The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 8
“As long as it is with Teacher Song Wenzhi, I would be very happy.”
Yu Kunian spoke so bluntly that Song Wenzhi’s movements while eating came to a momentary halt. Yu Kunian wanted to see her—starting from the moment they parted last night—at least, that was how Song Wenzhi understood it.
Realizing this, Song Wenzhi’s heart began to race again. She subconsciously lifted her eyes, only to collide directly with Yu Kunian’s burning gaze.
In the next second, Yu Kunian suddenly leaned toward her. Song Wenzhi froze in place, watching Yu Kunian’s face gradually draw closer; her breath hitched slightly.
However, Yu Kunian merely smiled. “Coffee or soy milk?”
“Soy milk,” Song Wenzhi replied, feigning composure.
Yu Kunian inserted the straw into soy milk and placed it by Song Wenzhi’s hand before asking unhurriedly, “How does Teacher Song Wenzhi usually arrange her breakfast?”
“Occasionally I cook for myself in the apartment, but mostly I go to the staff cafeteria.”
“Would you mind an extra person?”
“Eating at the cafeteria together?”
Upon hearing this, Yu Kunian’s eyes flickered, her gaze quietly roaming over Song Wenzhi’s features as a shallow smile rose like the morning sun. Yu Kunian’s voice seemed to gain a bit of magnetic depth: “If Teacher Song Wenzhi likes going to the cafeteria, then I will go with you. If Teacher Song Wenzhi occasionally wants to eat something else, I will buy it and bring it over. As long as it is with Teacher Song Wenzhi, no matter what we eat for breakfast, I will be very happy.”
Song Wenzhi unconsciously bit down on her straw, lowering her eyes as she fell into thought. She was considering whether this would cause inconvenience for Yu Kunian; after all, driving to Lihua University every day did not seem like a simple task.
“I generally don’t have much to do at this time in the morning, and I’m free once in a while, so I could even go to the classroom to listen to Teacher Song Wenzhi’s lectures,” Yu Kunian added, coincidentally answering Song Wenzhi’s hesitation.
Song Wenzhi looked up and asked her, “Doesn’t President Yu find it troublesome?”
Yu Kunian handed her a tissue. “It’s not trouble at all. Moreover, if I lost the opportunity to spend time with Teacher Song Wenzhi just because of a ‘trouble,’ then I would not be a qualified pursuer.”
Having said that, Yu Kunian tapped her phone and pointed at the time on the screen, adding: “It’s time for Teacher Song Wenzhi to go to class. You can use the whole day today to consider it; I will wait for your reply.”
She calmly packed up the things on the table and tilted the corners of her lips at Song Wenzhi. She was constantly moving closer to Song Wenzhi, yet her behavior was always appropriate and never overstepped boundaries, causing Song Wenzhi not a hint of discomfort.
Song Wenzhi stood up and gave Yu Kunian a slight nod. “Thank you, President Yu. I will give it careful consideration.”
Yu Kunian walked Song Wenzhi to the base of the teaching building. There were many students passing by, and all of them frequently cast curious glances at the two of them. A few individual students even greeted Song Wenzhi before boldly asking with a grin, “Teacher Song Wenzhi, is this your new pursuer? Where is Sister Weichi? Isn’t she coming to help you block these ‘peach blossoms’?”
Song Wenzhi turned to look at Yu Kunian, only to see her nodding with a lingering smile. Yu Kunian spoke up: “Yes, I am currently pursuing your Teacher Song Wenzhi. I hope Teacher Song Wenzhi… won’t drive this peach blossom away.”
“Don’t talk nonsense, class is about to start,” Song Wenzhi said hurriedly, turning her head back. It sounded like she was speaking to the students, but it also felt as if she were speaking to Yu Kunian.
There was a certain sense of—trying to hide the obvious.
Yu Kunian waved at Song Wenzhi with an unchanging expression. Only after watching her enter the teaching building did the expression on her face slowly fade. When she turned to leave, only a gaze full of somberness remained.
In the chat box, a new message was sent to Jiang Qiu: She didn’t like that gift; she didn’t wear it today.
After sending it, she recalled the “Sister Weichi” the student had mentioned. Presumably, that was the rumored Alpha who had always been by Song Wenzhi’s side.
Jiang Qiu hadn’t sent her the information about that Alpha yet, so Yu Kunian found a coffee shop outside the school to sit in. Since she was free for the moment, she reached out to several personal shoppers from membership brands in her contacts. After careful selection, she finally decided to send Song Wenzhi another wristwatch.
She planned to make it a custom piece—a unique gift.
However, she needed to probe Song Wenzhi’s preferences first; all designs should ideally follow Song Wenzhi’s tastes.
Perhaps a silk scarf wasn’t that practical for daily use, but a watch was something one would always remember to wear. Yu Kunian made the decision quickly and paid the deposit, requesting rare materials. As long as it was exquisite and magnificent, she wouldn’t mind even if the craftsmanship was complex.
While she was thinking this, Jiang Qiu’s call suddenly came through.
Yu Kunian picked up. “Found something?”
“She has quite the background,” Jiang Qiu sighed first before relaying the information she had gathered: “That Alpha is named Xia Weichi. She is a medical expert in Omega health and one of the partners of an international medical organization. Currently, she serves as the general head of a multinational Omega medical aid project, dealing directly with the government. Although her long-term business is abroad, she seems to need to return to the country periodically to coordinate relevant medical resources. However, she isn’t in the country right now; she probably won’t be back until next month—Kunian, it seems even Heaven is helping you.”
Yu Kunian had never taken this Alpha to heart. “It doesn’t matter if she’s here or not.”
“How does it not matter?” Jiang Qiu disagreed. “She’s a director that even the Committee has to interface with personally. I heard that she currently has an Omega aid plan that is a major focus project, and because it’s an export cooperation, the government takes it very seriously. If things go sideways, you might even have to cooperate with her work in the future. If she wants to target you, she really could cause your company losses.”
“Then she’d have to be capable enough,” Yu Kunian said nonchalantly.
She didn’t care about what kind of background this so-called Xia Weichi had. She only wanted to know why Song Wenzhi would maintain a good relationship with Alpha for so many years but remain only friends, even in a situation where it was common knowledge that Xia Weichi was interested in her.
Jiang Qiu laughed. “Yes, yes, our President Yu is the most formidable; no one can trip her up.” Having said that, she steered the conversation back to the content Yu Kunian was interested in: “Xia Weichi used to be Teacher Song Wenzhi’s attending physician. They had already known each other for many years before coming to Lihua City. As for what illness Teacher Song Wenzhi had, or whether she is cured now… there’s no word on that, so I couldn’t find out.”
Yu Kunian hadn’t heard of Song Wenzhi having any chronic illness that required long-term treatment, and she hadn’t noticed anything unusual during their interactions over the past few days. For now, Yu Kunian assumed that Xia Weichi was acting as a lifestyle doctor, helping Song Wenzhi maintain her health.
“How did they meet? Alumni?”
“No. Their parents knew each other. They played together before they even presented, so their relationship is still quite good today. But…” Jiang Qiu looked at the data she had found and suddenly hesitated.
Seeing her fall silent, Yu Kunian frowned and asked, “What is it?”
“I also found out a little something else, regarding Teacher Song Wenzhi’s family… do you want to know?”
Yu Kunian: “Mhm, continue.”
Jiang Qiu said: “Teacher Song Wenzhi’s father was also in pharmaceutical research. He started a company back then, and Xia Weichi studied under him at the very beginning, which is why she was so close to Teacher Song Wenzhi. But she left after a few months to pursue further studies in another city. Later, the company ran into trouble involving quite a few people. Teacher Song Wenzhi’s father went to prison, and Teacher Song Wenzhi, along with other family members, was implicated, burdened with a huge amount of debt—this was a famous news story in Yin City at the time. I suspect that even now, Teacher Song Wenzhi hasn’t finished paying it off…”
The annual salary Lihua University offered Song Wenzhi was not low—at least higher than most professors in the school—but even so, those debts that she shouldn’t have had to bear were still not settled. Unfortunately, since the relevant judgment documents were not public, Yu Kunian had no way of knowing how much money Song Wenzhi still needed to repay. She fell into a long silence. No wonder Song Wenzhi was still living in the staff apartments and would so easily agree to her request for tutoring.
On the other end of the phone, Jiang Qiu sighed. “I didn’t intend to dig into Teacher Song Wenzhi’s family situation, but this matter was very easy to find. I didn’t expect Teacher Song Wenzhi to encounter such a thing; otherwise, perhaps, she wouldn’t have taken the risk to accept the invitation from Lihua University back then.”
Song Wenzhi was indeed a very resilient Omega.
After all, no matter how one looked at it, the total compensation amount wouldn’t be a small sum. Jiang Qiu began to realize: could the reason Song Wenzhi didn’t accept anyone’s pursuit also be because of these debts?
Yu Kunian seemed to be thinking the same thing. “To me, this is a good thing.”
If Song Wenzhi needed her help, she would gladly accept and be willing to solve all of Song Wenzhi’s worries. And this kind of help would, under normal circumstances, lead to Song Wenzhi’s reliance on her.
Then, the matter regarding marriage would become much easier.
“I don’t think Teacher Song Wenzhi is the type of person who would let others pay off her debts,” Jiang Qiu said, regretfully throwing cold water on the idea.
If Song Wenzhi were willing to accept help from others, then with Xia Weichi’s capabilities, the debt should have been paid off long ago—as Song Wenzhi’s only close friend, there was no way she wouldn’t know about the disaster Song Wenzhi encountered in Yin City.
Yu Kunian raised an eyebrow. “Who knows.”
Xia Weichi was only a friend; it was perfectly normal not to accept such a massive favor. But her goal was to date and marry Song Wenzhi; eventually, the day would come when Song Wenzhi would tell her about it.
Jiang Qiu harbored doubts about Yu Kunian’s confidence, but because of Yu Kunian’s very firm tone, she shook off the doubt and told her, “I’ll wait for your good news.”
After speaking, Jiang Qiu went to investigate the other matter Yu Kunian had asked her to check.
“That wealthy Omega lady ran away,” Jiang Qiu said succinctly. “No one knows which city she fled to. Supposedly, on the day she was scheduled to meet you, she bought a ticket and left. She hasn’t been found yet.”
Yu Kunian said, “It seems she doesn’t want an arranged marriage either.”
“Then it’s very strange; this marriage was clearly brought up by her in the first place.” Jiang Qiu was a bit puzzled. “I can’t figure out what this Omega heiress wants to do. It feels like she’s playing with people.”
Yu Kunian was certain she didn’t know that, Omega; they hadn’t even met. For the other party to specifically choose her as a marriage partner was indeed strange. Everyone claimed this Omega was sensible and well-behaved, but Yu Kunian didn’t feel that at all; instead, she felt the other party was subtly mischievous.
However, none of that mattered to Yu Kunian anymore. Yu Kunian gave a casual response and was about to hang up. Jiang Qiu asked her what she was going to do. Yu Kunian stood up, the corners of her lips curved upward as she said:
“Go find a place on campus to wait for Teacher Song Wenzhi to finish her class.”
