so casually that time.”
She was a third-year student living on campus. One weekend night she’d been staying up late binge-reading the novel’s updates. Just as she dozed off, she’d heard a voice:
【Do you want to transmigrate? To experience life inside a story? Have you ever been dissatisfied with a novel’s plot but unable to tell the author? Don’t worry! Now you can enter the book yourself—express your love to your favorite character, even change their ending! Just bind with me, and all this can come true!】
Half-asleep, Lin Luoluo thought it was just a dream. Dreaming of such a good thing, of course she eagerly nodded—and was promptly dragged into the cheesy three-rate dog-blood novel The Arrogant School Hunk Fell for Me by this damn system.
In the original, the male lead Gu Beichen was the leader of the campus F4: wealthy family, strikingly handsome, arrogant and domineering.
The heroine Zhang Qiu, in contrast, came from an ordinary family, supporting herself through part-time jobs and scholarships.
They’d started out disliking each other, full of misunderstandings, but gradually grew close and fell in love. Had the story ended there, it would’ve been a sweet Cinderella-and-prince fairy tale. But the author had written it so well that readers demanded extras.
And in those extras, the tone completely changed—from sugary Mary Sue romance to bitter slice-of-life melodrama.
Instead of living happily ever after, Zhang Qiu and Gu Beichen faced real-life problems. Gu, from a privileged family, wanted to marry right after graduation. His mother pretended to agree but secretly despised Zhang Qiu, thinking she was a gold-digger deliberately clinging to her son. Otherwise, why would she rush to marry right after graduation?
Gu, still lost in his romantic fantasy, failed to notice the conflict between Zhang Qiu and his family. Life’s grinding pressures slowly wore down their love, until it ended in a tragic BE (bad ending).
Readers were outraged, demanding a rewrite. The author ghosted them. With dissatisfaction skyrocketing, the system had no choice but to recruit Lin Luoluo—an avid reader of more than ten years—to fix the couple’s doomed fate.
Lin Luoluo sighed, her curls drooping like soft sheep ears covering her face. Somehow, a dried leaf clung to her head. She muttered wearily, “Ah, life…”
“Lin Luoluo? What are you doing here?” Suddenly, Gu Beichen appeared behind her.
The system urged: 【The male lead’s here!】
Instantly, Lin Luoluo slipped into acting mode. She leapt up, eyes sparkling.
“Senior, are you done with your work?”
Gu noticed how lightly dressed she was and couldn’t help but say:
“It’s cold here. Why don’t you wait inside the auditorium?”
“By the way—have you seen Zhang Qiu?”
The light in Lin Luoluo’s eyes dimmed immediately. “No, I haven’t.”
She puffed her cheeks. Just then, Mu Yunchun walked out from behind Gu with a smile. “Well, well—why does our little Luoluo look upset again? Who bullied you? Your brother will take care of them.”
If Gu Beichen was the brooding, hot-headed princeling of F4, then Mu Yunchun was the charming playboy. He accepted every confession but dumped each girl within a month. Smooth with everyone, but never sincere.
Lin Luoluo was a little afraid of him. She hid behind Gu, muttering, “Senior and I are childhood friends, but every time he sees me he only asks where Zhang Qiu is! I’m not even close to her—how would I know where she is?!”
To aid her role as “assistant,” the system had fabricated an identity for her: the male lead’s childhood friend, recently returned from abroad. She was a sophomore, two years younger than him, treated like a kid sister, with close ties to his family.
To those he considered family, Gu was kind. He patted Lin Luoluo’s shoulder with his big hand—so hard she seemed to shrink three centimeters shorter.
“Zhang Qiu is your sister-in-law. She’s easy to get along with—you’ll like her in time.”
Lin Luoluo pursed her lips. “That… commoner…”
But under Mu Yunchun’s sharp gaze, she dared not finish.
In the original, Mu had once competed with Gu for the heroine’s affection, but ultimately lost. Still fond of her, he wouldn’t tolerate anyone insulting Zhang Qiu.
Gu said: “Club recruitment’s still going. This afternoon’s the student council election. You’re running, aren’t you? Is your speech ready?”
He was the student council president; Zhang Qiu, the vice president. With their graduation near, it was time for new officers to be elected.
Lin Luoluo’s face crumpled with reluctance.
Gu ruffled her hair. “Didn’t you join student council abroad too? Back here, what’s there to fear? Just show your resume. With me backing you, no one will dare give you trouble.”
“Oh? Gu Da-Shao opening back doors for someone? I thought you hated that sort of thing,” Mu teased, glancing at Lin Luoluo.
She bared her teeth—clearly sensing his hostility.
Gu just laughed, punching Mu’s shoulder. “Luoluo’s got real ability. She doesn’t need me to open doors. I was only reassuring her.”
“Gu Beichen, reassuring someone? That’s rare,” Mu sneered. He hated seeing Gu act kind to others but turn into a silent fool in front of Zhang Qiu—always hurting her.
Gu sensed Mu’s animosity. He frowned slightly, glanced at Lin Luoluo, then quickly looked away. “There’s still recruitment today. Look around if you like. If you get cold, go into the auditorium—there’s a drama club performance. And don’t forget the election this afternoon.”
“Mm.” Lin Luoluo nodded.
“I’ve got business with him. We’ll be off.” Gu slung an arm over Mu’s shoulder and dragged him away.
Only when they were gone did Lin Luoluo finally relax. She rubbed her stiff cheeks, sighing. “What am I gonna do about the speech this afternoon…”
The system could only cheer her on.
“Luoluo, you’ve got this! Show your strength!”
She groaned, tugging at her curls that whipped messily in the wind.
It was still early spring, with a lingering chill. A gust of wind made her shiver as she hurried toward the auditorium. Her curls blew across her eyes, blocking her vision. Just as she pushed her hair aside, someone stepped out right in front of her.
Her eyes widened in alarm. “Move!”
They both dodged—but to the same side. Crash.
Lin Luoluo plunged face-first into the other person’s soft chest. Her nose filled with a pleasant fragrance. Her knees hit the ground hard with a cry of pain. The other person was knocked down too, Lin ending up straddling their waist.
The stranger propped themselves up on one arm, but her curls covered their face entirely.
Lin Luoluo’s cheeks flushed crimson. Flustered, she scrambled to get up, but in her panic she pressed too hard on their shoulders, shoving them back down. She tumbled forward again—right into their arms, crashing against that soft chest once more.
