The Reborn Scummy A and the Sickly O Got Together - Chapter 28
If her mother, Lu Ping, or even her grandmother were to witness this wretched and humiliating scene, Luo Mingyue couldn’t help but feel a twisted, perverse sense of satisfaction.
Her family would surely be shocked Luo Mingyue could actually act like an alpha.
She, too, could feel anger, could throw a punch, rather than being constantly misunderstood as merely a tall omega or beta girl.
But humans were inherently capable of anger, resentment, and indignation. A person who never showed negative emotions… as others had said, would only make her seem like a fake.
Luo Mingyue and Qin Yan now sat at opposite ends of the room. The beautiful young alpha’s hair had come undone, and she simply pulled out the red ribbon, letting her styled curls fall loosely over her shoulders.
“He threw the first punch,” Luo Mingyue muttered, rubbing her cheek and avoiding Feng Baiming’s gaze.
Regret gnawed at her. Anyone else could have seen this scene, why did it have to be Miss Feng?
The young alpha looked pitiful, like a wronged child.
Tentatively, she called out, “Miss Feng…”
Then, in a voice tinged with sorrow, she whispered, “I’m sorry.”
Feng Baiming sighed. “Why are you apologizing to me?”
Luo Mingyue covered her face in shame. “You shouldn’t have had to witness such an ugly spectacle.”
Qin Yan watched coldly, almost laughing in disbelief. Luo Mingyue had no experience in fighting, his punch had landed squarely on her face, and she hadn’t even tried to dodge.
“So you can hit back too,” Qin Yan sneered in a low voice. “We all thought you were spineless. Don’t worry, I’ll set the record straight your fists pack a punch after all.”
The area beneath Qin Yan’s right eye was already swelling and bruising. At a glance, it looked like he had a black eye, though an asymmetrical one, making it seem as if he’d only stayed up with one eye.
“Are the two of you in middle school or elementary school?”
Feng Baiming’s calm voice was laced with exasperation. She hardly knew what to say to these two alphas and couldn’t help but scoff. “Qin Yan, I just came to say hello. You’re still as quick to lose your temper as ever.”
“And you…”
She turned to the young girl. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to scold her, but seeing her shrink into herself like a wounded animal softened Feng Baiming’s heart despite herself.
“I understand you were upset because of your sister,” Feng Baiming said gently. “But Miss Luo, we live in a civilized society now, not some ancient era where alphas duel over omegas.”
“He threw the first punch,” Luo Mingyue groaned in protest.
How could she possibly have fought Qin Yan over Lu Jia? His fist had already connected with her face, she hadn’t dodged, so she’d retaliated…
Perhaps, in her past life, Luo Mingyue might have endured the blow and tried to reason with him.
But this Luo Mingyue, who had witnessed her past life from the outside, had suddenly realized that kindness without strength was just another word for weakness.
If her kindness always meant retreat, she would never earn respect.
But how could she clarify that it wasn’t for Lu Jia? Luo Mingyue couldn’t think of a suitable explanation and could only repeatedly emphasize: “Lu Jia is my sister, we are biological sisters connected by blood.”
Qin Yan coldly added fuel to the fire: “A sister so distant she might as well be from another province. I’ve never seen a sister get so worked up over her sibling’s love life.”
“Do you think everyone is like you, falling in love after just a few conversations?” Luo Mingyue couldn’t accept this slander and immediately retorted.
She instantly regretted showing such an aggressive side and stealthily glanced at Feng Baiming. Sure enough, Miss Feng was looking at her with surprise.
This made her feel disheartened. Perhaps she still didn’t understand why Miss Feng liked her, but she vaguely realized it had something to do with how she was always different from other alphas.
Now, did she appear just like any other alpha, impulsive, rude, and easily emotional?
Luo Mingyue felt like a failure. Even knowing what was coming, fate still looked down on her with mocking disdain. Mortals think they can control destiny by starting over, but the tree of fate grows new branches, and events refuse to follow the expected path.
Qin Yan accepted the accusation. The handsome young man fell silent for a moment before forcing a smile that didn’t reach his eyes: “It wasn’t just a few conversations, nor were they casual chats. What do you know? Have you ever loved someone? Opening up your wounds to each other, sharing your life stories, confiding every daily joy and sorrow to another person.”
“Two people of different genders, who should have had nothing in common, yet you discover she understands your pain, that her experiences are even more tragic than yours. Do you think two souls who’ve suffered together through the night would just casually fall for a girl?”
“If that were the case, I would’ve dated countless omegas or betas by now.”
Qin Yan’s smile grew increasingly bitter, as Luo Mingyue’s confrontation made him realize Lu Jia had likely said the same things to more than one person.
Listening silently to this cold prince’s words, Luo Mingyue suddenly empathized. If not for such lonely, desolate souls, how could they keep falling prey to those with ulterior motives?
“But she deceived me.” Qin Yan’s smile vanished, replaced by flames of anger in his eyes.
“Luo Mingyue, yet you come here to accuse me. Do you think of yourself as some noble, brave, righteous protector of your sister? You’re nothing but an accomplice to an emotional fraud. If you had any shame left, you’d feel guilt and disgrace for what you’ve said!”
Qin Yan’s fury didn’t subside. He even began lashing out indiscriminately, heedless of Feng Baiming’s presence.
He angrily denounced: “The prettier the omega, the more naturally deceitful they are! You should stand with me on this, they toy with us alphas’ emotions, revel in our pursuit, feeding their pathetic, disgusting vanity!”
The angrier Qin Yan became, the more Luo Mingyue lowered her head, covering her face. She thought witnessing his expected resentment would bring a triumphant smile, but in this moment, sorrow overwhelmed the seeds of hatred.
Yet she still spoke up as planned: “Jiajia is still young. She doesn’t know better, but must you act just as immature?”
Qin Yan looked at her coldly. “I’m only one year older than Lu Jia.”
“Just make sure those photos don’t get leaked,” Luo Mingyue casually reminded again. “Besides you, I’ll also need to talk to those alphas like Aylia. None of you should act impulsively, this could cause serious trouble for Jiajia.”
Qin Yan made a disgusted expression as if he’d swallowed a fly. “What’s that got to do with me? If she doesn’t care about showing those photos around, then any leak would be her own carelessness.”
Feng Baiming frowned. “What photos are we talking about?”
Luo Mingyue thought to herself that she didn’t actually know. In her past life, Lu Jia had never mentioned this matter, nor had she known that Qin Yan and Lu Jia were secretly “underground lovers.”
She simply emphasized, “Especially with so many people here tonight, including those alphas who have feelings for Jiajia. You mustn’t let this get exposed to them in a moment of impulse.”
“With so many people around, it would ruin Jiajia’s reputation and dignity.”
After saying this, Luo Mingyue gestured for Qin Yan to leave. She knew there were still loopholes, she should have been more forceful about making Qin Yan delete the photos.
But she looked utterly exhausted, her weary face and slumped posture giving off an air of someone who had given up on everything.
She was simply too tired to care anymore, not intentionally hinting at Qin Yan to do anything.
Qin Yan stared at her for a moment, then picked up the pitiful bouquet of roses that had lost many petals. After straightening his clothes, he strode out the door with ridiculous dark circles under his eyes, full of bluster.
Feng Baiming sighed. “Wait, Qin Yan.”
Qin Yan opened the door without turning back. “My words didn’t include you. But if you’re going to persuade me to forgive, have you considered whether your approach is pleading for the wrongdoer while disregarding the victim’s position?”
Feng Baiming fell silent. The door slammed shut with a “bang,” as if striking the hearts of the two remaining in the room.
“I’ve done something wrong,” the girl looked up at her, misty eyes brimming with sorrowful peach-blossom hues that reflected Feng Baiming’s upright figure.
“Asking the victim to forgive the perpetrator is the greatest cruelty in this world.”
Feng Baiming closed her eyes momentarily. For a second, it felt as if this person’s overwhelming grief came crashing down—thick, oppressive emotions like the humid summer rain in the capital…
Nearly drowning her.
This was precisely what puzzled her, what could have happened to make Luo Mingyue always seem to exude such profound sorrow when least expected?
Feng Baiming still suppressed her suspicions about Luo Mingyue. Those words to Qin Yan had been too pointed, and thus not particularly clever.
But humans aren’t creatures entirely controlled by reason. Emotionally, she didn’t want to believe Luo Mingyue could be the type to scheme against Lu Jia.
She wasn’t like Lu Ping, who came to visit only to add flowers to the brocade after the fact. Then surely she wouldn’t be the kind to add fuel to the fire or kick someone when they’re down.
