The Reborn Scummy A and the Sickly O Got Together - Chapter 24
Qin Yan was the youngest brother of Lu An’s husband, a male alpha. Luo Mingyue was one grade below him in the same high school, making them senior and junior.
But Qin Yan was Luo Mingyue’s polar opposite.
Both were well-known figures in high school, but unlike Luo Mingyue, who earned the nickname “Central Air Conditioning, the Ultimate Warm Alpha,” Qin Yan was cold and arrogant.
Luo Mingyue had barely exchanged a few words with him back then. She used to think someone like him would have no friends.
Whenever an omega confessed to him, he would ignore them with an icy expression. If someone asked for his help and he wasn’t willing, he would refuse without hesitation.
He rarely smiled, his handsome face always set in a stern line, his gaze cold and indifferent no matter who he looked at.
Yet, he was incredibly popular. Omegas even praised him as the “Aloof Prince,” claiming that whoever won his love would be the luckiest person alive.
During class elections, people always nominated and voted for him because they believed he had the aura of a leader.
He was the complete opposite of Luo Mingyue, and she knew they were nothing alike.
Still, she couldn’t help but wonder, could someone really be loved by others without being kind or gentle?
Didn’t that make everything she’d been taught seem like a joke?
In her past life, it was during the banquet supposedly held to welcome Feng Baiming that Luo Mingyue learned Qin Yan had feelings for Lu Jia.
It was the same as this time, Friday evening, guests arriving as scheduled. She had just tied her hair back with a ribbon when Lu Jia burst into the room in a panic.
“Mingyue-jie, I, I’ve messed up big time.”
The girl’s face was flushed with distress, nearly throwing herself into Luo Mingyue’s arms.
Luo Mingyue instinctively held her, just like when they were kids and Lu Jia would sneak into her room at night, clutching a pillow and whimpering, “Jiejie, I’m scared of the dark. Can I sleep with you?”
Petite and delicate, Lu Jia’s amber eyes brimmed with tears, making her look like a small, helpless, and utterly adorable creature.
“What happened?”
She gently patted the girl’s back, just as she had in their childhood, when the two of them, outsiders in the sprawling Lu family estate had no one else to rely on but each other.
Lu Jia told her everything that was about to happen that night. At the time, Luo Mingyue didn’t think it was a big deal.
It was just that Lu Jia had added several classmates, and among them, she had chatted more frequently with Qin Yan and two other alphas.
“They misunderstood. I told them I only saw them as close friends, but Qin Yan and Ailiya both plan to confess to me tonight. I’ve tried to stop them so many times.”
Lu Jia wiped her eyes. “Ailiya is mixed-race, outgoing and cheerful. She said she’d compete with Qin Yan openly, but Qin Yan… he holds grudges. He’ll definitely retaliate against me!”
“Even though I don’t know Qin Yan well, if you explain things clearly, he shouldn’t be so unreasonable,” Luo Mingyue reassured her softly.
“No, you don’t understand anything. I’ve talked with him many times, he’s always believed his parents favored his older brother and younger sister. His mind is twisted and narrow. If Qin Yan wants revenge against me, he could easily destroy my reputation!”
Lu Jia was crying bitterly at that moment, her voice rising to a shrill, hysterical pitch by the end.
For an instant, Luo Mingyue felt something unfamiliar about her sister as if a superficial mask had cracked, revealing the hysterical soul beneath Lu Jia’s delicate exterior.
“Jiajia, it’s alright. I’ll convince Qin Yan. I’ll stop what’s going to happen tonight.”
“How will you convince him? If you can’t, at least delay him. Don’t let him run into Aylia. Sister Mingyue, you’re an alpha too, I believe you can restrain him…”
Lu Jia threw herself into her arms, clinging to her and sobbing uncontrollably.
In her past life, Luo Mingyue had thought this was just a pitiable young girl without someone to care for her, how could such a fragile, helpless child survive in this world?
By evening, she stationed herself at the entrance, exchanging polite greetings with every arriving guest until her smile nearly froze in place.
Lu Ping wandered over once, puzzled. “You don’t actually need to stand here playing hostess. Is this really worth doing? Aren’t you hungry or tired?”
From five o’clock until nearly seven, Luo Mingyue stood there hungry, exhausted, having only drunk a glass of water, her voice nearly gone from conversing with guests, before finally spotting Qin Yan approaching with an enormous bouquet of fiery red roses.
Being an alpha herself, she simply slung an arm around his shoulders and forcibly dragged him into her room.
Her plan was straightforward: explain things clearly. Lu Jia just enjoyed making friends. While as an omega her frequent interactions with alphas might cause misunderstandings, there was nothing wrong with a young person’s desire for companionship.
Qin Yan proved rather extreme. He rejected this explanation outright, sneering, “Your sister is toying with my feelings, and you’re her accomplice. I should’ve known, pretty omegas like her get off on playing with alphas’ emotions.”
“Jiajia isn’t like that,” Luo Mingyue frowned. “You shouldn’t judge her just because she rejected your confession. That’s terribly ungracious.”
His gaze was contemptuous and furious. “She’s been stringing along multiple alphas! Tonight someone else will confess to her too, she’s played with more than just my feelings. Yet here you are scolding me for lacking grace, as if this is all my fault?!”
Seeing Qin Yan’s rage escalating, Luo Mingyue blocked the door. After a long silence, she began recounting her childhood experiences of relying on each other with Lu Jia.
“These halls have many rooms, fresh food, warm clothes, things you probably take for granted. But I was abandoned at an orphanage by my mother, and Jiajia was discarded by her parents too. For us, having these material comforts now is something we must cherish and be endlessly grateful for.”
“But you only need to wield a little bit of power to ruin Jiajia’s reputation! Grandmother would abandon her without hesitation! Qin Yan, but Jiajia is a very important sister to me. When I was little, I often wondered, is this really a home?”
“The house is so big and beautiful, yet at night it felt like a pitch-black monster that could swallow children whole! My childhood should have been cold and devoid of warmth, but it was Jiajia who would snuggle up beside me and say, ‘Sister, you’re the only family I have in this world…'”
By the end, Luo Mingyue’s voice was nearly choked with emotion. Only then did she realize she had lost her composure, these lengthy words probably sounded dull and tedious to others.
After a long silence, the young male alpha finally set down the bouquet of roses. He wiped his eyes and said, “Fine. I won’t bother Lu Jia anymore, nor will I seek revenge. All out of respect for you, Luo Mingyue.”
In her past life, Luo Mingyue had torn open her heart, revealing the bloody truth she had been unwilling to acknowledge, and in return, she had gained Qin Yan’s pity.
But what about this lifetime?
Lu An picked up her teacup, took an elegant sip of black tea, and replied with a smile, “You know my uncle? Of course, he’s coming. He seemed to be in quite a good mood, probably some stroke of luck in love recently.”
Luo Mingyue nodded. “I’m glad Qin Yan is coming.”
After all, if this character were absent, how else would she get to watch the melodramatic spectacle about to unfold tonight?
