The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 7
“I am serious about pursuing you, Professor Song Wenzhi.”
When Yu Kunian arrived at the entrance of Jiang Qiu’s shop, she noticed several new messages on her phone. Standing at the foot of the stairs, she tapped into her chat with Song Wenzhi.
The first two messages were separated from the last by a few minutes. The final sticker was adorable—so adorable that Yu Kunian couldn’t help but imagine the expression on Song Wenzhi’s face when she sent it.
The mere attempt to visualize that scene made her chuckle, a smile spreading across her face. She quickly replied: Okay, I’ll arrange my schedule for tonight.
Jiang Qiu came downstairs and saw her standing still. Raising an eyebrow, she approached, catching a rare glimpse of joy on Yu Kunian’s face as if she had been frozen in place by her phone.
Jiang Qiu glanced down at the screen. The other party replied quickly with an “OK” emoji. Yu Kunian seemed to be looking for a matching kitten sticker to send back, but the phone was suddenly snatched away by Jiang Qiu.
Jiang Qiu locked the screen and teased with a laugh, “My, my, CEO Yu—has Professor Song Wenzhi stolen your soul?”
“She’s quite interesting.” In every aspect, she managed to pique Yu Kunian’s interest.
Jiang Qiu clicked her tongue twice, having no intention of returning the phone just yet. “She’s a famous Omega at Lihua University, how could she not be interesting? But my dear CEO Yu, since when did you like this type?”
Hearing this, Yu Kunian let out a light laugh and stepped onto the stairs, her voice turning perfectly calm:
“I don’t ‘like’ anyone. As long as they are useful to me, I will make good use of them.”
She had never denied inheriting the cold blood of her family. The word “like” was something she never truly considered. She was a businesswoman, and businesspeople sought profit in everything—including emotions.
Jiang Qiu clearly didn’t believe her. “Do you know what you looked like just now when you were replying? Like a love-struck Alpha.”
“I am simply playing the role of a suitable Alpha for Professor Song Wenzhi; I suppose I’ve just stayed in character,” Yu Kunian said dismissively. “I am very clear about my objectives.”
As they entered the private room, the smile on Yu Kunian’s face vanished entirely. Her features settled into an expression of indifference toward everything, making her seem unapproachable.
Jiang Qiu finally saw the “everyday” version of Yu Kunian—unfeeling and aloof. Even though she always wore a mask of polite smiles as “CEO Yu” in public.
“So, how’s the progress?” Jiang Qiu sat down beside her, placing the phone on the table.
Yu Kunian recalled Song Wenzhi’s reaction.
“Passable.”
“She refused you once, but didn’t you say she eventually accepted the gift?” Jiang Qiu asked with interest. “How was that silk scarf? I picked it out personally; no Omega could dislike it.”
Yu Kunian replied, “She didn’t have many reactions.”
She hadn’t noticed any particular change in Song Wenzhi; the woman had been as calm as water. After Yu Kunian finished tying the scarf for her, Song Wenzhi simply said goodbye. Yu Kunian couldn’t judge whether she liked it or not.
Jiang Qiu frowned. “That shouldn’t be… could it be that it didn’t suit her taste at all? As expected of a difficult Omega. Kunian, you’re going to have to put in a lot of effort.”
“I don’t have much time.” It had been a whim at the start, thinking that pursuing her wouldn’t take much effort, but it now appeared that Song Wenzhi would require more time than other Omegas. However, she had to settle this as soon as possible.
Otherwise, she would be forced to fulfill that loathsome arranged marriage.
Jiang Qiu said, “I think there’s still a great chance. Since Professor Song Wenzhi is willing to be your tutor, it means she’s accepted spending more one-on-one time with you. This is the perfect chance to use your charm. During this month of tutoring, do exactly as I say: be meticulous, patient, and start a relentless pursuit to make her fall for you.”
Yu Kunian looked at her with a hint of skepticism. “Are you sure this works?”
“Whether I’m sure or not, do you have any other choice?” In truth, Jiang Qiu didn’t know if it would work either; she was just repeating what she saw in videos.
After all, she had never pursued anyone herself. Her only relationship had been a total failure, so she could only rely on online relationship analyses and “how-to-woo” guides.
Yu Kunian rolled her eyes helplessly but acknowledged that Jiang Qiu was right. She reached for her phone, opened the screenshot of the class schedule Song Wenzhi had sent, and began filtering for times when they were both free.
The prerequisite for pursuit was frequent meetings.
Yu Kunian canceled her non-essential appointments for the next morning, deciding to go and say “good morning” to Song Wenzhi.
Jiang Qiu wasn’t as repelled by the idea of an arranged marriage. “Spending so much effort to pursue a stranger just to avoid marrying some daughter of a wealthy family… it would make sense if you were head over heels for Song Wenzhi, but you don’t even like her. That doesn’t seem much different from an arranged marriage.”
Yu Kunian replied, “Even if it’s a marriage, I will be the one choosing the person.”
“I understand. You were suppressed too hard before; your rebellion now is justifiable.”
“I just don’t want to be their puppet,” Yu Kunian said noncommittally. “Unlike you, being so submissive.”
Yu Kunian was referring to how easily Jiang Qiu had accepted her family’s arrangement. Her fiancé was an Omega who hadn’t even returned to the country yet; they hadn’t met once, and yet the date for the engagement party was already set.
Jiang Qiu shrugged indifferently. “What does it matter who I marry? That Omega is well-mannered and elegant perfect partner. Besides, it benefits my family’s business, so why not?”
Yu Kunian’s gaze lingered on her for a moment. In the dim lighting of the room, Jiang Qiu heard her ask:
“The type you like… isn’t that kind of person, is it?”
Jiang Qiu couldn’t answer. She choked on her words and fell into a long, sustained silence. She gripped her wine glass a bit tighter. A certain figure refused to leave her mind, and a spark seemed to flicker in her heart, making her lips tremble slightly.
Ha, a failed first love.
Jiang Qiu gave a self-deprecating laugh and downed her drink in one go. A moment later, she wagged her index finger at Yu Kunian.
“Like? I don’t ‘like’ anyone. Relationships are just for fun; who takes them seriously?”
In reality, she was the only one who had taken it seriously. Hiding the bitterness in her eyes, Jiang Qiu pretended nothing was wrong and smiled again. She had never told anyone about her past. Partly because she was ashamed, and partly because she felt it was unnecessary.
Thus, Yu Kunian had no idea she had ever been in love.
“True, but I haven’t seen you try to date anyone lately,” Yu Kunian said, not noticing her friend’s emotional shift. She looked down and casually sent a “See you tomorrow” message to Song Wenzhi. Song Wenzhi was likely asleep, as there was no immediate reply.
In the list of unread messages below Song Wenzhi’s name, Yang Jin’s were the most numerous. Yu Kunian clicked on them; the content was always the same—inquiring about company business followed by command-like instructions.
Yu Kunian never told Yang Jin anything, but Yang Jin had her ways. No matter how small the stir within the company, Yang Jin knew everything clearly.
It was infuriating.
Jiang Qiu asked, “I’m not interested. But I wish you luck in catching Professor Song Wenzhi—by the way, is there any news about that Omega you’re supposed to marry?”
Yang Jin had mentioned rescheduling, but there had been no movement lately.
Yu Kunian put down her phone. “I don’t know. Ideally, we never meet.”
“It feels like the other party isn’t too keen on the marriage either, which buys you some time.”
“Help me keep an eye on Omega’s recent movements. And that Alpha you mentioned before, the one always around Professor Song Wenzhi—look into them as well.”
Jiang Qiu nodded. “I’m free lately. If that Omega makes any moves, I’ll find a way to stall things for you.”
Yu Kunian gave a hum of affirmation and stood up. “I’m heading back.”
As she pushed the door to leave, Jiang Qiu didn’t see her out, merely waving her hand behind her back with a “Bye-bye.”
The next morning, Yu Kunian appeared at the door of Song Wenzhi’s office. She had arrived early and looked down from the hallway window, spotting Song Wenzhi exactly as expected.
Yu Kunian adjusted her glasses, a smile playing on her lips. She walked to the elevator and waited for the one Song Wenzhi was on to open. Her eyes locked onto the last person to step out.
“Professor Song Wenzhi,” Yu Kunian said softly, watching as Song Wenzhi looked up from replying to a message.
Hearing the familiar voice, Song Wenzhi froze instinctively. The next second, she raised her head and met Yu Kunian’s eyes. Her heart skipped a beat.
“Good morning,” Yu Kunian maintained a gentle smile. “Have you had breakfast yet, Professor?”
As she spoke, Yu Kunian held up the breakfast she had pre-ordered.
Song Wenzhi put her phone into her coat pocket, looking stunned. She was clearly surprised by Yu Kunian’s appearance. “Not yet. Why is CEO Yu here so early? I have a class this morning.” I didn’t send the schedule wrong yesterday, did I?
“There’s still time. Let’s have breakfast together,” Yu Kunian said, bypassing the question with an invitation.
Song Wenzhi hesitated, but under Yu Kunian’s sincere gaze, she eventually nodded and said, “Okay.” Yu Kunian led her to a nearby dining area and laid out the breakfast items in front of her one by one.
“I didn’t know your preferences, so I bought several varieties. Just pick what you like, Professor.”
Usually, Song Wenzhi just grabbed whatever was convenient for breakfast, rarely ensuring a balanced or varied meal. Looking at the table full of food, she didn’t know where to start.
“The croissants from this place are excellent. Why don’t you try one first?” Sensing her indecision, Yu Kunian made the choice for her.
Song Wenzhi took the suggestion, but before eating, she asked, “Isn’t our tutoring session scheduled for this afternoon?”
“Since I was coming to see you today anyway, I wanted to see you sooner.” Yu Kunian took a piece of toast for herself. “I didn’t just mention the tutoring yesterday. Regarding the other matter… I am serious.”
Song Wenzhi knew Yu Kunian was serious, but she still hadn’t fully processed the fact that Yu Kunian was pursuing her.
Yu Kunian added, “Wanting to see you earlier was my own selfish wish.”
