The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 4
She gave Yu Kunian her private number.
Hearing Yu Kunian’s voice, Song Minzhi was momentarily stunned before quickly turning her head to look. Yu Kunian had a smile on her face, and her gaze was much like it had been that day in the piano room. Song Minzhi’s fingertips curled involuntarily; she dithered for a rare moment before speaking:
“Hello.”
Yu Kunian extended her hand toward her. “So, you are Teacher Song. I’ve heard a lot about you. I hope we can get to know each other formally; I am Yu Kunian.”
For some reason, Song Minzhi’s reaction seemed a bit slow. It took her a long time to even reach out and return the handshake. Her expression remained calm, and her tone was polite yet distant: “President Yu, it is a pleasure to meet you.”
It didn’t seem to be as Director Qin had described; Yu Kunian didn’t sense a single shred of the “long-held special attention” from Song Minzhi. To Song Minzhi, it felt as if she were hearing her name for the very first time.
During this second meeting, Yu Kunian still felt that Song Minzhi was a bit strange.
So strange, in fact, that Yu Kunian wanted to understand her more deeply wanted to know why the person she saw was so different from the descriptions provided by others.
However, just as she wanted to say a few more words to Song Minzhi, someone called Song Minzhi’s name. The lecture was about to begin, and students were already trickling in. Before the opening, she indeed needed to carefully ensure there were no oversights.
“President Yu—”
“Teacher Song, go ahead and attend to your business.”
Knowing what Song Minzhi was about to say, Yu Kunian nodded to her, her smile unchanging. Before leaving, Song Minzhi glanced back at Yu Kunian and hurriedly left a sentence: “I’ll have to trouble President Yu to wait for me in the lounge.”
Yu Kunian responded, then turned and went to the lounge Song Minzhi had mentioned. She chose a seat near the door. Looking out through the half-closed door, Song Minzhi’s figure was like a hurried gust of wind, causing Yu Kunian’s eyes to move along with her.
It wasn’t until the host took the stage that Song Minzhi walked over, slightly hunched. Pushing open the lounge door, she bumped into Yu Kunian’s gaze and was stunned once again.
Yu Kunian still wore a shallow smile, her eyes seemingly plated with the softness of the morning sun. Song Minzhi’s fingertips, gripping the doorknob, turned slightly white from unintentional pressure. After a moment, her gaze lifted as Yu Kunian stood up.
“Teacher Song, is there something you wanted to say to me by asking me to wait here?” Yu Kunian asked softly, seemingly moving closer to her unintentionally.
Song Minzhi seemed to finally snap out of it. She turned and closed the door. “Yes. Regarding President Yu’s lecture this time, there might be a difference in the flow compared to ordinary lectures.”
The “difference” Song Minzhi spoke of was that while Yu Kunian was giving her speech, Song Minzhi would be on stage with her. After the speech ended, a Q&A format would be added. Aside from specific questions that Yu Kunian would need to address, Song Minzhi would handle the rest.
For some reason, the moment she heard Song Minzhi would be on stage with her, Yu Kunian felt this lecture would be perfect.
Yu Kunian: “It is an honor to have Teacher Song’s help for this lecture.”
“I also represent the college in thanking President Yu for participating in this seminar.” Song Minzhi’s gaze held no other emotion; it was simple gratitude. “I heard that President Yu usually doesn’t accept such invitations. This time, was it because…”
Yu Kunian’s gaze landed on her stern, unsmiling face. Suddenly, her brows arched, and her voice carried a light smile as she said, “Because of Teacher Song, that’s why I came.”
This answer was quite unexpected. Throughout the entire invitation process, Song Minzhi had never made an appearance. She didn’t know what Yu Kunian’s arrival had to do with her.
However, Yu Kunian didn’t intend to explain, as if intentionally leaving her in suspense. Song Minzhi wanted to press for more, but she was interrupted by Yu Kunian pulling out and handing over her phone. “Teacher Song, I wonder if I can get your phone number this time?”
Song Minzhi had seen many people who were persistent about wanting her number, and without exception, she would politely refuse. She never gave her contact information to anyone who wasn’t a colleague or a close friend. But this time, Song Minzhi quickly took the phone. She gave Yu Kunian her private number.
Yu Kunian dialed immediately. Watching Song Minzhi’s phone ring, she added, “That’s my number.”
“President Yu… will you have something to discuss with me later?” Song Minzhi realized belatedly that she had given it up too easily and tried to cover for herself.
Yu Kunian nodded. “I have many things I need to talk to Teacher Song about. If Teacher Song doesn’t mind, I’d like to chat more with you—unrelated to my company, and unrelated to your college.”
Song Minzhi thought about it and felt that if those two things were removed, they didn’t seem to have much to talk about. But she didn’t say it aloud. She simply followed her words with a nod, then looked toward the lecture that had already started. “President Yu, I have other arrangements. Please excuse me.”
Yu Kunian hadn’t expected Song Minzhi to stay in the lounge with her for long, so she pulled open the door to let Song Minzhi go first. “It just so happens I should return to my seat as well.”
Director Qin had specifically arranged a seat for her; it wouldn’t be right for her to be absent.
If the debate videos of Song Minzhi seen online hadn’t fully delivered a sense of amazement, then being at the scene today made one feel that this Song Minzhi was not the usual Song Minzhi.
The rumored Teacher Song seemed different from the speaker now on stage, who was performing with ease and delivering a lengthy, eloquent discourse.
Yu Kunian felt that Song Minzhi must truly love her career. As an Omega who had once been suppressed in another city, she had finally found a life that suited her perfectly in Lihua City and had secured a place for herself.
To be honest, Yu Kunian admired Song Minzhi. In previous years, social public opinion had been very polarized. The issue of Alpha and Omega coexistence had been debated countless times. The various decisions within the committee did not dare to be executed lightly. It could be said that the relevant policies were a single-log bridge without any security, and even the government had hesitated for a long time.
But Song Minzhi had dared to accept the invitation from Lihua University back then, even when the policies hadn’t completely solidified. She had managed the college from its scattered beginnings with only a few people until now, where the student population of the college accounted for about thirty percent of the entire Lihua University, making her the most famous professor at the university.
The name “Song Minzhi” was the fundamental attraction for everything.
It was the first time Yu Kunian had admired someone so much. Her gaze followed Song Minzhi’s figure on stage; for a moment, it was hard to accurately describe the feeling she had now.
That Omega was shining brilliantly, and the Alpha wanted her to be her only starlight.
Beside her, Director Qin said proudly, “Back then, I was the one who recommended Teacher Song to the school. Now, she really hasn’t let me down. Teacher Song is truly excellent, wouldn’t you say, President Yu?”
A smile slowly spread in the depths of Yu Kunian’s eyes. She nodded slightly and said, “Of course.”
“Let’s have dinner together tonight,” Director Qin suggested on a whim. “I should properly introduce you and Teacher Song to each other.”
Yu Kunian was more than happy to oblige. “To be friends with Teacher Song is a rare and good thing.”
Director Qin hadn’t expected Yu Kunian to hold Song Minzhi in such high regard. She felt deeply honored. She had thought Yu Kunian would be as indifferent as the rumors suggested, but at least from these two meetings, Yu Kunian was very easy-going.
Especially when facing Song Minzhi.
When it was Yu Kunian’s turn to take the stage, Song Minzhi waited at the bottom of the stairs by the side of the stage, holding Yu Kunian’s manuscript in her hand. A teacher involved in the planning saw her and subconsciously called out, “Teacher Song, aren’t you going on stage in the second half? Why aren’t you waiting in the green room?”
Song Minzhi turned her head and said softly, “I’ll just wait here; it won’t be long.”
The planning teacher didn’t ask further and turned to leave. Song Minzhi’s expression remained unchanged as she looked back at Yu Kunian. Her gaze was unusually intense, but no one noticed.
On stage, Yu Kunian’s speech hits its stride. Song Minzhi also let out a sigh of relief, lowering her eyes to scan the manuscript in her hand. On it where words Yu Kunian had casually written on the way there.
Song Minzhi’s fingertips brushed over the places where the fountain pen ink had landed. The few short words weren’t written very seriously; they were scribbled yet still remained orderly. Turning the page, at the end of the manuscript, perhaps out of playfulness, Yu Kunian had signed her name on a blank line.
It wasn’t a cursive signature like usual, but “Yu Kunian” written stroke by stroke, square and upright.
Song Minzhi didn’t know why she had lost herself in thought. As her thumb rubbed against the edge of the paper, her heart suddenly began to trace the characters.
Yu Kunian probably wouldn’t look at this manuscript again, so Song Minzhi folded it up and put it into her coat pocket. If Yu Kunian asked, she would say it had already been disposed of.
In any case, no one would suspect her of lying. Of course, she rarely lied.
By the time she went on stage for the second half of the segment, Song Minzhi had already adjusted her expression. Taking the microphone handed over by Yu Kunian, she and Yu Kunian began the prepared Q&A back and forth.
There were many questions regarding Yu Kunian’s company business, and fortunately, Yu Kunian answered them all smoothly. But when Song Minzhi asked why Yu Kunian thought of creating her current products, Yu Kunian fell silent for a moment.
Yu Kunian seemed to be deep in thought, but her answer didn’t seem to have any particularly special meaning.
“For me, it was a coincidence. I actually had a similar idea during high school, but it never took shape, so it was set aside. However, upon graduation, I happened to encounter the release of the new policy, which gave me an inspiration.”
After speaking, Yu Kunian looked at Song Minzhi, waiting for the next question. Unexpectedly, Song Minzhi was dazed out. When she snapped back, she asked subconsciously: “High school?”
Yu Kunian was surprised by Song Minzhi’s inquiry. She tilted her head slightly and raised her eyebrow, then immediately said:
“Yes. Because for a period during high school, I wasn’t in Lihua City, but in a small town. That place was very small, mostly populated by Omegas, and Alphas usually went out of the city to study, so there were no specialized schools separating Alphas and Omegas. At that time, I encountered many difficult situations caused by pheromones, and there were Omegas in the school who had been affected by my pheromones.”
Song Minzhi realized her lapse in decorum. After Yu Kunian’s explanation, she had no more questions and continued according to the original arrangement. Yu Kunian, on the other hand, was a bit curious, wondering why her high school had piqued Song Minzhi’s interest.
However, she didn’t have a chance to ask for the time being, so she put it aside and focused on finishing the lecture process. Fortunately, nothing unexpected happened, and Yu Kunian didn’t forget her lines; it could be called perfect.
Her part was almost the finale. Finally, Song Minzhi just needed to give the closing remarks, and the event would be completely over. After leaving the stage, Yu Kunian didn’t return to her seat but, like Song Minzhi had done earlier, stood at the bottom of the stairs waiting.
Hearing Song Minzhi say goodbye to the students, Director Qin finally found her after wandering around. “President Yu, I’ve booked a restaurant and sent a message to Teacher Song. Let’s go wait for Teacher Song outside the venue.”
Seeing that there were other teachers following behind Director Qin, Yu Kunian realized there would be other teachers at the dinner. She raised her hand and pointed in Song Minzhi’s direction. “I’ll wait for Teacher Song; you guys go ahead, Director. I brought a car; I’ll go with Teacher Song.”
Director Qin readily accepted. While sending the address to her, she waved at Song Minzhi.
The crowd in the venue dispersed quickly. The students were gone, and most of the planning teachers had left as well. It was only when the lecture hall was so empty that only the two of them remained that Yu Kunian walked up again and stopped beside Song Minzhi.
